Lily's intricate fairy figurines aren't just art; they're a link to a world she never knew existed.
Then Theos, a kite-surfing champ with a royal fairy secret stumbles into her life.
When a looming catastrophe thrusts the pair into a desperate quest to save Theos’ kingdom, it embroils Lily in a world of magic, peril, and hidden legacies.
A small beach town in California, a woman who doesn’t believe in magic, and the man who is about to prove her wrong… Lily doesn’t need to believe in making a living. The fairy figurines she makes draw in customers who come to the Boardwalk to catch a glimpse of magic. When the reigning kite-surfing world champion wanders into her store, Lily has no idea that her life is about to get turned upside down. Theos seems an unlikely customer for a fairy figurine, but when he buys one, he takes on a second mission—to convince Lily that magic is real. Theos is more than a handsome, charismatic athlete. He’s also the crown prince of a fairy kingdom. The competition Theos came to Myers Beach to take part in is disrupted by his father’s news of an act of revenge with far-reaching consequences. The King tasks Theos with replacing the contaminated fairy dust their people need to survive. His monumental task means sourcing the nine elements that make the dust before the illness sweeping through the fairies takes the ultimate toll. The good luck pendant Lily gives Theos sets in motions a series of magical events that bring them together. Can the woman who doesn’t believe in fairies be the answer to the fairies’ dilemma? What fate awaits the prince and the shopkeeper if they try?

Summer Thunder by Alan B. Gibson is the first book in the Magic at Meyers Beach™ series, an urban romance and fantasy series.
While the beginning of the book has a slow pace and took some time for me to become fully immersed, a few chapters in, and I couldn't put it down. In many ways, this book follows the clichés of a romantic novel, but I wish the fantasy aspect had a stronger presence.
Once you get past the initial stages, the writing style makes this approximately 300-page book a fast read. The author successfully creates characters that are easy to root for, especially Lily, who stands out with her hardworking nature and attitude. The relationship between Lily and Theo is your typical love story, and although I was expecting more angst, it still takes your heart on an emotional rollercoaster with them.
I also adored Greta! She stole the scenes she was in, and I couldn't get enough of her and her friendship with Lily. This book was an enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it to fans of fantasy romances who prefer a lighter tone, and since this is a series, I'm eagerly looking forward to reading the next book!
I read Summer Thunder because the blurb intrigued me and to my surprise it turned out to be one of my favorite romance reads. Firstly, I am so happy with the place the book is set in, the premise itself is so addictive and one can't resist getting into it as soon as they know about it. Lily sells fairy figurines which brings good luck but she herself doesn't really believe in them, on the other hand we have one and only Theos, who is different, unique and such an attractive characters, girls get ready for fangirling over him! Yeah! The book is all about characters, I feel the way all the characters are brought, whether the main characters or the side characters, each of them has their own uniqueness and identity, they all are different but the way they blend into the storyline is worth appreciating. . . This is my first read from the author and I wasn't quite sure of where it will take me but honestly the journey I undertook through this book was more than adventurous and amazing. It's basically a blend of cozy romance and a bit of fantasy with drama. Again, a character I feel was so well built along with Lily was Greta, it was in depth and almost the entire book is through dialogues and conversations which makes it more lively and easy to plot it in mind. . . I truly had an amazing time with the story, it definitely should be converted into a movie because I feel these characters they desverve to be known by many people, it was fun as well as impactful. The ending wasn't too typical, I love how realistic the story was closed, it was satisfying. I would love to read something like this in future as well. . Rating: 4.5🌟
This is the second time that I have read this book, it has been changed up some and I really enjoyed those changes. The book is mainly told from Lily’s POV but I love that we now get Theos’s POV too.
This magical romance is set in a beach in California where we have sweet little stores and cafes set along a boardwalk. Lily first met Theos as he appeared in her shop looking for fairy dust. This pair had an instant connection though neither of them acted on it straight away.
