He’s gotten every woman he wants—except her. She refuses to be distracted by the sexy firefighter assigned to her crew. But when danger comes calling, how long can she resist the heat?
When his inner demons get to be too much, Nevada firefighter Desmond “Dez” Andrews drowns out his tragic past with alcohol and one-night-stands. Yes, he was speeding in his red Tesla convertible, but the drugs the cops found weren’t his. That doesn’t stop him from being suspended from work until he completes community service at Stillwater National Refuge. He just has to get through four weeks in the backcountry with a crew of young adults and the stunning, strawberry-blonde ecologist leading them—a woman who seems completely immune to the charm, hard body, and Hispanic good looks that usually get him any woman he wants.
Her fantasy in the flesh…
Park Service employee Hazel Gerard can’t believe she’s been assigned to work with Mr. April from her Nevada Firefighter calendar. The same man who’s been staring at her from her refrigerator for three months. There's no denying the heat between them, but she's his temporary boss. Plus, he's keeping secrets from her; he’s utterly terrified of helicopters and has more money than a firefighter should. As they grow closer, how long can she resist the fire?
Can’t resist the heat...
Dez has always been a playboy. If he doesn’t let anyone close, he can’t lose them. But it's the dry season and more than one kind of spark ignites into flames, threatening their lives and their slow-burn romance. Can Hazel help Dez sweep away the ashes of his past and embrace true love?
Tracey Kelly writes emotionally rich, true-to-life romance where love leads to healing, purpose, and second chances.
With over 25 contemporary and inspirational novels to her name, she’s known for creating flawed but relatable characters who face real-world struggles—often with a dose of medical drama (a nod to her background as an Army combat medic and civilian EMT) or a biker twist, drawn from two decades managing her family’s motorcycle business (and riding since she was 16!).
She works in marketing and lives in small-town Minnesota on a three-acre patch of paradise with her incredibly understanding hubby, a bossy cat, and the occasional visit from her two grown children—who’ve long since come to terms with having a motorcycle-riding, romance-writing mom.
When she’s not writing, you’ll find her on her motorcycle, at the lake with family, skiing down a slope, or cheering on a soccer match. And if the day ends with a good book, all the better.
This is an amazing story with a beautiful message of love, pain, longing and how to overcome tragedy. Desmond Andrew, known as Dez to all his friends/family is a firefighter who suffers greatly each anniversary crippling him to the point that he turns to drugs and alcohol to drown the pain. Dez is ordered to do community hours at Stillwater Wildlife Refuge center, for his mistakes what he doesn't realize is that his life will be forever altered dramatically. Hazel Gerard is an ecologist that works for the park services who has to lead a team into the back country, she never expected to see Mr. April of the Nevada Firefighters calendar at her office, nor did she expect to have him tag along for four weeks of hard work in the backcountry. Hazel and Dez have a shaky start since she seem immune to Dez dazzling charm and irresistible good Hispanic looks, but walls are meant to fall and feelings are hard to ignore. I love the banter between Hazel and Dez and how close Dez is with all his firefighter friends. This is a cute story full friendships, love and collaboration. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving ARC
The Hidden Gems ARC program introduced me to this author and series, so when Dez’s story was offered I immediately requested the ARC. I have read most of the books in this series, but you could enjoy the books as standalones. As with most series, you would just enjoy it more if you read the other books and understood the characters’ backstory. This book focuses on Dez, who in prior books is portrayed as a complete playboy, and this story gives us a view into where that comes from. At the start of this book, Dez is pulled over and then needs to do community service with the Park Service to make up for his indiscretions. His only goal is to complete his service so he can get back to his job. There he meets Hazel, who mainly knows him as Mr. April from the firefighter calendar on her fridge. As they work together to get this group through the program in the wilderness, they build a relationship beyond just their original attraction to an understanding of who each other is and that they might have a future together.
He’s a playboy firefighter, trying to keep the demons from a tragedy in his past at bay. One slip up, and everything takes a turn he doesn’t expect. She’s a no-nonsense Park Service employee, and the last person she expects to encounter is her calendar crush. Still she only has to put up with him for a few weeks.
I liked how the author portrayed these two. The learning that they are not quite what they show to the world. Then Desmond overcoming his fears to ensure his ladies safety. First book I’ve read in this series, and will be looking to read the previous ones.
I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This latest addition to the series belongs to firefighter Dez/Desmond Andrews and Staff Ecologist, Hazel Stamos. Dez has been using women and drugs to dull the pain of a devastating loss. When it went too far, he is given community service at the National Wildfire Refuge. At the last minute Hazel is assigned to lead a group from Student Conservation Association into Chaco Canyon with Dez under her direction. As the story develops, feelings do as well. But will the past, and danger on the canyon keep them apart? A good addition to the series.
Wow the prologue had my mind and emotions twisted. I know firemen are people too but still. Loved getting to see the serious side of Dez. The intimate scenes were explicit and will make some readers happy. The emotional scences, the growth, they make me happy.
I enjoyed the story of Dez and Hazel. The plot was good. I loved the characters. It was just missing the wow factor that the other books in this series had. I loved the interactions Dez had with Marshall. Fez’s back story was heartbreaking especially when he was telling his story to Hazel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
