Are you tired of evaluating your life and concluding that things aren’t working out as you’d hoped?
Every year, you plan to spend more time with friends and family, improve your spiritual health, or start working on your hobbies again. But because society has conditioned us to believe that the more we have, the happier we will be, we end up on the hamster wheel of life chasing the superficial—and feeling empty in the process.
So what is the secret to true and everlasting happiness? Does it even exist, or are we chasing a pipe dream, doomed to sadness, disappointment, and failure?
Although the media keeps pushing the ideology that we can buy happiness, statistics prove that this is not the case. Studies suggest that CEOs suffer from depression at a significantly higher rate than the general public. Additionally, rich kids are more anxious and depressed than children from middle- and lower-income households. Why? Because success doesn’t guarantee happiness—finding joy in life’s simple pleasures does.

Book Review- 2/27/2023 ________________________________________
Hygge, New and Expanded: Discovering The Danish Art Of Happiness is an extension to the original book: Hygge: Discovering The Danish Art Of Happiness – How To Live Cozily And Enjoy Life’s Simple Pleasures • Hygge: Discovering The Danish Art Of Happiness – How To Live Cozily And Enjoy Life’s Simple Pleasures
________________________________________ I feel the book cover is eye-catching whether the reader is familiar or isn’t familiar with the concept of Hygge the cover choice is well chosen to appeal to or entice the reader to want to pick it up and find out what the book is about.
All the reader needs to do is read the first paragraph of the Introduction to the book to be hooked, that is if the reader is at a point in life where they are tired of feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and run down all the time. Or are a place where you can just feel it is time to make some serious transformation in life but do not know how or where to begin.
Olivia Telford is the author of several successful self-help books that have inspired and helped many people make positive changes in their lives. In this book, she has written each chapter within a specific topic or area aimed to help the reader with that transition. She provides the reader with the meaning of what Hygge is and what it is not so that you can decide if this is the path you feel is best suited for your desired outcome.
I like the setup of the book and that it can be used as a guide rather than reading chapter to chapter it is helpful to go to the chapter you are seeking guidance with.
The Hygge concept is similar to the Buddhist way of living. This is also a lifestyle where positive transformation begins with healing the mind and developing a positive mindset. Olivia also expresses that change is not easy and to be successful during any transformation or way of living it will take hard work, dedication, and discipline. She shares with the reader the Hygge way of living because she has experienced it and has tremendously transformed her life for the better. She believes that her book and the newly expanded version are the keys to your goals and can help the reader take the first step toward getting started on the road to transformation (Telford, 2022).
The book does need to be edited. I find when I read a book that is not properly edited or grammatical errors are present it turns me off and makes reading the book difficult, no matter how good it may be.
I give the book a 5-star rating based on the excellence and true value of the Hygge lifestyle, the author has done her research and has experienced this Danish way of living to know that it does work, can help, and is worth reading about.
I hope this review is helpful and that you find the book to be of value to you. Nora S. Lore
Easy to read and quick to digest, the book provides a guide of Hygge in addition to many universal options to a healthy and "joy full" life. The 1st third of the book was a thorough course on all things Danish and why less is more: less media, less stuff, less isolation, more comfortable houses (more rugs!), more social gatherings, but into the 2nd third of the book the focus became broad. It brought in ideas from many sources to offer up nearly infinite options. Claiming that every idea fits into Hygge is to diminish the "Danish Art". The final third is mostly diet and recipe options which was also less unique. I enjoyed reading the book and feel it did a solid job of connecting the concepts of minimalism and hygge into a more complete way of life. I'm glad to have it in my library and I'll happily return to reference and reread the parts that are exclusively Hygge!
Like a lot of people I had heard about this idea of Hygge or the Danish art of happiness and was interested in reading this book. I don’t really think the Danes have the magical secret to happiness and in reading this book I found a lot of ideas that I have come across before in other books. That said, there are still a lot of good things that Olivia Telford suggests that could make your life better and easier if you follow them. Well set out in different chapters with a variety of types of help this book even has recipes to try. I think for most people (Danes probably included) this book is going to be a pick and choose sort of thing to find out what works best for you.

I’ve always had an interest in Hygge, and enjoy reading more about it. I love the simplicity of it all, and the meaning behind all it represents, or seeks to. Modifying the practices to a place where we don’t have cold weather can be a little tricky, and requires you to get creative and think outside of the box. There are definitely new ideas that I’m going to try. While I appreciate the yoga references and instructions that went with it, I found it difficult. I think pictures of the poses might have helped. But I will keep on trying. I also liked some of the journalling ideas. There were so many to choose from! And I can’t wait to try out some new recipes!

I really enjoyed this book! There are so many things mentioned that I want to start incorporating into my life. I needed a new direction and I needed inspiration to make the changes that I am aware that I need to make to improve my life. This book gave me good examples of morning and evening rituals, new recipes, journaling topics and even yoga poses including their benefits to the mind and body. I plan to reread this book whenever I am needing inspiration and I will use it as a guide to help improve my daily life. A must read in my opinion.

Really lovely book filled with delicious recipes and useful tips for living a Hygge life. Practical suggestions allow you to incorporate suggestions in to your daily life and home. I loved the journal prompts at the end and the chapter on hobbies - definitely some interesting suggestions to try! Olivia writes in a really easy way to read and her description of the Danish way of life had me longing to pack a bag for Copenhagen. If you want a good guide to Hygge with practical tips and advice, this is the book for you.
I had not heard of hygge before and I was interested to learn more about Danish culture. This book is easy to read and gives you some insight into how to live a more simple, organized life. It is important to spend our time living in the moment and appreciating the small joys, such as nature, that surround us on a daily basis.

Hygge is personal. That's what I learned from this book. And that makes sense -- a lot of it. It's a practical, quick guide to implementing the principles of this practice in your life, leading to greater peace, happiness and gratitude through increasing the simplicity and comfort of your environment. I did feel some of the text was a bit repetitive, but that's ok, it was short enough to skim through.

This is a good book as a starting point for understanding Hygge and some Danish culture. I really liked the food references and recipes, as well as the cultural differences and perspectives for families. Nice to offer a connection to a Hygge community group on Facebook.

I enjoyed this book. I have been implementing some of these practices into our daily life and noticed a difference. The book covers all aspects of life, and the chapters are clear and well-defined. I would have loved more lists, illustrations, or photos to break up the textbook's feeling. But a very good book.

Repetitive lists in each chapter. The last 20-25% of the book is all recipes. There is nothing in this book that can't be learned from a quick Google search and skimming some random articles about hygge. One star.
This is a great book and kind of a wake up call for us Americans, who live a very stressful, busy life. I have some good pointers now to try and leave this lifestyle. Super excited to start a journey.