I loved Lily’s character, she has so much going against her, mainly her ex husband, but she works so hard to provide for her and her son Jaimee. She fights to do better and doesn’t let anyone walk over her.
Greta is an absolute doll, she has so much spunk and sass and really is the life and soul of any party. I can’t wait to read her story. I think as much as she is out there, I’m guessing she has a huge vulnerable side to her.
Theos is of course a fairy and what a fairy he is, I would love for him to come and grant me some wishes haha. I love how much he connected with Jaimee, he really looked out for him.
Such a sweet romance with a whole lot of magic thrown in. If you are looking to dip your feet in the whole fantasy genre then this would be the perfect series.
If you are looking for a quick easy read then this book is for you. It would be great for a day at the beach or a lazy rainy day where you just want to read and get lost in the storyline.
I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others.
Summer Thunder, Book I in the Magic at Myers Beach fantasy romance series, by Alan B. Gibson, published by LMBPN Publishing.
For those interested in urban fantasy, beach-side romance, and the adventures of plucky local fairies, Summer Thunder will be a strong opening to the Magic at Myers Beach series.
Gibson's descriptions place readers in the cool spray of kitesurfing and the quaint boardwalk of Myers Beach.
This story keeps a tongue-in-cheek attitude as it tackles real-world issues. Powerful national banks sweep up local institutions, bullies wield the term 'fairy' against boys like Jamie who don't follow their standards of masculinity, and the lives of people like Lily risk being seriously upended for the sake of someone else's real-estate investments.
...the characters are driven and will pull readers easily into their schemes.
The book is about Theos and Lily's unconditional love for one another. Lily is headstrong, independent, and stuck in a loop of bad luck. She makes fairy figurines that customers buy to bring them good luck, but her merchandise doesn’t seem do the same for her. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t believe in them. Theos is handsome and charismatic, a kite-surfing superstar who travels the world. When he saw Lily for the first time he was enticed towards her and so was she exactly how it happens in fairytales. _____ Can we please take a moment and appreciate the cover and the title of the book, I was drawn towards this book like a paper pin is drawn towards a magnet- they are magnetic. I am so glad I brought this book because its unique and all the themes are well blended and honestly this says a all about a book, it made this book worth reading. If i talk about the plot , the plot of this book is dreamy and simple, yet mysterious and intense. You see, the book has a lot to offer. Being a Romance novel I didn't expected the female character to be so strong and captivating, because let's face it in most of the Romance books women are portrayed to be dense and slow-witted. Now let's talk about the characters, when Lily and Theos saw each other It was love at first sight and Lily was fangirling over Thoes. I love their journey, after having their fair share of hardships the couple never stopped loving each other. _____ I almost cried on some occasions, Shedding tears over a book is the most important thing to me because making the audience feel something inside is super difficult and Gibson did phenomenal job. It's hard to believe that Gibson is a pre-owned writer of horror and thriller books and this is his first Romance novel. Nonetheless, I will highly recommend this book to every single person who is drawn towards steamy Romance fiction just like me. Even if you haven't read any Romance novel you should try summer thunder it will leave you stund. I promise it won't let you down.
I chose this book mainly because of the beautiful cover and of course the hint of fantasy.
Her luck couldn't be any worse. The bills are piling up and Lily Harper's shop, The Fairy Kingdom, just isn't bringing customers in like she hoped until the mysterious and very attractive Theos, the kite surfing King, enters her store with his bevy of followers. After buying some of her most expensive sculptures, he suggests she create male fairies. And who better to model for her new sculptures than the sexy Theos himself. Her attraction to Theos is very strong, but she has an 11-year-old son, Jamie, to raise while going through a divorce with her husband Kelly who has violent tendencies. If that isn't bad enough, she finds out her building is up for sale and she has to raise $100,000 to buy it. She really needs her luck to change...and perhaps Theos is her good luck charm.
