From the producers of The One, InstaLove is taking reality TV dating shows to the next level. Make sure you don’t miss this sizzling new series!
It’s been three years since being betrayed by my best friend and my boyfriend. And while I was over them, I was still triggered by the pain they’d caused.
I was leery of people. I found it hard to trust and open up. Meaningless flings filled the void and quelled any loneliness. But what I truly wanted was love.
Wine drunk and fresh off the heels of a bad first date, I applied to be a part of the relationship social experiment and hit TV show InstaLove.
It wasn’t until I was accepted to be part of the show that it hit me: I’m engaged to a man I’ve never met.
This was a such a great read! I didn't want the story to end. As a medium fan of reality dating and marriage shows, the “behind the scenes” aspects of the novel was enlightening. As the viewer, I never thought about the staging, the emotional strain, or how the taping impacts the staff and crew. I enjoyed learning about it as the love story played out.
This was such a fun premise where the hero and heroine meet when they get engaged for a dating show. The romance is slow as they become friends first, and they just live together and do day to day things. I would have loved more to happen in the romance to keep the plot going that them just living together and doing some couple challenges. But the ending was so cute and I loved how much they opened up to each other as their bond grew stronger!
This story was very unique! I loved the chemistry created between Zion & Mariah. Let me not forget to mention, the spice & fire that was coming up off the pages!! Baybeeeehhh, I felt that! Those scenes alone made the reality TV dating show angle more interesting to read about 😂.!
Grandma Pearl was my girl for real! To find out how her friend Lottie tied into the story was heartwarming!
I feel like this story felt unfinished! Am I the only one that would have appreciated getting Zion’s perspective, feelings, etc. real time from him? It’s like Mariah was on this journey alone, because we got everything from her point of view. That to me, is the best part of reading a romance book, getting things from both sides & hearing the female & male thoughts from them! To get Zion’s thoughts on the pivotal moments would have made soooo much difference, & would have also elevated the book immensely.! I am happy with the way everything ended with Zion & Mariah, in their relationship and with their families!
This book was 🔥🔥🔥 from the beginning to the end, I have no complaints. Ms. Danielle Allen came out 🔫blazing from the very first page. Three years after being betrayed by her boyfriend and her best friend, Mariah is still hurt and defeated. She is now extremely skeptical of people and finding it hard to trust again. Trying to move on, Mariah just keeps having one bad date after another. After one really bad date in particular Mariah goes home, gets drunk and “accidentally” applies to be a part of a relationship social experiment and hit TV show called InstaLove. During the experiment she will be engaged, live with and marry a man she had never met all within a month’s time. The show’s matchmakers have paired Mariah with Zion and dare I say it was love at first sight. The story takes you through the hardships of trying to navigate a relationship on reality TV as well as everything associated with it (producers, no outside contact with family or friends, lack of privacy etc.). Mariah questions if the love can really be “REAL”. The story takes you through a few twist and turns, some bomb sheggs, and a journey to true love. I really want to say more but don’t want to give anything away. I will say that her new best friend Benjamin, his girlfriend Kayla, and Grandma Pearl will have you laughing.
This book is related to the One Series Duet which is a different reality TV show created by the same producers. This book is a standalone but it definitely wouldn't hurt to read the other two. There is also another book titled InstaLove:The Reunion (due out on 3/14) where the host sits down with the couples after their honeymoon.
Oh my word. So much I can say about this story. It really read like a fairytale. I am so happy to have read so many jewels that were dropped and it had me wondering if there really are Married ar First sight Reality shows I can sign up for that are this thorough. Because sign me up! Zion and Mariah were absolutely adorable and made for one another. I laughed, I swooned, I gasped, I clutched my pearls and I cried. I can't say enough good things about this story. It was absolutely amazing!
Did I just watch a show or read a book?! omg! so good!
