I slogged through 20% of the work and just couldn't get into it. It did not grab my attention. It is sort of a sci-fi mystery with some seemingly electricity derived terms. Sentient beings somehow gain life source from the electricity in the ground. Anyway, someone turns up missing and a check-in clerk is asked to help find them, getting beat-up to discourage them. Of course it doesn't work. That is where I stopped.

Volt is a good story. It takes place in a sci-fi universe where most everyone and everything is sentient, all are super powered to some degree, and all are in perilous conflict with one another while also vying for a better quality of life.
I won't spoil the book by writing about the details of this story.
I gave this story 3 stars because there are more than a few parts of Volt where I ended up confused with what was going on in the story. It felt like whole sections of the narrative were either missing or poorly explained, and the more I couldn't understand, the less I was able to immerse myself in the story.

Interesting characters with some true flaws and grit and sarcasm. The stir has murder, adventure and fighting a dictator like regime with unusual sources of power. Alliances are formed due to common objectives, but relationships can be tricky.
I even like the hint of romance for the star character!
