Read this book in two days! If you enjoy a good crime book filled with political dirt, romance, friendship, loss from death, mental health, murder & suspense you should read this book. Can't wait for the second book to come out. Since I'm from Indiana I enjoy the setting of Indianapolis and all places familiar. Two thumbs up Rhonda Parker Taylor
Rhonda Parker Taylor's Crossroads wasn't exactly what I expected, but that's not always a bad thing. Sometimes, it's good to be surprised, which was the case with this book. It's not a jump-right-into-the-deep-end type of suspense thriller. Instead, it builds slowly, so I suppose you could call it a slow-burn suspense story. Normally, that slow start would be a drawback for me, but the author shapes her characters in a way that makes them totally relatable. Even when she was just going about her workday, Paris is a character I can understand. So much so that well before there's any real suspense, I was curious enough about what would happen with Paris to keep me turning the pages. It was the same with the rest of the characters. I liked some and disliked others, but they were all very well done - the type of characters you don't forget. The book is well written, and the story is entertaining. This is my first time reading this author's work, but she's now on my radar. I enjoyed the read, and I'd recommend it.
This book is extraordinary. Just when I thought there was nothing else left to explore that would really and truly interest me, along comes an author with a new perspective of things and offers me this incredible read with scenes and places depicted in an exquisite way. Throughout the book, author Parker Taylor draws on his vast experience as a writer, he crafted an immersive narrative and allows us to enjoy a fantastic women’s detective fiction. He did a fabulous job of making the reader feel connected to the characters. They had so much personality, and the sarcastic banter between many of them is pure genius. I have enjoyed it a lot.
Crossroads is a very interesting and well developed thriller. As soon as I started reading it, I felt trapped by the plot and the particular way of being of the main protagonist of this story. It is a story full of mysteries and tragedies that mixes the active and positive life of Paris with the darkness and dangers it faces. I really enjoyed the novel; it is an easy and light read, and the story develops in a very original way. I found the characters built very professionally and meticulously and the scenes built by its writer made me fall into the story quickly. I recommend it for those who choose to read suspenseful stories.
It's not often that we see such meticulous treatment of a plot that is a thriller at the foundation, but is built with threads of philosophical ruminations and self-realization elements. I absolutely loved how Taylor unhurriedly has woven in the different genres, and how brilliantly she has designed the characters. Her background as a researcher is evident in the care she takes to dwell on the back-stories and the characterization, to ensure that the reader feels the right level of empathy at each turn. Overall, this was a fabulous read, and I am thankful to Taylor, the publishers MindStir Media, and Cami of Reading Addiction BT for gifting me with a copy of this book.
This is a great suspense novel! "Crossroads", by Rhonda Parker Taylor, introduces us readers into the tumultuous life of Paris Pennington, a workaholic whose world unravels as she struggles with a haunting murder case.
I believe the author has written a gripping narrative that explores a variety of themes ranging from loyalty and firm determination to envy and the inexorable hand of fate. The author's narrative captivated me through the whole story, including twist and turns that I could not see coming. I highly recommend reading it!
A great read. I enjoyed the suspense and even though I figured out The Who, I didn’t figure out the why. There is many twists and turns in this book, sometimes I got a little confused and had to re-read some of it to get a better understanding of where it was going.
I was able to meet the author at my local grocery store and pick up a signed copy and I’m so glad I did. I’m looking forward to reading more of her work.
I enjoyed this book. It was a pretty quick read, but you need to pay attention or you miss the clues. I love a story that makes you pay attention in the front end and can’t read fast enough in the back end. Paris is a character you find yourself cheering for throughout. Great twists and a wonderful weave of a story.
I met this author at my local Barnes and Noble where she was signing books. I'm glad I gave the book by this local, first time author a chance.
It was a fairly quick read. I was surprised I guessed the ending surprised fairly early into the read. There are several POVs, which I found confusing and many of the characters personalities annoyed me, but I wanted to see how it ended.
I'm sorry, but was disappointed in this book. I found it very difficult to follow and understand the characters and figure out what the theme of the book was-a love story, a murder mystery-supposedly both, but not developed so was understandable or relatable. Was hoping would be better because loved that it took place in the Indianapolis area that am very familiar with.
Kept me intrigued the whole way through. Was hard to concentrate at the beginning & learn this writers writing style but once I caught on I liked it. I met the writer of this book as well a few month ago in a B&N and she signed my copy. I can't wait to read the next book and re-read this one now that I've caught onto her writing style and story lines.
Intriguing plot, engaging characters. I hated to put this book down! I know it's a good book when I keep trying to find time to pick a book back up to read "just one more chapter." I'm looking forward to book number two!
It was a little hard for me to get through this book. I guess it just wasn't my type. The storyline was too scattered for me. I know other people loved it though.
