John and his beautiful companions in the Heaven’s Shield Guild have returned from their overseas voyage victorious. But home isn’t like they left it–dungeons have started to disappear, corrupted by some unknown force.
Unknown to everyone but John, that is. Invaders from a dying world are coming. And if they succeed, it marks the beginning of the end for John’s world.
To survive the ultimate challenge, the Heaven’s Shied Guild must build their power as fast as they can. Can they win their race against time … this time? Or will it all come down to the choices of The Last Necromancer?
The Last Necromancer is a LitRPG fantasy trilogy that contains game-like action, progressive stats, adventuring guilds, and slow burn harems. It’s perfect for fans of Atlas Kane and David Burke.
We have a necromancer that is basically a hexer who specializes in cursing himself? Seriously? There are far better options to call his class. Also, his class always felt just out of reach of being explained or understood.
There was supposed to be some great shift at level 25. It never happens. Then there's this wierd reference to needing 2 of a class in order to advance it. That's never explained or ever even made sense. There was quite a bit of power creep. He cheated and got everyone in his party major levels just shy of 25. 'It'll take weeks for anyone else to break past it.' Then everyone is randomly within spitting distance of level 25. Evidently his group is just lazy and slow.
The state of the resistance seems a little sad but whatever. What saved the story for me was the ending. The last conflict felt forced and contrived but at least the ending felt complete and left you feeling good. Not all stories can say that. Even better written ones. I highly value it.
TLDR: A decent enough distraction on KU. Not worth investing yourself too deeply in the numbers or classes. They works well enough as vague background context. His future hindsight was ok. It sometimes felt like it was made on the spot rather than feeling like something he always knew bit it wasn't that bad. Especially from an enjoyment perspective. Worth a read if you are able to enjoy flawed japanese web novels.
As the conclusion comes around to this series, I'd say well done overall. While not the best thing I've read all year, I have no significant complaints, so they rate their 5 stars. Some may say the MC breezed through stuff in an OP way, but he had a decade of hard graft that gave him the knowledge required for his "do-over".
Competent MC, and though the harem aspect seemed a bit much, at least it made sense situationally. These books did have a mix of fade-to-black and graphic sex scenes, and the latter were not drawn out like so many in this genre can be. If the book idea interests you I can recommend these at the very least as well written.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. This book is definitely worth checking out.
