Selling my body to protect my daughter? Easy. Trusting the men who promised they'd protect me? Impossible.
When my abusive ex returns from exile to snatch our four-year-old daughter away from me, I’m on my own against him until three men with their own agendas show up and consume my life.
Dante's a violent and unpredictable arms trafficker. Lorenzo's my father's enforcer and my first heartbreak. And Nick? He pretends he's a simple pediatrician, but he has a dark, mafia past.
In a world where women are little more than trophies to be possessed, these men look at me like I have worth. And I'm going to need to use every weapon in my arsenal to keep my daughter safe--including these men.
Will it be enough?
Lies like Rubies is a complete, standalone duet that may be read independently of Diamond in the Dark, and is a dark, why choose romance. Part One ends in a cliffhanger, and Part Two concludes Sofia’s story. For a full list of content notes, please see the author’s website.
I want what Sofia has 😭 Well kinda Not her family nor ex but those men? They’ll do just fine.
So this book starts off strong with the (sexual) relationship between Sofia and Dante, with a slow build up to Nick and finally Lorenzo. Definitely feel like we’re gonna get more of those two in book 2. I LOVE degradation kink so I was excited to see it was in this book. However, there needed to be more of a background on Dante, maybe through chapter perspectives or some kind of emotional connection. It didn’t have to be insta love between him and Sofia, but he hadn’t even see her and immediately claimed her as his property. Not necessarily in the sexy way, in the entitled man way 😣. Overall it made me feel slightly disconnected from the sexual scenes and the heaviness of them. They felt too strong and fast between complete strangers.
I liked how self-aware Sofia was and how she played the game with her family in order to play her own game that’ll pay off. She’s a trooper. The plot was intriguing and I wanted to yeet Sergio off the face of the Earth, and maybe her dad too for giggles. There’s still the next book, so here’s to hoping! 🤞🏻
Lizzie seems cute and I think she can add some lighthearted moments. Hope we see more of her.
You know the Fuck, Marry, Kill? Yea the three guys conjured that in my mind. Nick definitely wanted to marry. Hands down easy answer. But the other two - Dante and Lorenzo - kept getting switch between the other two. Their actions had me head swiveling.
Sofia has to deal with these three very different and intense men. I pity and envy her at the same time. I completely understand her need to protect her daughter at all cost and trying to separate herself from her family to become independent. Pity because what she has to go through to do is demeaning . Envy because who she gets these men.
The book is super steamy and kinky. Some scenes may be triggering for some so caution is given.
That ending - though expected - still WHOA!
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I don't read a lot of mafia because I find them repetitive, but after reading Diamond in the Dark, I was hooked on the Savage Jewels series.
Sophia is a mafia princess, trying to find her own why and break away from the family, in particular the gilded cage she was put in. When her ex-boyfriend shows up to take her daughter, Sophia goes to unusual lengths to protect her. In walks Dante freaking Oscuro, a Sicilian mafia head that's dangerous and dominating. She makes a deal for protection to do anything. Big mistake, huge!! Dante is the biggest A hole but it's always the biggest that we love to hate. Damn he's hot, but be warned there is some serious degradation and kink in this book, it's not for the faint hearted. You have been warned. Even though Dante is the main MMC you get to know, you also get introduced to another (no spoilers) and they definitely get hot and heavy as the book progresses. Book two of this duet is going to be fire when all 4 of them get together!!!
Poppy Jacobson has excelled yet again. But that cliffhanger! Damn, why do you do this to me!!!
Another amazing read by Poppy!!! I could not put this one down and that ending… it’s going to be a long wait for part 2!! I find Sophia to be a little annoying sometimes but I think she is growing into herself as she tries to navigate through the life she grew up in. This book is HEAVY on the degradation. Dante is a super a hole but I have to admit that I LOVE him. If a man ever spoke to me the way he speaks to her I would lose it but reading it? Chefs kiss. Yes please 🤤🫠 We definitely haven’t seen the full potential of Nick yet and I am excited to see where that leads. Finally sweet Lorenzo.. I don’t have words for this one.
