Of the 9 BPD books I read back to back- this is the best
I have been looking for a go-to BPD book to share with clients and their families this is THE BEST of the nine highly rated books I’ve read. So many other books use demeaning terms or give misinformation based on their observational opinions — this book is straightforward, well edited, compassionate, thoughtful, thorough, and contains excellent citations. THANK YOU!!! This is the book I will be distributing as a therapist!
I really liked this book. Thorough. Thank you for mentioning treatments other than DBT. MBT and schema therapies dont tend to receive as much attention even though the evidence base behind them is equally as strong.
I think in future editions the author needs to move towards more recovery-oriented language, particularly regarding suicidality. I hate the implication that BPD lovelies with suicidal behaviours are "crying out for help", this robs people experiencing suicidality of dignity by making it sound dramatic. We are actually resorting to self-harm in the hope that you will *see* our distress because we do not have the skills or ability to express it in healthier ways.
Thank you for the carer chapter though, that was absolutely helpful and will definitely equip a carer or supporter with skills to manage their loved one's distress.
As a counselor-in-training this was an EXCELLENT resource to serve as an introduction to Borderline Personality Disorder and the subtypes. This guide provides the history, symptoms and even debunks common myths about BPD. I also enjoyed understanding ways that I can help support BPD in a professional and personal matter.
I listened to the audiobook version of this It is a very educational and insightful way to understand BPD, I did not know there were subtypes, and (Quiet BPD) the mental disorder is quite misunderstood.
I recommend this book for someone who is trying to understand their relationship with someone they care/love with BPD.

I was diagnosed in November 2023. The pain & suffering I’ve had to go through from a every young age has been a massive challenge. Not one thing was recognised by any kind of professional over those years and the battles have been extremely hard.
This book is an insight into the condition. And Anna is extremely understanding and supportive throughout this book… Her knowledge and experience in itself is a wake up call that we are not alone…and people do understand.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND people read this book is you suffer, or knows someone that suffers from BPD/EUPD ✌🏼❤️
I was diagnosed with BPD 36 years ago but was so embarrassed that I never told anyone. I also went into denial and didn’t try to understand it. Discussion and acceptance has changed since then and I'm just now researching the diagnosis. I want to manage my mental health as much as I can. I hope that I can eventually explain this disorder to the people I love. I hope that acknowledging it will help me to learn how to live with it.
Straightforward and easy read with a lot of insights into BPD from different perspectives, including those with loved ones who suffer from BPD. This book serves as an excellent primer to help someone living with BPD to understand a brief history of the condition, the condition itself and subtypes, and how that can manifest in different circumstances.
Not very in-depth, however I don’t believe depth was the intent. Thank you Anna for this wonderful book!
I really enjoyed reading this book. As someone whose mother has BPD and who has BPD myself, it is nice to know that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with me and that there is hope in me getting better and being able to cope with this disorder. I recommend this book to anyone who has family suffering from BPD or who is diagnosed with it themselves. It is a great resource to understand BPD.
This book has, added to my knowledge on bpd. As a mental health professional having the knowledge can only help enhance my skills, today more and more people are requiring mental health help bpd makes up a huge percentage of people I see. Compassion kindness empathy and knowledge.
As a therapist, I would highly recommend this book to clients, family members of clients, and other professionals. A very quick and easy read with content that is very easy to grasp and understand.
If you struggle with BPD, I highly highly recommend this book. This book has opened my eyes in so many ways to soooo many things living with this diagnosis. Definitely recommending this to my friends who struggle with bpd
