A freak rainstorm has flooded Death Valley, leaving ruin in its wake. A park ranger finds a body along a remote trail, buried by debris. When they find the man was murdered, not drowned, the FBI is involved, and Zack Tolliver is assigned the case. He will work with another investigator, Tisha Knolls, of the Park Service Investigative Services Branch. Zack’s friend Eagle Feather is hired to search for a man gone missing from the naval ordinance firing range at China Lake. Both investigations deepen into an intricate series of events linking rare minerals, space technology, indigenous locals, industrial greed, and murder.
I’ve binge read the whole series, but this is my first review (sorry author… :). The books are very entertaining and a fun read. I’d give the series 5 stars, but for some minor annoyances. 1) Maria is an annoying evil bitch who just won’t die. I’m bored of her invincibility since her second appearance. 2) Zack always leaves his gun behind at the crucial moments. This would ordinarily result in his early demise under realistic conditions. 3) Eagle Feather constantly calls Zack “White Man”, and it looses its effect as an affectionate ribbing. A best friend would use it sparingly. Also, he always brings a knife to a gunfight. 4) Libby is annoying. Her character hasn’t been developed in a positive way and Zach seems mostly detached from her. While these are a minor annoyance to me. I do enjoy the complex plot lines and characters, keeping me guessing until the final moments.
I had to read this book as it dealt with China Lake NAWS. Being from that area and currently living in Boron, it piqued my interest. I wasn't disappointed, but intrigued by the way the story unraveled and how the boron mine was reinvented. Good read and telling a storr
Excellently story, excitement on every page, strong characters, engaging storylines...what more can you ask? I highly recommend reading this series in order, it helps with timeline.
Zack and Eagle Feather are back! This series is just wonderful. I’ve read every book and they just keep getting better. This book is full of action with plenty of twists and turns. I couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait for the next one!
The central characters are critical to the story line. Their behavior consistently builds the mystery & it’s resolution. So well written that it can be read alone & in conjunction with all of the Zack Tolliver series.
Gamble has successfully integrated Native American mysticism into the arc of Zac Tolliver's career and with it increases the interest in the story. Craig Johnson should take a lesson from Gamble on this!
What a fantastic read!!! I love the research that was done on the environmental concerns, the scientific advancements and the sell outs. Great storyline!! I love this series!!
Another cliffhanger. Lots of action. I love the characters of Zack and Eagle Feather. These books are so atmospheric I feel like I am there in the desert.