What was that! Seriously that cliffhanger, ugh!!!! I was so enamored in this story that I didn’t realize I was on the last page till I was on the last page. This Dark Mafia Romance is hot!!! Definitely read the CW before diving in as there are several triggers! However with that being said such a captivating read! Having to wait for Part 2 may just kill me.
25/29-01-'24: Re-read Lies like Rubies, Part One because I needed to refresh my ~shitty~ memory 😅 before I start book #2, Lies like Rubies, Part Two. The first time I read this book, I hated the slut-calling. This time I hated it even more! (Although Sofia is kind of a slut, lol!) 😟 I've become even less of a fan of BDSM. 😉 I skimmed and skipped a lot of the sex scenes. But.... if you like humiliation, degradation and beatings, you'll love this book! 😆
26/28-03-'23: I freakin' loved Lies like Rubies, Part One! 😍 Obviously I hated the cliffhanger 😉 but I kinda knew that when I started! I'm so sad I have to wait until the next book to find out what happens with Sofia, Dante, Nick, Lorenzo... and Sergio. I’m NOT a fan of humiliation, degradation and such. 🥴 Dante constantly calling Sofia a slut, was the only 'negative' thing I can say about this book. But of course the author is not to blame for my dislike of that kink. 😉 I used to like BDSM, but I kinda lost interest in the genre; this book had BDSM stuff in abundance. However... the story was simply too good to let the BDSM distract me; plus Nick's gentleness balanced Dante's asshole-ry. 😆
Poppy Jacobson was a new-2-me-author. And I am truly impressed.... especially when I found out that Poppy is a rather new author! Diamond in the Dark (about Sofia's sister) was Poppy's first book? Honestly... I might need to add another author to my favorite list!? 😄
I found out about Poppy Jacobson through one of my friend's many giveaways. I got spammed by a million authors 🤪 because of those giveaways! (I know that by participating in a giveaway I automatically subscribe to newsletters from the writers associated with the giveaways 😉 lol). Some of those newsletters were interesting though. One of them, was Poppy's.
EDIT after having read Diamond in the Dark: If I had known Diamond in the Dark came before Lies like Rubies, I definitely would have read that book first. 😉 (I always have a feeling I'm missing things when I read books out of order!) However, after having read both books, I can honestly say that everything that happened in Diamond in the Dark got excellently, yet sufficiently explained in Lies like Rubies, Part One. I can't think of anything that would've made reading Lies like Rubies more enjoyable if I'd have read Diamond in the Dark first. So... very well done by the author!! 👍🏻
Poppy! That cliffhanger, whew. That did a doozey on me.
"Sofia Russo was stunning. For the first time, I understood why Paris had kidnapped Helen, consumed by her beauty."
Sofia is a resilient single mom, mafia princess, fearing her abusive baby daddy, Sergio. He has returned for her and there daughter, and she wants nothing to so with him. While hiding from Sergio, her daughters doctor, Nico is kind and helps her.
Sergio has pissed off mafia man Dante, and he too has come to Sofia, to use her to get to Sergio. She allows the use of herself, in exchange for protection. Dante is dominating, jealous and ovet the top in his degradation, in his attempts to break Sofia.
"Oh yes, breaking this beautiful woman would be a fucking delight. I so rarely had an opportunity to indulge my darkest whimsies. What a gift she was— a chance to let loose the demons within me and f*ck with Sergio at the same time."
Lorenzo, her families bodyguard snd brother Lucas, best friend had his chancr with Sofia and he shot her down, cruelly. He sees her getting close to Dante and jealousy burns inside.
Nico is the uncomplicated man in her life, so she thinks and is very much like Dante, in the sense of wanting control and power over Sofia, but more respectful and kind of kinder in that regard.
"Sofia Russo. What the hell was I thinking? She was bad fucking news."
These men are all at the mercy of Sofia. The spice between 2 of the men with Sofia is hot! And seeing her slowly warm back up Lorenzo, i cannot wait to see where that goes.