This is a sweet and magical romance with a little bit of everything from romance to suspense, from mystery to fairies. I felt so bad for Lily when everything just seemed to pile up on her and there didn't seem to be a way out. Theos had me wondering about his impromptu disappearances, just when I expected more, but I can't reveal any more than that without spoiling the story. As far as Greta, the witch, and Lily's friend and next-door business owner goes, I'm not sure Lily should have forgiven her so easily.
Apparently, Mr. Gibson normally writes horror and thrillers and I think he did a wonderful job on his first romantic fantasy. It's nice to see another man trying his hand at this genre. If you like charming and enchanting romances with a bit of real-life issues thrown in, give this book a try.
Thank you to Mr. Gibson for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Summer Thunder is a short romantic fantasy and I finished this light magical read in a day. I can’t believe I got an Author signed copy of this book 💛💛. . Lily is headstrong, independent and stuck in a loop of bad luck. Her shop selling fairy figurines isn't doing well , She is about to lose her home and her almost ex-husband is emotionally abusing her. But a stroke of good luck hits Lily, when Kite-Surfing Celebrity, Theos walks into her shop. Theos and Lily are drawn to each other, but Theos's mysterious disappearances means that he has something to hide. Something Unusual. . It is amazing how a story with so much details can be written in under 200 pages. The writing style of this book is easy to read. I really liked Lily in the story - she is strong in the face of endless adversities and did not go running to a man for help. Theos is just her love interest and not her knight-in-shining armor . She stood her ground and tried to solve her issues herself. She does get a lot of magical help , but it isn't in her nature to ask or wish for it. . I don't think this book is strongly romantic or fantastical. It has a little bit of everything and felt more like Lily's journey to freedom from her troubles. The climax is cliched and I would have liked to see more fantastical elements, since there are fairies involved. This is a premise I would definitely like to read more stories in. Summer Lightning is the next book in this series and it will be fun to see how the Author builds on this! . Thank you @rrbooktours and @abgibson for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I discovered A.B. Gibson's works a while back and I loved his novels in the Horror/Thriller genre, so I wanted to see if his talent could translate to Romance. Picking up Summer Thunder was the best decision I ever made.
Lily, the main character, is compelling from start to finish! Her endurance in the face of such hardship and struggle kept me on the edge of my seat the whole readthrough.
But the rest of the cast isn't to be forgotten. Gretta, Lily's best friend, is a powerful, speak-her-mind balance to Lily's more tender persona. Theos, Lily's love interest, is a huge sports star with a heart of gold, which makes him the perfect fit for Lily. And let's not forget poor Jamie, Lily's impressionable young son, who undergoes so much throughout the whole book. An excellent line-up of characters, if you ask me.
Summer Thunder is an easy, fast-paced read with a steamy romance that leaves you yearning for more. I hope to see more of the Lily/Theos duo, if that's even possible. Or, at the very least, see more of Gretta or Julie!
What a dreamed story! The book caught my attention from the start. “Summer Thunder” was written by A. B. Gibson. A renowned writer of horror and thriller books but now he gave a try to a brand-new genre: romance; this is his first one.
It is an exquisite example of this genre. It is focused on Lily´s life. A young married woman who must cope with her tough personal life and with her own business that has its drawbacks. She is immersed in a “toxic environment” which makes her feel miserable and hopeless. Fortunately, the day Theo entered her small shop, Lily´s luck and life started changing for the better. What they felt was love at first sight. Their lives were joined for a primary reason: love.
The author´s style is distinctive and clear. It makes you feel inside this genuine love story. This book shows a mixture of themes in this novel: disappointment, insecurity, love, violence, hope and RESILIENCE, which I truly believe is the best one to describe this novel. I really loved it! I thoroughly recommend this book!
Luck, magic, and love keep the pages turning in this refreshing contemporary romance from Gibson.
Everything seems to be going wrong in Lily’s life with her personal life in chaos and her business barely staying afloat. When the mysterious and handsome Theos enters Lily’s life, he brings not only a loop of good luck for Lily’s business but also the promise of true love.