First off there was not enough violence in the first prologue for me! Hands and feet needed to be used because Mariah’s ex-boyfriend and an ex-best friend tried it and deserved hands and feet! Fast forward to her signing up for this dating show and them finding a match for her! Danielle Allen is such an amazing writer that this felt like a tv show the entire time! I didn’t even realize I was reading! From Mariah saying yes to going on the show to change her life and dealing with the emotions of her decision and her family’s feelings, it all felt so real! Her dad not being on board made sense and I’m glad clarity was given to his decision in the end. Mariah’s experience from day one of the show felt so real and I loved every second of experiencing her emotions. This book is written from her pov made the experience better. I had a feeling Zion was the one for her and boy was he! Zion and Mariah were so dreamy. They respected each other’s boundaries and their connection was everything. True fan favorites and truly worked together. I believe those two challenges they lost were rigged lol. But their journey on the show was real, raw, and made me appreciate Danielle Allen’s pen because again this didn’t read cliche it felt like I just got done watching Netflix! I think one of my favorite parts was Zion opening up to her about his struggles and finding comfort in trusting Mariah. That scene was beautiful and also his way of apologizing 🥵🔥🤭! I love love love them! I want to read the reunion and just get an update because this love between them was fated even if it was on reality tv! I definitely recommend this book!
The idea behind this book, Danielle, you accomplished it so beautifully. If your thinking of reading this book PLEASE DO!!
Mariah is still unhappy and demoralized three years after her best friend and boyfriend betrayed her. Mariah took “Live. Take chances. Be happy," seriously that she joins a matchmaking show where she discovered Zion has her match. These two literally made my cheeks hurt. Mariah and Zion were incredibly special. Their relationship was everything, and they respected each other's boundaries. Their romantic journey was so genuine and authentic. The story walks you through the challenges of attempting to manage a relationship on reality television as well as how everything related to KIP irritated me to the point where I couldn't stand him. I appreciated watching Mariah and Zion find solace, love, and trust in themselves.
After one really bad date, Mariah goes home drunk and accidentally applies to be part of a relationship social experiment and hit TV show called “Instalove”.
This is the first book I’ve read by Danielle Allan and it’s safe to say I will be checking out more of her work. The pacing of the story was done well and I did not want the story to end. The concept of the show was amazing and I enjoyed the couple challenges.
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Reality show trope Arranged marriage trope
If you're a fan of Married at First Sight/Love is Blind, you will eat this book up! Instalove follows Mariah, a woman who is tired of the dating scene. After walking in on her boyfriend with her best friend, Mariah stays single for several years. One drunken night after a bad date, she applies for Instalove. She doesn't even remember she applied until she gets a call that she has been matched! The premise of the Instalove show is that the couple is engaged and over four weeks, they live together, participate in activities created by the Matchmakers to encourage bonding and compete with the other couples for prizes. At the end of the four weeks, the couple has to decide whether they want to get married or not.
I loved Mariah and Zion so much! The book follows their romance. I actually liked that we didn't learn who the other people were matched with until closer to the end, because we got to focus on Mariah and Zion's development as a couple! I could definitely tell why the Matchmakers paired them together. Even when they had an argument, they were able to resolve it once they learned how to communicate with each other. And their physical chemistry?! Off the charts. Once they put their hands on each other, they couldn't stop!
I loved the little twist at the end, and loved seeing Mariah and Zion find the love they'd been wanting for years. I know the author has "Instalove: The Reunion" releasing in a few days, where we'll get to catch up with Mariah/Zion along with the other couples. I can't wait!
TROPES: matchmaking; black romance/BIPOC/OWN voices; older MCs (late 30s); forced proximity; reality TV show; blind date/blind engagement; love after heartbreak; great friend group; steamy; no 3rd act breakup
TRIGGER WARNINGS: cheating (not between H/h) - heroine walks in on her then boyfriend with her best friend
The characters are a 5 The chemistry is a 5 The segggsss is a 5 The entertainment is a 5 This whole damn story is a 555!!!
First, Back in 2020 when C19 hit, I discovered MAFS on Netflix and binged one season in one day. It was exciting, fun and scandalous and baby, this story was just so. But even better!!!
Mariah and Zion brought the heat! I loved them together; they were electrifying! Scorching hot, this is what I need when a couple has chemistry. So nasty, uninhibited and whew, that’s what I like!
The first page had me gagging, literally 🤣 I laughed so much and when the seggggssss hit, ouch! I had to text my boo hurry up and get home. If I accidentally scream out Zion, I’m holding the author personally responsible!! Sheesh! Listen, the author was playing mind games because I really didn’t know if this match would spark or not, it was testy, but so real. I just loved how the story unfolded.
But even more than the deliciously incredible sex, were the fun challenges and seeing them grow closer. It was exhilarating! I would ditch all of my responsibilities to watch this if it were a true reality show! It even helped me see how things may play out behind the scenes of some of my favorite shows. I also loved EVERY single character, especially Grandma and Benji! They were hilarious and I just wanted to hug grandma!