"Maybe we could be friends again. I scoffed at myself. Friendship was not what I wanted from Sofia Russo." "
I enjoyed seeing her relationships form with each man and get to know them individually... Sofia is such a badass and with how this one ended, I cannot wait to see what happens next!
It’s heavy on degradation, humiliation and pet kink so mind that if those bother you. I have to say I think Dante was tiptoeing the line of abuse, both physically and mentally. 🤷🏻♀️ then he’d leave her to come down alone. I know, I know, she was just a pawn at first but… idk. Then the scenes happened so frequently that they started to feel a bit repetitive. Hopefully now what Nick/Nico is in the picture, we’ll get a good balance. Sofia’s had enough men in her life treat her like shit.
Like the spice scenes, I noticed the same lines being used repeatedly throughout the book. Constantly bringing up what her sister did to save her, how important her schooling was, protecting her daughter (who she spends VERY little time with?), how useless everyone thought Sofia was. Bit dragging to read the same thing almost every chapter. The plot seemed to pause multiple times and then randomly get serious again.
This was my first book I’ve read by this author, but I will definitely be checking out more of her books.
While this is geared as a why choose, there isn’t much of it in the first book (maybe more in the next one).
Sofia is a mafia princess who happens to have a daughter and in unwed. It really seems like her family doesn’t care for her.
So she turns to Dante to help protect her daughter from her bio dad who isn’t a good guy and also stole from Dante. Dante agrees but in exchange Sofia has to do everything he says.
Nick is a doctor who helped Sofia that actually treats her life a person
Lorenzo works for Sofia’s family and is her brothers best friend.
There is a lot of degradation in this book from Dante towards Sofia. In the one scene where it’s both Dante and Nick with Sofia, Nick tried to turn it down a notch.
No scenes with Lorenzo, but here’s hoping there will be!
This book ends on a cliffhanger. Check triggers & content warnings.
Story 3.5⭐️ Spice 4⭐️🌶️
I received this as an ARC copy and this is my honest and true review
Not my normal read but wow. Dark romance with why choose theme. HOT HOT HOT Characters you will hate and love at the same time. Strong woman character. Totally can't wait for part two. So hanging.
Wow! This book was 🔥🥵! The spicy scenes were just incredible. I can't wait for the next book!
We meet Sofia in Ginevra's book, but we don't get to really know her properly. So I was intrigued to find out more about her.
Lies like Rubies is set several years after Diamonds in the Dark as Sofia now has a four year old daughter Lizzie, but she isn't involved with the father Sergio. Unfortunately, Sergio is back in New York after fleeing Italy with money that he stole from Dante.
Dante is a big Italian Mafia figure and when he decides to go after Sofia to get his money back they strike a deal, she gets protection but he gets anything he wants from her back. Dante is just something else. The kink level with this man is a lot higher than I was expecting. Sofia and him have such an interesting relationship together. She doesn't want to like what he's doing to her body, but her body reactions say otherwise. Dante is possessive and 100% alpha. He wants to own Sophia completely.
Sofia doesn't just have Dante interested in her, she also has Nick, her daughter's doctor, falling for her. Nick's family are one of the Mafia families, but he decided a while ago to step away from it all, but when he meets Sofia who is a Mafia princess he can't resist. I loved Nick so much in this book. He's sweet but also has a dominant side.
Sofia in this book is trying to gain her independence from the Russo family, but Tony Russo only wants to keep her safe in his gilded cage. This causes her to start keeping secrets from her family about Sergio's reappearance. Lorenzo, who works closely with her father and also Sofia's old unrequited love, sees through her lies and is torn between his loyalty to his employer and the woman he has feelings for.
The plot is faily fast-paced, and with the multiple POV we get to see how all the characters are feeling about events and what's going on when Sofia isn't around. This book does end on a cliffhanger. Please be aware of trigger warnings. This book is dark, and some of the kinks that are featured may be a hard limit for some readers.