Gibson’s style is clear and uncomplicated, his characters charismatic, and the romance between Lily and Theos brims with emotions without turning sappy. The hint of magic that always stays in the background gives an uncommon flavor to a familiar romance plot, and the complex character dynamic ensure that the reader never stop turning pages.
Though there is a love story, the exploration of faith, resilience, shifting relationships, and the themes of domestic violence and bullying stay at the heart of the novel.
A romance debut that hit all the marks of a binge read Summer Thunder is a story readers will love, adore and read many times as the author brings forward a unique and intriguing story line. Gibson's romance novel has its mesmerising charm on readers through beautifully set up plot, relate able characters and striking narrative. The writing style of author is simple, providing enough to create vivid images in your mind, keeping the flow, making you sweep with the story. The romance doesn't get dull and keeps your attention till the end. Characters are portrayed skillfully especially Lily having developments as you go along, making the readers easily link with them I would give this book 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and would recommend it to lovers of romance and anyone who loves a good read. Cannot wait to read the next book and more works from the author.
Lily owns her own shop on the shores of California where she sells handmade trinkets to tourists and locals alike. Her trinkets, mainly Fairy figurines that are purported to bring the owner good luck are popular and Lily, along with her best friend are eager to keep up the beliefs in order to help her shop going. That good luck they seem to bring never makes it way to Lily’s door, or does it? When she meets a world famous Kite Surfer and he seems to become enamored with Lily, she needs to decide how far she is willing to follow her feelings, and Theos has to figure out why he is quickly becoming obsessed with this shop owner. A lighthearted mystery romance is just what we need right now and this book, although making use of some mystery plot twists, is fairly simple in its formula, boy meets girl, falls for girl, girl is a bit of a clutz and after a series of mishaps a HEA ensues.
“Summer Thunder” is a romance novel written by Alan B. Gibson, language professor, advertising executive, film producer and entrepreneur. This is the type of romance books I love. The plot of the story is very good and well developed. Characters are believable and the reader sympathize with them. I like very much Theos character, handsome, charismatic and a super star in kite-surfing. Theos and Lily are from different worlds and they certainly don’t seem to be one for another; this is a touch that I truly enjoy in romance novels. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I was eager to know how things will end, because there is a mystery involved, and I was quite surprised. I will certainly recommend reading Summer Thunder because it was a novel that caught my attention from the very first pages.
This book by A.B. Gibson tells the story of Lily and Theos. Lily is known for being a strong, independent woman who owns a small shop that sells fairy figurines. On the other hand, Theos is an athletic man who travels the world. During one of his adventures, he stops by Lily’s store only to discover himself captivated by her. Lily is distant at first but finds herself becoming intrigued by him. They must then decide if they are meant to be with each other despite their many differences.
Gibson writes with a great style that makes putting this book down difficult to do. Unlike many romance novels that can be a little generic and predictable, this book includes many twists that are sure to surprise readers. If you enjoy romance novels or are looking for something new to read this might be a good story to check out.
🧚♀️ I was asked to read this book in return for an honest review 🧚♀️
If you are looking for a quick easy read then this book is for you. It would be great for a day at the beach or a lazy rainy day where you just want to read something and not think about anything else.
I did enjoy this book and would definitely recommend it to others.
There is an underlying current of magic in this book which I'm not really in to, but it was not too much and fit with the storyline enough that it didn't bother me or put me off.
I still say a great quick read though if this kind of storyline is what you are looking for.
Great characters, great mystical elements, great romance. Lily is the Queen, Theos is the King, and I'm just here for the steamy in-between! :) A perfect book to read when you're curled up with a glass of wine and munching on some expensive chocolate.
So much fun to read in the time of Covid. It took me to the Beach and gave me a great sense of kite surfing. Romance, fantasy with some magic thrown in. Perfect beach book!
