Celeste King is the author behind the Worlds of Protheka, a collection of interconnected series that promise dark fantasy, intense romance, and washboard abs. When it comes to her stories, there are sure to brooding alphas, sassy humans, and plenty of spice to look forward to.
With the ever growing fantasy worlds, the 'what ifs' are endless, and that is what excites her the most. Even she doesn't know just how far these characters will go, but she's gladly along for the ride.
You can always find her fearlessly diving into an adventure (in this world or another), typically with her husband, and partner in crime, at her side.
She helps keep the excitement alive for the rest us with each of her Prothekan works, where there are no heroes coming to save you and being kidnapped...isn't so bad when your captor is this hot.
Charmaine is a human working as a "slave" in a world controlled by dark elves. Her master, Miothro, offers her more luxuries than most other humans by allowing her to work in the open-air market. Often, she's visited by Imris, a dark elf unlike most others, and there's a flirtation and teasing air between them. After a love encounter between Charmaine and Imris, she finds herself pregnant and alone when Imris is forced away on a business trip. She doesn't realize Imris is being kept away from her, and that secrets and lies from people she trusts most would keep her and her love separated.
When Imris is forced away from Vhoig and Charmaine, he finds himself going crazy -- all he wants is to be with Charmaine, to show her how much he loves her, and potentially free her from her servitude to his older brother Miothro. But his family is keeping him away -- spending weeks dealing with a shipping issue on their Pyrthos farms. Finally solving the issue, Imris catches the first speedy ship home but he doesn't find Charmaine. His brother claims she's been sold to another owner in Orthani at her request.
After years apart and a rough pregnancy with twins, Charmaine and Imris meet unexpectedly again. He never knew she was pregnant with his children, and she has no clue what kind of man he really is after all of the lies and stories she's been told by Miothros, who is still her owner. And just when Charmaine and Imris have found their happily ever after, it seems life is still working to keep them apart.
***************
Written in alternating first-person POV, "Twins for the Dark Elf" follows Charmaine and Imris as they fall in love again and attempt to keep their unexpected fledgling family together.
The worldbuilding for this series is non-existent in this book. I suppose if you want to know anything about this world you need to read the first two books, but I feel like there should have been some sort of recap or something in this book for people who don't realize it's a series. I found this book on Tiktok or something and had no clue there were other books nor do I have plans to read those books, so I just felt so confused most of the time.
The romance was fine. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't all that great either. I wanted to like it. They had great chemistry and both really seemed to care about the other a lot or so I was told. There was so much drama and miscommunication keeping them apart that reading was aggravating though. Charmaine would only hear bits and pieces of a conversation or be told to believe something by people she always claimed weren't good, and go off with that stuff. She claimed Imris was completely different from any other dark elf she knew and would never believe that he would abandon her, but he's only gone for five weeks before she starts thinking he's used her. I just hated it. And she makes it hard for him to be with her and their babies too once he's found out about them. She made me want to hit her with a stick every time I was in her head.
Imris was a good character though. He loved Charmaine, showed her in his own way by frequently visiting her at work and buying her products, and never pushed her to respect or love him. He worked at her pace and just wanted her to love him like he loves her. When they get together, he's beyond happy. He even writes her letters as soon as he's left to tell her that he would be back and that they would be together, despite his family having obvious objections to it. He was literally forced to go the day after they were together, he didn't even get the chance to tell her himself. And suddenly she's disappeared before he comes home and he goes looking for her. He hates traveling and would prefer to stay at home on his farm, but he goes across the world to search for her for over a year. And then she gets mad at him when he finally finds her. Jesus, justice for Imris. But that being said, he's a good dad. He wasn't expecting kids nor does he know how to care for them, but he figures it out and is there from the start for Charmaine and his babies. He loves them and still loves Charmaine, and he just wants his family to be together, but his older brother constantly seems to be working to keep them apart. He almost got into a fistfight with his brother over it.