Oh yes, breaking this beautiful woman would be a fucking delights. I so rarely had an opportunity to indulge my darkest whimsies. What a gift she was - a chance to let loose the demons within me and fuck with Sergio at the same time. -Dante
Lies like Rubies, Part One: A Dark, Reverse Harem, Mafia Romance (Savage Jewels Book 2) By Poppy Jacobson 352 pages Currently on KU in the USA. Publication date April 7, 2023
I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my honest review. Please, watch out for possible spoilers, including but not limited to, TW/CN/Etc.
Possible TW, Tropes, and Genres Mature, Spicy, Dark Romance, Mafia Romance, Violence, CNC, BDSM, Why Choose, Polyam, Best Friends Sister, Bossy’s Daughter, Abusive Ex, Money Laundering, Cliffhanger, noncon, dubcon, impact play, bondage, her and die vibes, knife and blood play, degradation, unwilling exhibitionism, public humiliation, explicitly non-RACK BDSM, guns, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, violence, torture, kidnapping, murder, domestic violence (off page), direct threats to children (but no violence) and possibly more.
First off, thank you to the author for having a good range of TW on their website for this book. As well as speaking on how this is NOT “model for how to conduct a safe, sane, and consensual BDSM relationship”. BDSM, is almost NEVER like what you see on tv, read about in books, etc.
This is the first book I have read by Poppy, and based on this, I will be reading many more.
Now, for the book… HOLY FUCKING SHIT BALLS BATMAN. I loved, and hated characters from the moment they hit the pages. They felt so fleshed out, and real.
The spicy scenes, even when CNC/Dub/Non was in play were good and spicy. Iykyk.
The cliffhanger is making me wish I had book two in my hands already. Yes, there is a cliffhanger, but I think it is worth it to read this one and sit biting your nails till book two comes out.
If you enjoy dark spicy romances, with mafia, pet play, humiliation/praise, and touch her and die vibes from her guys.. This is 100% for you.
I highly recommend this book..
5 / 5 stars -Destynnee

This was awesome! Now I want to unalive some characters because they deserve it and even more, and with some characters, I'm just not sure what to feel, do I like them? Do I love them? or do I abhor them? Also, when can we get the next book, because I need it like yesterday!
So, first of all, this book is part of the series, and if you want to read about Sofia's sister's story you can do so in Diamond In the Dark. But let's talk about Sofia. She's a great character, but I did have some issues with her. She's definitely a queen, and everyone sees it except for her father and brother (not my favourite bunch since the previous book), but I had this feeling that she was undervaluing herself, or not actually using her skills to her advantage. Like, she had 4 years to study, and what she couldn't find a source of income that would be solely hers, so she would not be fully dependent on her father? This strikes me as odd. But then again she did have to raise her daughter while going to school, but still, she did try to find that part-time job, so why not use her skills and knowledge to find a better one, one that would not be so easily shut down by her father? But that's just my rant about her.
Now the harem, currently I'm completely against Lorenzo, I'm tolerating Dante (though he's twisted and I had conflicting thoughts on what he was doing to her), but unless he changes just a bit toward being less of a jerk (even though outside of the bedroom, the guy was amazing, especially how he was treating Sofia, like an equal and not like her family did. He was seeing that she was a gem, and was treating her as such), I'm petitioning to turn the book to a romance with only one male lead i.e. Nick, or Nick and Dante. (Lorenzo can go shed tears wherever, he had his chance and he blew it!).
Overall, this was a great book, spice was scorching, and that group scene with Dante, Nick and Sofia, mommy... it was way too hot!
Sofia has always been the bird in a gilded cage. Never having the freedom she so desperately wanted while living under her father's eye. Even now, she may be living on her own with her daughter and going to school but she still doesn't have complete freedom. So when Sofia is faced with some tough choices in order to protect her daughter she is willing to do whatever she has to in order for her father and brother to not find out and lock her back in that cage. So she is taking her life in her own hands. She is trying to protect her daughter, finish school and move away from it all. I love her fight, her confidence in the mask she needs to wear but I hate that she needs to wear it.
