At the start: Oh, this book is about a boy becoming a painter!

Middle: What the heck this book is about society and religion and relationships

End: just another traumatising book about life

I've read another book by this author before. It is definitely one of my favourite books. The author has a way with words. Unfortunately, she uses them to hurt me.

And I've got to say, she was especially merciless with this book. Nothing ever good happens to the main character. Genuinely, nothing he ever wants becomes his. Most people either hate him or are dead. Something so traumatic and unjust happens to him towards the end when I thought the bad things had already happened. Oh my lord when I read that part I immediately closed the book and pondered if I wanted to ruin my day further by reading the rest of it. The main character, Pado, kind of reminded me of Xie Lian from TGCF. He is tortured throughout the story, even till the end. The main difference is that Xie Lian got a happy ending but Pado most definitely, in any perspective, did not.

To summarise the context, there is a boy whose father was an untalented painter. The father hangs himself as he believes he is not good enough. But the boy, Pado, was exceptionally good. Yet after seeing his father commit suicide, he promised himself not to become a painter.
yeah that's the introduction chapter to this book condensed. Already depressing, isn't it? But haha! no!

Pado is hated, abused, and tricked throughout the book! wow! and when he finally accepts himself and people start respecting him as an artist, someone decides to make him look like he stole the King's ring (I know, HOW and WHY the FUCK would you do that) and after getting beaten up for attempting to defend himself (god forbid a man tries to save himself) they decide to cut off both his arms...

Respectfully that whole chapter was extremely hard to read. He's just bleeding and crying and screaming and starts losing his mind.
Pado, the innocent Pado starts hating everyone. Afterwards he acts harshly towards people he once loved, and they start drifting apart. Oh, the pain I felt reading that part!
But then the author was being humane because Pado started painting with his mouth again! He starts to love himself, wants to live again, and slowly rebuilds his previous relationships.

The End!

haha I'm joking the author kills him off at the end.

I was going to lose MY MIND I was so mad at the author.

He finally completes his art piece and as he runs happily towards his studio to tell his friends and to thank them, he suddenly collapses and dies from tenatus.

AREYOUSERIOUS?
