Maeve Sparrow is a normal girl—it’s her life that’s anything but normal. She and her mother never stay anywhere long, she’s been to more schools than she can count, and can pack and be on the road in less than an hour. It’s crazy, maybe, but it’s their life, and for them, it works.

Then, everything changes. A tragedy upends her life and Maeve finds herself living with a long-lost father in a quiet lakeside community in the far north of Michigan.

And that’s when things get…weird.

Have you ever just felt drawn to someone? Compelled to look their way? Caspian is a bright beacon in her strange new life. He’s as far from normal as anyone can be, and somehow, she just can’t seem to stay away from him, or from his equally attractive all-male family.

The more time Maeve spends around Caspian and his family, the more both her suspicions and her body are aroused, and by the time she figures out the truth, it’s far, far too late to return to ignorance and innocence.

The truth is a scary thing, but something in her blood and her body seems to crave them. And once she’s had a taste of Caspian’s world, Maeve is utterly, absolutely certain that she'll never want anything else…

No matter the consequences.

I don't even know how to review this book. Mainly because I don't even understand it. I've seen reviews before I started that this is really similar to Twilight and it truly is. I kept waiting for Maeve to say she had a purple comforter. If you aged up Bella and had her having some relationship with all of the men in the house (Edward, Jasper, Carlisle, and Emmett), then you have everything that happens in this book.

There are so many plot holes, and it leaves a lot of questions for the reader. Why is Maeve so okay with everything? What kind of weird version of vampires are these? You just go live with someone who says they are your father without even getting proof? I have more, but then this would be like 3 pages long.

After all the "What is Maeve?" questions, we are hit with a cliffhanger and more confusion. I thought this was going to be a standalone, but obviously not. If the author releases the next book fairly soon then I might pick it up just to get answers. However, if the release drawn out, I'll just most likely forget about it.

Not so bright heroine and a vampire Hero who keeps ghosting her for her own good!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💜🩷💙💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️😄😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration via virtual voice

The heroine: Maeve - she is a high school senior and is eighteen years old. Her and her mom live alone together and have always moved around a lot due to her mom’s job constantly relocating her. They have lived mostly in warm places like Florida, Arizona and California. One evening her mom doesn’t come home and the following day an officer comes to her house to tell her that her mom was killed in a car accident. Weeks later a detective named Andreas from Michigan comes and tells her that he is her father. That he had been in love with her mother when she up and left him when she was pregnant with Maeve. Maeve has nothing left and is not ready to live on her own so goes back to Michigan with Andreas.

The Hero: Caspian - He lives in the same town in Michigan and is also a senior in high school. He is secretive and though he is very handsome, the rest of the students tend to give him a wide berth. He and his two brothers Sterling and Finn, live with a sort of guardian named Alastair. Finn owns a local auto shop and Sterling is a T.A. at the local college. Caspian and his brothers wear mirrored sunglasses all the time, saying that their eyes are sensitive to light. He is often fun and flirty in the mornings in the first class he has with Maeve, and his cheeks are pink, though later in the day he tends to get pale and grumpy, often ignoring her.

The Story: Maeve gets to know Caspian and feels drawn to him, and to a lesser extent to his brothers and Alastair. She feels a strange hum in her blood when they are near. Maeve knows something is strange about Caspian and his brothers, but it takes far too long for her to catch on to what it is about them. It becomes obvious, even to a rational person that they aren’t normal, in addition to the fact that she can sense their nearness, when they remove their glasses, their eyes are sometimes completely black with no whites or iris, they can move preternaturally fast, and much more.

Like many of the other reviews I have read, it is hard not to compare this story to Twilight, especially with how the main characters in both books look at all the clues to figure out that they are hanging out with a vampire. Though in Twilight, the clues are a bit more subtle, or able to be explained away, while in this book you are hit in the face with a long list of characteristics which are obviously paranormal, and Maeve seems utterly stupid to take so long to figure it out.