Dante Oscuro, after a reading this I'm not sure if his name should be used a swear word or something to be sung about. He makes Sofia a deal to protect Lizzie and he takes his due. Over and over and... 🥵 He has a filthy mouth, a dominate alphahole personality and takes whatever he wants whenever he wants it. Nick is Lizzie's pediatrician. He is sweet and kind and even though his family is deep in the same things Sofia's is he has found a way out. But under that sweet, kind, thoughtful man there is a dark side that we only get to see a tiny bit of and I'm so excited to have that man's time to shine. And Lorenzo... broke our girls heart before. He is her brother's best friend and is loyal to her father. So how much groveling is he going to have to do to get back in our girls good graces? Can't wait to find out!
There is a lot of pet play, a lot of deg and praise and plenty of spice!
Poppy Jacobson’s Lies Like Rubies is the first part of A Savage Jewels Duet. It’s a contemporary, mafia romance that follows her first book in this same world Diamond in the Dark which happens five years before Lies Like Rubies.
Sofia is a single mom of a beautiful four year old, Lizzie, and is just trying to finish getting her degree. She’s almost there. When we catch up to her, she’s frantically trying to hide from her ex, Sergio, who pushed his way into her pediatrician’s office. Once the threat passed, Nick (her pediatrician) offers to let her stay and hide in his office and then takes her home. Dante Oscuro is going to track down Sergio for stealing and the best way to do that is Sergio’s girlfriend, Sofia. Sofia’s well though out plans immediately get flipped on their head within 24hours. Will she survive this and earn her independence? Will she be able to keep Lizzie safe? Will she be force to marry Sergio?
This book! Ugh! This book keep me pulled into this world. I loved every minute of it. The pushed and pulls within the mafia world. The larger chess match that continues to play out and constantly keeps you guessing what will happen next. This book does end on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait until the next one is out so I can see what happens next and how this will all turn out.
(Please read trigger warnings before reading this book.)
"God, you're gorgeous when you're about to cry."
This book has sold me for mafia romance books. I have always liked the thought of mafia romance, but nothing has ever really kept my attention long enough for me to want to read more in a series. But add why choose and a whole lot of kink in there and I'm set. Dante, Nico and Lorenzo are all so different in so many ways but so perfect for Sofia. I'm so excited to see how these relationships develop in the next book. Sofia is so trapped by everyone around her from her family to the father of her child. For her to find an escape from life and have people take away the worries of the world, it's all you would want for her. I love how throughout this book her character develops into so much more. Dante is her person to break her down, Nico is brilliant for building her back up and Lorenzo is her familiar support system. I can see this turning into something so much more between the group and can't wait to see how these dynamics change aswell. We havnt seen much of Lorenzo throughout this book so for him to be brought in now has put such a big spin on this story.
That cliffhanger though, has made me crave so much more of this book. I can't wait until the next one.
This book was seriously wow, like jaw-dropping, what the F, I need to go to confession wow.
Sophia is a Mafia princess who is the youngest of three siblings, meaning her worth and value to the family comes in the shape of how she can sweet talk and flirt with her fathers business associates. Of course that's just who Sophia NEEDS to be but who she actually is is so much more, she's a mother to a beautiful 4 year old and as we find out in the book, a serious badass.
Dealing with an abusive ex that was ran out of town and has since returned Sophia turns to the only man she feels can keep her daughter safe, Dante Oscuro. A deal is struck he will keep her daughter safe in exchange for Sophies humiliation and her tears.
This book is dark and has so many k!nks that I would advise you to read the trigger carefully.
As if Sophia doesn't have enough on her plate, there is also her brothers best friend and fathers enforcer, who once upon a time could've had her heart.
Oh, and there's her daughters sweet doctor who treats her like a proper princess until he doesn't.
This book isn't all k!nk focused. There is a lot of action and bul!ets flying about as well as one heck of a cliffhanger! Thanks for that, Poppy.
I can't wait for book two, and I loved the development of the characters and their individual relationships with Sophia.