And his brother, Miothro. I wanted to hate him, he was written to be this villain keeping the main characters apart. But I felt bad for him when I heard his backstory a little bit. But we also hardly know him as a character. There's just no development for him, but I suppose he's meant to be a character in a future book in which he'll develop as a "person".
But thankfully, they get their happily ever after in the end. The narrative dragged a bit and the pacing of the romance was very fast. It just felt rushed but too slow at the same time. This book honestly could have been shorter and I don't really think I would have missed anything.
Charmaine, a human female, tending to the store front of a stationary store under Master Miothro, was a rarity. After a while at this she was trusted enough to be allowed unsupervised out in the city to sell at a stall. She has done that for three weeks, and a dark elf- her fave, Imris visits her there and orders things and they flirt and tease each other. Charmaine doesn’t realize that Imris is the younger brother to her Master, Miothro. Miothro warns Imris away from Charmaine.
Things happen. Miothro lies to both Imris and Charmaine and a lot of heartbreak and misunderstandings occur. Makes me wanna smack all three of them. Things are revealed on Miothro’s part that explains his behavior. I then just wanted to hug them all. Charmaine has her babies, but she had been sent away. If it wasn’t for Shosro as Char’s friend and helper, and Dirrui, Imris’ friend, there wouldn’t be a happy ending. So I hope that they fall in love with each other.
The twins, Dovrec and Osella are adorable little evil monkeys lol. But all kids are like that. I find it hilarious that where Miothro sends Char away to, is so close to his brother’s lands to laughable. So what happens next is ‘duh. Miothro and Imris’ father is just like his sons and is a rare dark elf like them. He doesn’t believe that humans are inferior creatures.
I really enjoyed the story, as well as learning more about the every day like of the middle class dark elves. I can’t wait to read Miothro’s book which is next. The whole Protheka series overall, is a wonderful read. It has something in it for everyone- from just the dark elves, to orcs, to demons, to vampires and dragons, to gods, as well as the Minotaurs and nagas. Just lots of mythological fun and romance.

Charmaine is a human who works for her master in a stationary store. Her boss is fairly kind and considerate. For the last few years, she has been flirting with a dark elf customer named Imris. Sparks fly constantly between the two. Finally they have a passionate encounter in an alley. Charmaine thinks that this the start of a beautiful relationship but then she doesn't see Imris again for a long time. She does find out that she is pregnant from that alley encounter. Her master tells her that Imris has left her since he got what he wanted. He offers her a job running his new farm which would be better for her baby. Char is content on the farm and happy to live in the country with her newborn twins. Then one day Imris shows up on the farm and acts like he had never ditched her. Can she believe his story and trust him again?
Imris is very drawn to Charmaine. He has waited almost four years to get close to her. When finally he gets the chance to be with Char, he is dreaming of a future together. However his family sends him away on a business trip which takes a lot longer that expected. When he returns he finds Char is gone. Her boss and his brother tells him that Char requested to sent away. Imris still wants Char to be his so he has spent the last year or so looking for her. He is totally shocked when he finally finds her on the neighboring farm and even more shocked to see two babies that look like both of them. He wants to be a family together but will Char give him a chance?.

This is Imris and Charmaine’s story and how they had to fight to have a future together when his family keeps pulling them apart at every turn. Can they have a HEA with all odds stacked up against them or not.

Honestly, i enjoy the hidden children series the most. The Dark Elves are well... Less dark. Lol. They tend to be sweeter, more gentle and romantic.
I am also happy that there is another POC human main lead. I am looking forward to more human diversity.
I'm not sure why the covers don't reflect in general the characters. Perhaps that is something that will be addressed in the future.
Regarding the story... I loved it.
I especially loved the banter. I enjoyed the back and forth between Char and Imris. The way he was eternally patient with her. The way he never looked down on her. He is written beautifully.