Though there are some big differences between this story and Twilight, especially that Maeve might not be completely human herself. Not only does she feel this hum in her blood when she is near Caspian and his family, but she often has strange dreams about her mother and father and in those dreams, they have pointy ears. Also, there is the mystery of why her mother left her father when she was pregnant and why they moved around so much, it sure seemed like she was trying to hide from someone.

This book had some strange vampire lore, in that the vampires are born, not made, and need to feed, and they do so without killing the “host”. The feeding and sex are often intermingled. Though they never go as far as penetration except when they are trying to create a child. And if they do, and it is a female vampire, she will know right away and will kill the man that impregnated her in a mating frenzy and when male vampires use a mortal woman to get a child, the female will die after giving birth from feeding the baby. And lest I forget, the French revolution was really about immortals trying to be included in society, and the same for the American revolutionary war.

This audiobook was told in Maeve’s point of view via solo narration and was narrated by virtual voice. I was surprised at how good it was. I have listened to audiobooks done in virtual voice before and they usually bother me since you can obviously tell it is being read word for word based on the tempo. This one sounded much more natural than what I have heard before. Of course, I still like dual and duet narration better, but this one wasn’t bad. As the book went on, It did start bothering me a bit because it was one tone of voice for the entire thing, and I often found it hard to distinguish who was speaking at any given time.

Wow! What a ride!
As I was about 10% into this book I felt a reminder to a famous series, the further I read the more it reminded me with so many similarities.
I really enjoyed the book, the characters and the storyline- I'm not a big fan of paranormal books so this was a surprise for me.
There were areas of this book that kept me guessing until the very end- a great aspect to the storyline.
I hopeful author Jasinda Wilder will continue to write more in this world through the secondary characters interlocking with the main characters from this book!

WTF just happened here?!?! Let me start by saying that I've been a long time fan of Jasinda Wilder and will read whatever she publishes. The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because I didn't DNF and was curious about where it was going.

This one disappointed me - not because of the theme since I have enjoyed PNR before - but because of how unoriginal it was, especially the beginning. Without giving away too much, I'll just say that it reads like a Twilight revamp or fan fiction. The similarities were WAY too similar not to get those vibes. It's like they took the premise of the books/movies and added hyper-erotic and taboo sex scenes, which were uncomfortable at best.

I get that this is a new genre for her and I applaud the effort. It's just not unique and the love story is awkward. Not at all what I know this author is capable of. I will read the next instalment because like I said, I'm curious. But I'm skeptical and I think the next book will make or break my decision to read more from her.

How do I describe this book without giving anything away?!

Two words…..It’s amazing!!!

Mauve meets Caspian when she moves to Michigan with a guy who claims to be her father after her mother dies. There is an indescribable connection between them and she can’t seem to get him off her mind. She NEEDS him on a soul deep level, but she doesn’t understand why.

Having been born and raised in Michigan it was amazing reading a book that featured my home state. I recognized the places and landmarks. I could clearly picture them as they were described.

This book is so unique and something I didn’t know I needed in my literary life. It a paranormal why choose romance with fated mates. It has all of my favorite elements wrapped up into one book.

This book had me hooked from the beginning and I NEEDED to know how it was going to end! The ending BLEW ME AWAY!!! It was something I had a feeling about, but was still shocked when it was confirmed.

I NEED more from these characters. I NEED to know what happens next!!! Hopefully Jasinda will give us more!

Take everything you thought you knew about vampire/paranormal lore and throw it out the window!
To me, it has the YA factor of Twilight but the sexiness and steam of True Blood. But make no mistake - it's not the same old same old. Blood Heir is a creative and unique take on the old legends. The world-building is fantastic as is the passion and depth of emotion. Not to mention the eroticism is amped up, which is saying a lot for a Jasonda Wilder book!

I had an inkling of where the ending was headed, but I was still pleasantly surprised when I got there! I cannot wait for the next book because there is a lot to be explored and unfolded in this series.

