Help! I've been abducted by a horned alien in a kilt! One second I'm working three jobs trying to get by in Los Angeles, the next I'm tied up in a dark cave with a terrifying purple brute. Then his horns start changing color, and he's getting a little too frisky with his blades. I plan to run from him and find my way back to Earth, but is it so wrong if I hope he catches me? — The fragile female doesn't belong on this planet. The dangers are too great. She will be hunted and bred if she stays. My selfish desire to claim her as mine will only lead to her death. But the wee lass has taken my heart captive, and she may be the only one to set me free. This is a full-length standalone sci-fi romance featuring a morally gray alien Highlander and his feisty human mate. No cheating, no cliffies, and guaranteed happily ever after.
Growing up as a latch-key kid, Lyra Stark always felt lonely as a child. She dreamed of the day Han Solo would arrive and sweep her away into space. She spent several years in the science field before realizing the best way to make it happen was to write it. Now, she flies the skies each night with sexy aliens in her steamy sci-fi romance books. She is currently living out her happily ever after in California with her real-world hero and their three Ewoks.
i would give this 1 star but i only read %17 and don't feel like being mean today
it's a typical she gets abducted, he saves and keeps her story. BUT hero is addicted to some sort of drug and he abducted her in exchange of drugs 🤨 i don't know you but he's not my ideal hero. also her abusive ex was a drug addict so...🤷🏼♀️
also where is the trigger warning???? the self harm was so unexpected and i only read a couple of chapters. is this a dark romance????😤 i'm leaving those parts below as spoiler
Okay so I really enjoyed this series opener about flawed alien heros not normally seen as the heros. These warriors come with horns, tails, fangs they like to use to bite with, venom with unusual properties, and special alien equipment down below including knots...oh my!! Turn up the AC because this was spicy and hot as hell, but also had a great story to go along with it. Our hero Vonne got his chance at redemption as he found how healing love and acceptance can be.
Also these aliens wear kilts and talk in Scottish brogue. Y'all it's like alien outlander up in here!! Five stars for all the sexy "Aye, Lassie"s.
I've already devoured book one and two so I can say that Tornoc's story next is just as good watching that charming badboy get snared. ,
In the first few chapters I didn't know if I'd like this book, but I did end up really enjoying it. I liked the Hero, I didn't know where the addiction priece was going but it ended up a good character development.
Having a POC main character was a nice change and I didn't notice any of the stereotyping or fetishing you see sometimes in books with a Black heroine.
The song lyrics got a bit weird, I'm not even sure if copywrite laws allow for lyrics in books especially when some weren't credited. I think having her use her own songs and writing unique lyrics would have been more meaningful anyways and avoided any potential cease and desist letters 😬.
I didn't think I'd like the whole Outlander aliens theme as I'm not a big fan fic pop culture person but this wasn't overdone.
Smexxy times were hot! I kinda giggled at what the visual would have been for someone using their horns that way (gives a new meaning to headbanging...), but overall well written and not overused.
For a first book I think it was really promising and I'm looking forward to more!
I truly enjoyed this, it was a new twist on the alien romance. I've been disappointed for with black women lead fantasy for a long time but this was a pleasant surprise. I know the reason Yasmine was initially abducted but I'm thankful there wasn't a lot of r*pey stuff. It's one of the reasons I'm weary of black women authors that write fantasy, they seem fixated on making that a central part of the heroine's journey. I'm happy this mostly steered clear of it. We can appreciate the danger the woman is in without making every interaction about that. Vonne was such a departure from the typical alien king or prince. He had depth which was refreshing. I was also happy that although Yasmine life has been hard, she was completely self loathing. It's nice to read a black heroine whose whole personality isn't downtrodden or over the top sassy. She felt real because she was multidimensional & not a caricature.
This was a long and fulfilled story. The author did a great job of making this a fully rounded story. Vonne is a male in desperate need of loving. He has known nothing but hardship and pain. Yazmin is also in need of a person she can trust to love and be there. She has her mother but you need more. Their path is very bumpy. They have to overcome the language barrier also with cultural barriers. To wake up on an alien planet with the physical and emotional difficulties that Yazmin has added to those difficulties. Together they can find what they both need and help to save their home in the process.
Oh man, what CAN'T I say about this one? It's unique, the world building is amazing, and well thought out. The MMC goes from Zero to Hero, which I absolutely adored. Did I mention the steaminess of everything! I blushed so many times, I think I even squealed a little! The details are AH-MAZ-ING! Especially how there's a mixture of Highlander in the alien culture. Honestly, if I ever had to have a translator I want this kind!
A new to me author and I’ll definitely be reading more.
This was both funny and sweet at times, and extremely sad in parts especially our shadow, his self hatred and need for self punishment because he thought he deserved it really pulled at my heart , I love how Yasmin. Made him see how worthy he was of love .
Initially, I disliked and failed to trust Vonne; after all he had so many deficits. However, I soon loved and be and excited about their budding relationship. I am looking forward to more chapters about their marriage and family.
I really enjoyed this book, it was well written and an overall great story. I love me a big alien with big horns and even bigger….. lol I’ll let you find that out for yourself. This is definitely worth a read I would highly recommend.