Ooh this book gave me everything I needed and so much more! I needed a pleasant, escape full of laughter and hot sex on a platter and that’s what I got. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a bingeable read that had my tongue wagging out from the heat! I swear I needed a dip in a cryotherapy machine. Geezus be a cool breeze!
Why is it that the books I discover on my own hit the hardest?! I’m sooooo glad that my girls at @indiespines created the #indiespinesreadathon because it helped me branch out and find some great new-to-me authors. Love, love, loved this one!!! I definitely plan to read Danielle’s backlist!!! I recommend it for anyone who wants a story they can get lost in, but only if you’re not scared of some 🌶️🍆🌶️ 😜
I think about this often. The concept of the show itself is amazing! Miss Danielle Allen knows how to write. This was a cute read although I disliked how Zion acted at the start (his outburst)🙄Him and Mariah were very very cute🥺
I really enjoyed this book a lot! I felt like I was really experiencing a reality show. It was so well written until I wanted so much more. I can't wait to get into the reunion.
5⭐️ this was so good y’all. I loved mariah and zion. the chemistry was off the charts. minimal beef 10/10. and then the way that they was meant to be together way back when??? ugh. I love it here.
I really enjoyed the reality show concept for this love story. It was unconventional, but it worked. This book told me to hush and be patient. At first, I was frustrated because I wanted instant fireworks. It was feeling like a slow burn to me. Then Zion turned up the heat and I couldn’t get enough. Their chemistry was amazing. I loved the way they trusted each other. Both characters were incredibly lovable. It was so much fun to see their journey unfold. The surprises at the wedding and the reception had me crying happy tears. It was so touching! I absolutely loved how things worked out. Now I want to be an InstaLove contestant.
This was so cute. Really liked the characters and the relationship between our main characters. The spice was 🥵🌶️ when it did hit. Only thing that would have made it a 5 instead of 4 for me would have been a bit more drama. But I immediately bought the follow up novella: the reunion. Can’t wait to read it!
First let me say, I loved this reality show in writing. Its been several years since I read The One, so I had to review and remind myself of that amazing two parter. And ladies and gentlemen, this updated version with Mariah and Zion's journey to love was brilliant. We saw the struggles with Mariah's dad, wow, that part nearly broke my heart. And Zion trying to woo his woman and finding business investors. In the mean time both were going through a life changing event. Some of the over the top stuff with Lion's producer Kip, made me want to come see him for a talk. Mariahs producer Paige was a better character for the story. The other contestants added the drama too. But obviously, Mariah and Zion were my fan favorite too. Did I mention how much chemistry they exuded? I loved this sequel to The Ones......
I dont want to b mean but I truly dont understand why all the 4 stars. Now this wasnt bad per say, guess it just wasnt for me. I’m a HUGE romance girlie but maybe it’s because I find reality tv shows ridiculous in general so I couldn’t quite connect with this book. There was way too much dialogue and marriage after 1 month ? Ive eaten bools where they get married to 2 days up😂 again ig its the whole plot itself for me - as those books would involve some mafia stuff.
Anyway, I thought why not try it since it had such nice review but nope. Not for I.
Tropes: -Arranged marriage -Finding love after hurt -Reality TV -Married at first sight/love is blind vibes
Summary: Mariah was betrayed by her best friend and her boyfriend (he was a cheater, cheater pumpkin eater, eewww). And while she was over them, she was still triggered by the pain they’d caused. But what she truly wanted was love. After a bad first date, she applied to be a part of the relationship social experiment and hit TV show InstaLove. It wasn’t until she was accepted to be part of the show that she realized she would be engaged to a man she’d never met. Now she has to decide if this is her forever or not.
My Thoughts: AHHHH!! As an avid lover of Married At First Sight and sometimes Love Is Blind this gave you all of the feels of both shows. I loved this book so much and it is definitely in my top 10 of 2023. This book was all about letting go of your hurt to allow new love to flourish. Mariah was hesitant but knew she wanted love like all of us hopeless romantics. I was so happy she opened up to Zion and let him show her he could be the man for her. Zion, I was a little skeptical about at the beginning and worried he might not have been there for the right reasons but you eventually understand his intentions with Mariah. And I ended up adoring him in the end! The lengths he went through to make sure Mariah had the wedding of her dreams😍. The spice starts off slow but once it gets started it explodes. Zion is HOT and FILTHY🥵🔥. And so is Mariah lol. Danielle Allen is a new to me author and now I’m obsessed and will be reading more of her books!!