Blood Heir is one heck of a dive into the paranormal genre for The Wilders, and they definitely did it justice - and then some!

I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed an ARC of this book.

steamy and stuff of fantasy

I can’t say enough about this book. It was so steamy and hot. I really hope this isn’t just a standalone because I would love to read more about how this turns out! The coven and all that that relationship turns into. Oh it’s a such a great read. I found myself reading slower to really picture and fully grasp all that was being described and it was (chefs kiss) perfection. Jasinda definitely knows how to write! I’ve read most of her books and this one was different but in such a good way! (Blush)

WOW!!!!!

Whoever said this was like Twilight was totally wrong in my opinion. Got a little tired of the angst mid book but after that had to stay up all night to finish & get to the end which, so sadly, was just the beginning of a wait for next book. I almost never write a review, just give star rating. But must say I REALLY enjoyed this book & felt the need to say it's different from the hundreds of paranormal books I've read. So, please get the next book in the series out soon. Am anxiously awaiting a reading marathon again. By the way, read your Badd Boys series too & really loved it [ 5 stars on books but no written comments] Mahalo nui loa for being such a wonderful author.

80% and gave up

I kept reading because I wanted to know what kind of supernatural she was. However the info dumps about history were just too much even with my skipping. At one point the history lesson took a whole chapter. The heroine keeps saying she wants answers about supernaturals but keeps swaying to conversations to repetitive history stories.

Most of the history stuff could have just been precised and we would have got on with the plot not a class session.

I made it about 28% before giving this one up. All I could think was that it was this author's version of Twilight and I didn't feel like reading it. I did feel sorry for Maeve and what happened with her mom, hated that she was left floundering. This one just wasn't for me.

I’m a fan of Jasinda Wilder’s emotionally intense love stories, and when I saw that she had written a paranormal book, I knew I had to read it. This book was definitely not what I was expecting, but it captured my attention and had me invested, and I enjoyed this one.

Firstly, it’s impossible to review this book without acknowledging that it reads like a sexy Twilight reboot. I’m not sure if it’s intended to be fanfic, but there’s so many similarities, it seems stupid not to mention it. It’s an almost identical storyline, except there’s smut – and a lot of it very surprising.

Maeve Sparrow is living her life with her single mother until she is suddenly and tragically killed. All alone in the world, she packs up her life and moves in with her long-lost father in a small rural town (feeling familiar yet?). At school, she is drawn to a quiet but gorgeous fellow student by the name of Caspian. What she feels for him is not normal, and it’s clear that he’s feeling the same sort of connection right back. But he’s secretive and keeps to himself, with whispers of ‘it’s not safe for you to know me’ (hmmm, imagine that). But their connection cannot be ignored and as Maeve and Caspian get to know each other more, she is drawn into his world where she meets his father figure, Carlisle Alistair, and two ‘brothers’, Emmett and Jasper Finn and Sterling (at this point, it’s just a little bit ridiculous). She knows that the ‘family’ aren’t normal, and she has her suspicions, and her world will change forever when she finds out the truth.

Yep, so you see where the story is going, and despite the near-identical beginning, I was actually invested in Maeve. She’s almost 19, so just that little bit older than naïve Bella, and she’s a really likeable character. Where this book differs from Twilight is that Caspian and his family give of wild sex pheromones, and she descends into raptures of mad lust whenever she’s around any of them. Luckily then, that the vampires in this world have unique views on blood drinking, sex and sharing/open relationships. Yep, it’s anything goes, and the more the merrier is actually expected, and there is a whole lot of heart pounding, stomach churning, moaning and dripping as Maeve’s limits are tested by the new men in her life. But it’s Caspian with whom she shares the most intense connection making it a definite m/f love story, just with some sharing (but no actual sex) on the side. They call it love, to me it felt more like a supernatural bond than actual romantic love, but I could definitely feel their attraction and what they meant to each other and I like Maeve and Caspian together as a couple.

