In Quartet, Cecily, Reggie and Wilfred are in a home for retired opera singers. This year's plans to celebrate Verdi's birthday with a concert are not going to plan. In Equally Divided, two grown-up sisters must confront their childhood rivalry.
Sir Ronald Harwood, CBE, FRSL (born Ronald Horwitz; 9 November 1934) was an author, playwright and screenwriter. He was most noted for his plays for the British stage as well as the screenplays for The Dresser (for which he was nominated for an Oscar) and The Pianist, for which he won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007).
Both plays were decent. Both had their merits. Both had their faults. I would go to see either of them on stage, but would not choose to perform or produce them.
Of the two, I liked Equally Divided more than Quartet.