This is my first book by this author and I am definitely looking forward to reading the second part to Sofia’s story and more in the Savage Jewels series. This book was definitely intense and and packed full of kinky steam. These characters were seriously matched to perfection. It is a RH why choose romance and each of the guys compliments our FMC in their own way, and they each bring a different vibe to the relationship and give her what she needs.
Sofia is a strong independent single mother to Lizzie, and her main focus keeping her daughter safe. When her ex pops back up with intentions to take her daughter she will do everything she can to keep that from happening. So when three men, Dante, Lorenzo and Nick offer their protection she gives them what they want to make it happen. She becomes consumed by them.
This is a fast pasted edge of your seat story with intense heat and men who are most definitely OTT alpha men 100%. Ends on a cliffy and I recommend checking TW if you have any. This is a dark romance with a lot of different kinks and spice. Definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to reading part two to Sofia’s duet.
Gah! Poppy is my favorite up and coming author. This isn’t a cheaply put together dark mafia story, but rather its unique and so addictive! Sofia is the youngest mafia princess of the Russo family and she has become “damaged goods” due to her b*tch of an ex-abuser. She’s currently juggling college with her four year old daughter just trying to get through so she can get away. Of course, as a perfect mafia princess, she has to show face at her family home and flirt with her father business associates so he can get the best deals. She’s made her father a lot of money, yet he still would keep her captive if he heard how much danger she is in. A new mafia king is in town bent on revenge for her ex, and he’s planning to use her to get what he is owed. As Sofia is worried about her daughters safety she can’t rely on her family to protect them anymore, because of course they would just marry her off to her abuser since he is her baby’s father.
This story took so many twists and turns and I can’t wait for the next one to be out!! (:
I freaking adored this book from start to finish! This was my first book by this author, and I can’t wait to read more!!! That cliffhanger?! It was everything, and I wasn’t even expecting it to go that way!
Updated Review: Okay, after doing a quick reread, I can give my full thoughts..... This was a great read from start to finish, there were a few moments where I didn't like Sophia mainly because I found her to be a little irritating with the number of scenes that were just her crying... BUT when you really break her character down and realize just how much shes been through with her family and her ex, it makes total sense. This woman has been through so much, and now she has this dominate man who is demanding her attention, worries, and feelings to be put on him completely and fully without question. The woman has been forced to mask her emotions and put on a brave face through everything, so I can only imagine how freeing and scary that must be for her.
I am still so excited for Part two because that ending still is wild to me. I had my suspicions on how it would end but the build-up to it was just wow
Trigger Warning: This book can and will be intense for some, so PLEASE be aware of what you are getting into before reading. I have not one TW, but sometimes, even I was ready for a scene to end.
So good from the start. Sofia is a Mafia princess, so things are expected of her. Be a good girl, listen to daddy, marry who daddy says. Well Sofia isn't down for that, as she has the right to decide if you ask me.
She wants to be a good mother, a good student, and make a life for her and her daughter. Sadly, her baby daddy is a piece of garbage that is about to bring terror and danger to them both.
Dante, an Italian monster, who comes to the US to get his stolen money back. Nico, a mafia family son gone good, a doctor even. Lorenzo, the bodyguard that has always cared too much for Sofia.
Three men, one woman that can love them all, and needs them collide in a book that is only part one. The ending cliffhanger, UGHHHH...
Must read, and if you haven't read the 1st book in this series (I haven't but its in my plans), I suggest it.
Sofia is a very strong FMC. She is determined to protect her daughter at any cost. When Sergio Acardi shows up at her daughter Lizzi's doctors appointment she is afraid that her father is going to force her to marry him this time. Dante offers to protect her daughter in exchange for her tears and then some. She also has a thing for Nico ( the pediatrician) and Lorenzo, her fathers head of security. Dante degrades her, Nico is a sweetheart and Lorenzo is a big puppy dog. We see Sofia grow as a woman in this book, she has always been a m@fia princess, but Dante brings out so much more out of her. She becomes more like a queen. The cliffhanger at the end makes me want to make time fly until the next book comes out. I can't wait to see what these three men do to Sergio. The author keeps you turning the pages to see what Dante has planned next for Sofia and just how far he can push her. If she'll keep returning or if she'll turn to Nico or Lorenzo. I absolutely loved this.