I thought this was a really well-developed world that Wilder has created. The lore is different from other paranormal stories that I have read, I appreciated the originality and I was intrigued by the history and curious how Mave was going to fit into the world, and where the story was heading.

The book does ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, and is definitely unfinished, so I’m expecting that there will be more books and I’ll definitely be jumping on those when they are released.

Don’t go expecting anything too serious (this is paranormal romance after all), but this is an enjoyable read… not for young readers.

3 stars.

Maeve is an average girl, but her life has been anything but. She has been constantly moving around with her mother her whole life and has been to so many schools she couldn’t possibly remember them all. Then, one day her life is turned upside down. A tragedy leaves her living with a father she’s never known in Northern Michigan. That’s when things really start getting strange. She meets Caspian who is the bright spot in her new weird world. She can tell there is something different about him, but she feels so enamored with him and his all male family. By the time she figures out what is so different about them , there is no returning back to her world of blindness and innocence. The truth might be shocking but something in her aches for them. Once she has a bit of Caspian’s World she just knows she will never want to leave. No matter what.

Honestly, at first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. It gave me major Twilight vibes. I was so wrong. This book was a delicious meld of Twilight and True Blood with a little cayenne pepper thrown in. I’ve always enjoyed Jasinda’s writing, and she does spicy romance so well. I ended up
Not wanting to put it down because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I really hope this is going to be a series because I NEED more! I gave this book 4 stars because I couldn’t put it down and it was a super fun, spice read. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of spice in their books and is fond of the why choose trope.

WOW, just wow it what I have to say about this book. This is not my typical read but since it is a Jasinda Wilder book I knew I couldn't go wrong. Maeve is a young girl who loses her mother after a car accident. She realizes how much she doesn't know about her own mother. After being left alone after her mothers death a man comes forward and claims to be her father. She figures she really has nothing to lose and packs up and moves to Michigan with her father. Maeve finally clicks with someone at her new school. Caspian and his family basically become Maeve's extended family. Keep reading the book to see what happens next.

If I could use one word to describe this book it would be devour! First off, once you start, you won’t be able to put it down and will devour every word. I’m not usually a fan of paranormal romance, but this book changed me!! The second way you could use devour to describe Blood Heir is that Caspian and Maeve devour each other literally and figuratively, sometimes with just a look. Not to mention the rest of the Taylors. The spice is ghost pepper hot and wicked. I am praying for more of my new unexpected guilty pleasure from Jasinda Wilder!

Twilight 2.0 fanfiction without the Mormon innocence and SAT words, but add in polyamory and uncomfortable vampire sex talks. Also a lot more paranormal/fantasy elements. It’s really not good but it is entertainingish. With that said, I will forever love these kinda trash stories. Judge me, I deserve it.

Give me more!

So so good! One of those books that reminds me why I love reading so much. This was truly an incredible story. The author crafted it as carefully as a painting. The sentence structure and flow match Maeve’s experiences so that you can get wrapped up in Maeve’s emotions and sensations. The descriptions are vivid and thorough. The first person perspective in this novel is how every first person perspective should be written, in my opinion. There is the perfect balance of internal and external dialogue. This is one of those books where the author shows more than tells. Because of this, I really appreciate a book that lets you experience things yourself rather than summarizing events and conversations.

The depiction of vampires in Jasinda Wilder’s writing is so unique and brilliant. I haven’t read a book where vampires were described in such a way before, and this could very well be one of the most believable variations of vampires in modern literature. I thoroughly enjoyed the background, history, and the lore of the supernatural creatures. Everything made sense and fit together like puzzle pieces. Nothing felt forced, or required benefit of the doubt. Indeed, disbelief could be suspended entirely. Do note that this depiction of vampires may not align with your personal beliefs.

