4.5 ⭐️ rounded up.

Excellent Debut Novel!

This book was easily digested and very well written. I am not much for romances that revolve around sports but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt like this really flowed well and I love the strong female main character and how she is a single mom. Her character is very relatable (I am also anxious and medicated 😂) and the male main character was easily likable for him being an “asshat” lol. I loved that he is tough but fair with his players and you can tell he really cares for them and I love that about him. I am very excited to see what else this author will have to offer!

This was one of the best books I have read in 2023. I truly think she wrote Ash after me. Ash is such a badass. Jace is the man we all strive to find

So so good!

For being a debut novel, Taking The Shot was so good! The chemistry between Jace and Ash was sizzling right off the bat, and their banter had me laughing for almost the entire book! Ash was a very relatable character, in my opinion. The spicy scenes were also very, very calienté and had me fanning myself during those scenes. I can't wait to read book 2 and more by S.L. Forrester!

Taking the Shot, Book 1 of the duet with My Kind of Perfect, was about Ash Miller, soccer mom and Coffee shop owner, and Jace Baker (his last name was never mentioned in this first book, but it was revealed in the second one), personal fitness trainer and soccer coach.
The novella started with Ash being home alone while her teenage son visited his father. Ash decided she didn't want to spend another night alone and that she would just go to the local bar and find someone to be with. After ordering a drink from the bartender, with whom she was trying to first, another guy interrupted her, telling her that the bartender wasn't all that into her. After exchanging a few heated words, the guy turned and left, and Ash headed to the ladies' room, only to have the "asshat" guy from the heated conversation push in behind her and then both of them ended together in a stall. What followed was a very hot, spicy scene some would categorize as a "quickie". Neither exchanged names or any other info. Then with a very flippant remark, after they were finished, the guy walked away.
The next day, Ash was taking her son, Silas, to his first soccer practice, only to realize the new coach, Jace, was the man from the bar. When he realized who she was, all bets were off and he was determined to pursue her. They had a very hot, very steamy relationship, one that was just as tumultuous as it was erotic.
During their hookup at the bar, Jace had been reluctant to use protection. His philosophy ut to that point had been that he'd never had a problem with "pulling out". However, Ash had a hard limit with no protection. If he didn't use it, they weren't going to be intimate. (She was on BC, but there were other reasons for the determination that he was to use protection every time, which she explained later in the story.).
Although this was a short novella, it was full of angst, drama, and the normal push-pull between the two main characters. There was also a ton of humor that balanced out the rougher moments of the story. The emotional rollercoaster ride was well-meted and entertaining.
Both of the main characters were well-developed and mature, although sometimes Ash came across as a b*tch more often than not. If you read between the lines, though, it was easy to understand why she was like that and to realize she was quite likable. There was a tremendous amount of growth from both the MMC and the FMC.
There were some grammatical errors that needed to be dealt with, but not so many that they interfered with the flow of the story.
This story had all the "feels" a reader of romance novels could ask for, and then some. It was well-written, had a decent storyline, an excellent plot, and even the bad ex who got what he deserved. The spicy scenes were plentiful, and the heart-thumping climactic ending was priceless. So much so that this little novella deserved a five-star rating and to be added to my Keeper for the Shelves collection. Now...on to Book 2 of the duet. I just hope it lives up to the first one!

Overall, this book was very cute. It just had some elements that I personally wasn’t a fan of. There was a lot of twists and turns between the MC and a lot of back and forth arguments and conflict it seemed like I was reading just a normal relationship, which is fine but I think I wanted an overall plot and conflict. The FMC was also the dominant one in bed it seemed and I personally just didn’t like that. I like a very dominant MMC which Jace did have sometimes but he liked being controlled more than a nothing and it wasn’t ,y favorite kink. Like I said overall I did like their love story and I’ll always support my girl SL.

Bit fluffy and sweet

I want to start off by saying this was a nice story. I loved Jace and Ash's back and forth, it was super sweet, Ash got justice and the spice was there. The writing style had taken me a bit to get used to.
It feels like things happened too fast and while the idea behind the conflict is an important issue, I was honestly expecting a bit more. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop that never does. But even through all of the pages, I still had some pretty good reactions 😁. I may just have read this at the wrong time because I've been more into dark romance recently. Probably wouldn't hurt to come back to this later.

So good!

This story was so good! Jace and Izzy's friendship is so good! Izzy reminds me a lot of my best friend and I think that's why I like her so much. Ash and Jace were nonstop going at it like rabbits and it was great! I kept cackling at how much of a smartass Ash is! This book was a very good book!

[dnf @ 52%] the heroine is not very likeable to be honest, i felt like she either has split personality or she is bipolar with the way she can go from 0 to 10 and back to 0 within seconds. her character just feels inconsistent somehow... don't feel like continuing because she annoyed me.

loved ash and Jace ❤️

I devoured this book in a day. The banter between Ash and Jace was hilarious. Not to mention I loved Ash’s sass and her independence on not needing a man after all she’s been through. Their s3xual tension and chemistry was good too. Definitely recommend.
