This is a warm, refreshing novel which casts a perceptive eye on friendship and loyalty. What do you do if your best friend is about to marry the wrong girl? Buy the matching bathrobes and keep your mouth shut? Or kidnap the groom on his stag night and hold him in a remote cottage in the Welsh borders until the wedding day has safely passed? Hal's friends know what they want to do, but they haven't reckoned on being overheard by Lily - who has already witnessed the devastation of her sister's wedding day, and is going to do anything she can to save this one - and Kirsty, Lily's friend, initially more interested in pulling the groom, but swift to take up the challenge. Set in the wonderful countryside around the border town of Welshpool, "Calling on Lily" is a warm and winning novel about kidnap, deception, cattle prods and hoof picks, about falling in love and about how far you should go for a friend.
ohhhhhhh love it, love it, love it!! I would like to have a Simon...or maybe even a Josh! Wonderfully written nothing too over the top, beautiful English scenery and lovely characters.
This book was sweet but not what I'd anticipated. Based on the blurb, I imagined this book would be about the story of saving the person from their marriage. Instead, this happened within the first few chapters. At times, the book flitted around to different characters and it felt like it didn't flow. Also, the ending felt abrupt.
With that being said, i liked the writing style and did enjoy the read.
Covid read. Easy read but unmemorable. Lily's sister jilted at alter so lily moves in with her. A group of lads come on a stag do , planning to stop the groom from marrying. Predictable.