I had high hopes going into this book and I can’t say that I was COMPLETELY disappointed. Would I re-read? No. Am I going to read the second book? Also no. The characters were well written but I found myself… bored? I liked their romantic timeline and everything but I did find some of the sex scenes to be cringe. Ex: pg 117 “my inner horn dog was on display” pg 124 “ he looked so hot fucking the air like a dog in heat” (ew) pg 213 describing sex as “It’s like so so good.” This actually irritated me the most. Every sex scene she’s like ohmigod (literally spelled like that) it so soo good. Moving on. Another thing I hate is when authors use their own language for every. Single. Thing. Like yes, I get they’re on an alien planet but I’m not going to keep going back and forth to your dictionary only to find out that smelet means lava. (Yes, actually.) I was in the mood to read an alien sci-fi romance and this definitely filled the quota, but I felt it got too complicated at times with the fake alien language and even the plot at times. I felt like there was a problem— it got solved; only for there to be another problem and the book kept going on and on. There were many times where I checked to see how much of the book was left because I felt it had been going on forever at that point. At 88% I had to put it the book down in fear of writing an unfair review and picked it up a couple days later and finished the rest.

The plot was good; world building is at a good start & has a lot of potential; I even liked some of the serious themes that were attempted... However, the execution of the entire story needs a LOT of work. I was following along just fine for the most part - some of the dialogue was a work-in-progress but considering the culture difference, it worked fine - but there were a few too many times where the reactions and responses did not match up to the seriousness of the situation and that drew me out of the story :-(
Yazmin mentioned how she felt some of her responses were a bit childish - a few were actually justified given what was happening to her - but it was around the halfway point and 60% where downright yes, the dialogue in general was childish/teen talk. And the quick adaptation for both Yazmin and Vonne to each other's slang was odd (yes, they had translator gadgets but that doesn't mean they'll completely adjust to it and forego what's normal for them).
This has good potential but still needs some TLC before it's considered a great story. Don't know if I'll continue the series.
This story started out rather dark. Almost too dark for my liking. Even the alien world was ash and poisoned. Since I am very sensitive to the world being created by an author in my mind, I almost put the book down and stopped. After deciding to continue to reach my book total, I reached a half way mark and not only did the landscape change, but so did the romance become so much more satisfying. I am glad I continued to the HEA! This book had shadings of BDSM handled well by a feisty heroine. If Alfa type males in romance bother you, this book is not for you. If you like a heroine with vast quantities of insight, then you will like this read.
This is book one in the horned warrior series. The warrior is Shadow aka Vonne who has been mistreated and abused his entire life. He is not healthy and being used by a supposed friend. This friend asked Shadow to steal a blue bag. Having no choice, Shadow went to steal this bag only to find a human female inside named Yazmin. This triggers something fierce inside him and he seems himself as the protector of Yasmin. This was a good read and I am glad that the language barrier was resolved sooner rather than later. Read On!
Really dragged getting through this. Liked the character and the actual plot but lagged in a lot of places. I’m still not really sure what color the guy was or what the color changing horns and skin color meant. They dropped big bombs like a character hiding that they’re human and then characters being able to talk telepathically without giving it much attention. The main characters would also be super dramatic and then immediately change their minds/calm down, it was exhausting

This story was fine. Just sort of lackluster. The horned alien didn’t read as attractive and there wasn’t much believable chemistry. I found it annoying that there was a Scottish aspect to the aliens. It didn’t seem realistic. Also the way they traveled to earth was ridiculous and seemed just thrown in for no reason. I just got bored with the whole thing and started skimming toward the end. I wanted to like this series but this one is not for me.
A captivating intense hot alien romance. Interesting storyline keeps you turning the pages with great world building, sizzling spice, complex characters, emotion, doubts, violence, protectiveness and love.

This was a DNF. It started off weird. Lots of alien words but no idea of what anything looked like or where things were taking place. And the alien is a drug addict who'll do anything for his next hit, even stuff a woman in a bag. I'm supposed to love this guy? No way.
This read is okay. It’s not awful and the spice if fairly okay. I think overall it’s a balanced romance with a decent enough plot to keep a reader engaged but not necessarily on it my top monster books.
A high praise to Lyra Stark in this amazing book ,well written, with a captivating storyline ,she created muitifaceted and often complex characters and detailed settings who felt real and kept me engrossed in the story. This is a author to follow!