Charmaine is strong and sassy. She breaks the stereotypes. She displays what is possible when the humans are given a chance to succeed.
I am a bit sad to let them go. I hope to read about them in the next book.
4 1/2 stars - I am loving this series about Dark Elves becoming fathers. I liked the characters, Imris our dark elf farmer and Charmaine our human and her twins Osella and Dovrec. The storyline was interesting and kept me entertained while reading. Charmaine works in a market shop owned by Miothro in Vhoig and Imris comes to buy where their chats moved to friendly to flirty to when they become lovers. This forbidden romance is not welcome by Charmaine's boss who is Imris' older brother. When Imris doesn't show up because of a family business meeting, Miothro tells Charmaine he's never going to show up. What happens next is an engaging story as they meet again after the misunderstanding that torn them apart. I volunteer to read and review this copy I received.
Imris (H), a dark elf of the k’sheng caste, flirts with Charmaine (h), who sells stationary wares for her Master Miothro. Eventually the pair give in to their attractions to one another and then Miothro does what he thinks best for Imris, who’s actually his brother, and sends him on an extended voyage. Miothro wants to protect his brother from harm, and by extension Charmaine, and sets events in action to keep them apart, especially when Charmaine realizes she’s pregnant with twins. Imris returns and he has his work cut out for him trying to convince Charmaine of his love for her and their dark elf-human hybrid children. A sweet dark elf romance with a side of heat and a protective hero who never gives-up.
“I want to stay here with you for the rest of our lives. Watch our kids grow until they are off on their own adventures.”
I enjoyed this book. I actually messed up somehow and read the next book- Triplets for the Dark Elf- before this one. It made things a little tricky for me as I loved Miothro when I read his book, and there's tension here between him and his brother Imris, who I loved in this book. I liked Charmaine and loved the banter between her and Imris. Once they are separated, I hate the misunderstandings that drove wedges in between them. But Imris's devotion to her and love for her was so clear. I needed his happy ending- though having already read the next book, there wasn't any question. 5 stars
The third book in the Secret Babies For Prothekan Dark Elves series. Dark Elf Imris and human Charmaine's story has its ups and downs, lies, angst and romance. I enjoyed seeing them get their happy ending. The story is well written with a good storyline that held my interest. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Oh my, this is another adventure into the lives of the Dark Elfs. They are finding that they are not as superior as they think, they find that the humans are their equal in more ways than one. Look at who they found were their mates. I'm glad that this author has written another series about them. It's always an exciting adventure in another book
This story was so moving, exciting, entertaining and just WOW!!!. I was so happy that they finally got it all together and moved forward🤗. Celeste is a Fantastic storyteller and is a PHENOMENAL writer!!!. Can't wait to read the next book!!!.
This was a great read. The characters were fantastic. The storyline was spot on. The twist in the plot gave it an edge. The ending was absolutely beautiful.
This is the 3rd book in the series ... it is full of drama and deception, although the deception was meant to protect rather than to hurt. Worth reading!
This is another great action to the series by Miss Celeste King. When family becomes everything and you loose site of what's important by your good intentions.
I find this author brilliant, elves are so sexy tall good lucking masculine strong handsome men, exactly what human woman need in her world. I enjoy so far
When the mmc leaves the fmc she is so mad and she cried and screamed. Now he is back she just forgets all that and is ready to love him again. He doesn’t even explain why he left. Bruh
I think this one was pretty okay, but the constant miscommunication was actually REALLY annoying. And the reasoning for the first misunderstanding was actually so fucking stupid.
This was a very interesting read. Imris is a dark elf with an amazing open and carefree personality and heart. He is so caught up in Charmaine from the start. She is also just as caught. They just need time to get up the nerve to cross the Dark Elf/Human divide. But when they finally do they are blocked and a year goes by while they are both hurt and numb with the wrong understanding for why. With time and patience they will get to their happy ending with their small family and village of trusted and supportive friends and family.