As for the story itself, the mysterious aspect of ‘what is he’ and ‘what is she’ was well done and not at all overplayed. I enjoyed learning with and through Maeve. Perhaps the story could have been slightly more genuine if Maeve formed palpable relationships with people outside of the Taylor family. Maeve’s relationship with Andreas didn’t really get the chance to develop, but I am excited to see it do so in the next book. I have so many questions about him. What is he? Who is he to Maeve? And in turn, what does he know about the true nature of Maeve’s mother? There is plenty of foreshadowing to suggest Andreas could be a key component in the next part of this story.

I also like the way the author approached the reverse harem/multiple mate trope. The boundaries Maeve and Caspian established between their relationship and the others was refreshing. It’s nice not to have DP shoved down your throat every other page. I rather enjoyed the idea of Maeve being loved by one and worshipped by the others, not necessarily because she’s so sexually enticing, but because she completes their coven.

All in all, I could read book after book about Maeve and the Taylors. Alongside the characters, the mystery, suspense, and build-up, the way this book keeps you enthralled to the very end was very enjoyable and entertaining. There are still many questions left unanswered and I wait eagerly for more, more, more!

Note: I do not feel this is a Twilight ripoff. Yes, there are similarities. But there are also similarities to other popular books and TV shows, for example, True Blood. Aside from Maeve moving to live with her dad, the similarities in setting (namely the high school setting), and the way she becomes wrapped up in the Taylors (such as the way Bella became wrapped up in the Cullens), this story is original and totally different. The fragility of a human teenage girl being coveted by a male vampire who is scared to hurt her is a common enough trope, but Jasinda Wilder put her own twist on things. At the end of the day, vampires are vampires and there is only so much you can do with them. As such, I feel the capabilities of vampires were maximized in this story.

I normally don’t like comparing books to others, but this one very much gave me New Adult Twilight vibes. There were obviously differences in the story but it still has that feeling to it and there were enough similarities to it. (For me at least)

“I’m drawn to him, like a fly into a spider’s web.”

The writing style wasn’t really for me. It was a little bit too formal and descriptive. I like just enough details to be able to picture it but not an overwhelming amount and I did skim scenes because of the amount of descriptive detail of the surroundings or sometimes just the main character monologuing in her head for too long.

Trying not to sound rude but Maeve just reminded me of a really horny version of Bella. Caspian held no draw for me whatsoever. His brother Sterling was more interesting than him, but honestly, all of the characters felt very one dimensional to me.

This was just an okay read for me. I could see the potential for me to have loved it but it just kind of fell flat for me. The story was kind of intriguing, that might be because of those similarities to said other series I was a huge fan of, but the characters and the writing just fell flat. The ending does lead me to believe that there will be other books but I’m not too sure I’d read them.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the first book in what I hope becomes a new series! It is a PNR book that gives off Twilight feels but is so much more and full of hot and steamy spice.
Maeve's mother was killed in a car accident, and days later, a man stating he's her father shows up to take care of her. With nowhere else to go and no other options, she moves with him to a small town in Michigan. That's where she meets Caspian. She is drawn to him and his family. It's also when she starts questioning everything she thought she knew.
I don't typically read PNR but wowzer! This book had me from the beginning, and then there were the last few chapters. What ending ending. Definitely want more of them.

Wow, wow, wow! Blood Heir isn't your typical vampire novel. It's so much more...

I absolutely loved the scorching hot chemistry between Caspian and Maeve. That push and pull that sucks you in, (pun intended) and has you flipping through the pages. It has some of the same feel as that other vampire series that shall remain nameless, but Ms. Wilder has put her own spin on it and I was hooked from the get-go. And that ending??? Now, I need a sequel to this book like ASAP.

OKAY but really

Like many others I had a Twilight feel at the beginning. I'm not gonna lie but as someone who loves Jasinda I decided to trust in the process and was pleasantly surprised. Not realizing that I was not having a second book at the waiting. I'm so excited to see where this book will go!

Wow! Hot and Spicy. This is like nothing I have read before. I’ve found a new trope. Paranormal. Why choose. There is so much in this. After loosing her mother, Mauve finds herself in a new town. I can’t say more without spoiling it.