Set 5 years after diamond in the dark we are getting Sofia Russo's story. Sergio accardi is after her and her daughter to get his power back after being run out of town. Terrified Sofia hides in a doctors office, where she meets nick Lombardi, another player in the game. Nick is taken with both her and lizzie right away. But the fun doesn't stop there. Getting back to her apartment she meets Dante oscuro, Italian Don there to use her to get the money Sergio owes. She makes a deal with him to protect her daughter and she'd do anything he says. And lastly we have Lorenzo, bodyguard to her father and her brothers best friend. Things get heated and feelings start festering in a delicious k I n ky way. It does leave off on a cliffhanger, but the story is dark and intense and worth the wait for part two.
No one and I mean NO ONE does a m@fi@ polycule quite like the amazing Poppy Jacobson. Lies Like Rubies pt. 1 tells the story of Sofia and the lengths that she will go to protect her daughter. Faced with impossible decisions, she succumbs to the demands of the only man that can save them and Dante Oscuro didn’t come to play. He came to degrade, humiliate and destroy. Nick Lombardi left the family to pursue his own life and career, but he’s sucked back in and is the kinkiest of kinky golden retrievers. And Lorenzo, Sofia’s brother’s best friend and former flame. He’s a little unsure, until he’s not and then it’s on. There’s no going back once these four come together. And they definitely come together. Lies Like Rubies is plot-driven, fast-paced, and hot as hell. I can’t recommend this book and this author enough. Poppy is a master of words and spreader of thighs. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sophia’s world is spinning on an axis that she desperately wants to control, but because of who she is it seems impossible. Her desperation to protect her daughter and step away from the dark world she lives in drives her to the arms of a dangerous man. I won’t lie, the trigger warnings in the book should be taken seriously. I don’t have triggers, but even I was concerned if I could stomach what was to come. It’s not my kink or something I even think I’d ever want a part of, but I can’t deny Dante and Sophia are fire red hot! The underlying passion Dante ignores buzzes and buzzes. Add in Lorenzo and Nick, yeah, totally onboard for the rest of their story. Can’t wait to see the end. Oh, forgot to mention the slime ball Sergio. You know he will get his due, but my mind is racing through all the scenarios of how it will go down. Yeah, can’t wait!
We first meet Sophia in Diamond in the Dark. She’s trying to find her way out of the gilded cage she’s lived in all her life, while also running from her abusive ex.
When her ex shows up, Sophia knows she’ll do anything to protect her daughter. So she makes a deal with the devil, Dante Oscuro.
Dante has his own agenda when he makes a deal with Sophia. With revenge on his mind regarding Sophia’s ex, he’ll show her what it really means to make deal with the devil.
This story is hot. I loved that it mostly focused on Dante and Sophia but i can’t wait until the other guys move into the line light. Dante is a grade-A a$$hole. You’ll definitely love to hate him. But I enjoyed seeing the slow shift in feelings toward Sophia.
This book ends on a major cliffhanger and I’m dying for book 2. Another fabulous read by Ms. Jacobson.
“Lies Like Rubies, Part One” is the first part of Sofia’s story, and it definitely starts off with a bang!!! Sofia is a single mom with ties to the Italian American mafia, and she is willing to do anything to make sure her young daughter is protected, even bargain with Dante Oscuro, a mafia leader with a dark reputation. I thought this book was really well written, but it is heavy on the triggers, so please be kind to yourselves and read the warnings before picking up this book. Also, if degradation isn’t something you enjoy, this book probably isn’t for you. I happened to enjoy this book, I thought it was intense and suspenseful and oh so spicy!!! Sofia is so strong, even when she thinks she isn’t, and I enjoyed all of her love interests for different reasons. The ending was such a plot twist… I can’t wait to see what happens next!!!