When love hasn't been kind, you take what some people might say is an unorthodox route.
After Mariah lost herself after a really bad break up left her without a best friend or boyfriend she seemed to just be floating through life. With a nudge from her mother to live, take chances, and be happy she finds herself on a reality TV show hoping to be matched with her husband.
Zion is chill and laid back, with a desire to take care of his future family. He had several life shifts during this process, but the partnership with Mariah he didn't realize he needed helped him through the process.
I loved that they took their time getting to know each other, even if it was partly due to miscommunication. They were careful with what they showed the world, while making fireworks amongst themselves. Their love story was quick, but it was sweet and seemingly destined. The end where Zion made that beautiful gesture for Mariah was my favorite part.
This book was PERFECTION. It grabs your attention from the prologue and doesn’t let up. I was rooting for Mariah and Zion from the beginning. This was such a cute, fun read and I really didn’t want it to end. The perfect balance of all the feels, all the laughs and all the spice. The way their relationship flourished over those 4 weeks.. it read like a fairytale. I wanted them to get their happily ever after so bad. My heart raced every time Kip said anything, I didn’t trust him at all 😭 I will admit I cried a few times but I LOST IT at the “wedding”, cutting onions. I wanted to rip the producers to pieces when they gave Zion his “ultimatum”… why would they do that 😂
Danielle Allen executed this concept of a reality dating show perfectly. I felt as if I was actually watching the show.
This was the advice Mariah’s mother gave her. She hadn’t been herself since a hurtful and embarrassing break up. Taking the biggest chance ever, she signed up for a reality dating show (intentional or not) where she met a man who taught her to live and be happy.
- I loved the couple. Zion and Mariah are too cute together - I loved Zion. She made that man too sexy. And a freak ..mmm.. here for it - I loved the way they organically fell in love - I loved the dynamic between the family and friends and the way she showed there can be platonic male/female friendships - The spice was top tier. (“You gripping me like you want to be my wife. Is that what you want, baby? 👀💦)
Zion has made it to this years top ten book boyfriends 😍
Another fiery coupling at the hands of an author who consistently delivers. I loved everything about Zion and Mariah, their chemistry, honesty, transparency, everything! The author opened this story in true shock and awe setting us up for a love that we needed to warm our hearts and believe in love again even with the backdrop of a reality show. Zion issss bae, point blank period and Mariah is boss phenomenal woman, phenomenally! Another great one. Pre-ordered the reunion. Cannot wait to hear more about Zion and Mariah!!!
I really don’t know why I keep reading these reality type dating shows knowing I don’t watch them in real life! I only watched s1 of LIB! I guess I think the books will be different!
However, I did like this one better than previous reality dating show books I read.
I did enjoy the chemistry build between the main characters.
The 🌶️🌶️ was definitely there!
Overall fast paced, great plot (if you like reality type dating shows) , insta love!
Really wanted to get Zion’s POV!!!! I loved to know the MMC POV!
Holy Moly!! I’m not one to really watch reality TV, but my first experience reading about it was incredible! Danielle Allen drew me in, and didn’t let go! Mesmerized with the story, I couldn’t put it down! I literally felt like I myself was in the show itself! Sensual, passionate and beautiful! My anxiety was through the roof when the final decision was made! Exciting was an understatement! Unique! Phenomenal book!
TW - cheating (on page, FMC’s ex boyfriend and best friend), death of a grandparent (mentioned) CW - voyeurism, sensory depravation (blindfolds), bondage
Tropes - reality tv show, insta love (hence the title but also doesn't feel like it is)
This was so fun to read, I genuinely felt like I was watching the show; I was nervous with Mariah (FMC) waiting to find out who she got matched with 😅. This book was so cute, such good vibes and hot 🌶️
Nothing more to say really other than I wish we got more of them after the show but I understand that's not the point of this book 😅. Defo recommend Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek
My greatest joy was that wven though they were on TV Zion and Mariah were still their authentic selves. They set their own tone and pace and didn't allow the producer influences to rattle them. I rooted for them unwavering!I just knew with Robery Brady at the helm it would be a mess but he behaved!
