WILL SHE PAUSE THE TRACK OF ACHIEVING HER DREAMS OR PRESS PLAY ON THE PLAYLIST OF LOVE AND LIFE? Danielle Johnson loves nothing more than black old school R&B, Soul & Hip Hop, and cinema. She has a lot going on for herself. A job. Nice apartment and car. And, her LIFE-LONG DREAM: an internship at her favorite radio station since childhood…and that’s about it. She has found all the ways to seclude herself from not just others- but from herself. The only thing that she lets in is music. When her radio role model, Lady Chanel, sees a glimpse of Danielle’s musical genius during the internship, she offers Danielle the opportunity of a lifetime: to audition to replace her as the next radio show host. Lacey and Tony , Danielle’s ride-or-dies, do everything to make sure Danielle follows her dream, and she does so with their meddling at every turn, with Lacey as her life coach to bring her out of her shell and Tony as her co-host for the auditions to support her along the way. Danielle is in for a wild ride when a slow brewing love, an online relationship, and past parental trauma comes into play. A ride she certainly tries to get off on every turn, as she is guided through learning to love herself and be confident in her beauty- inside and out. But what happens when the ride takes an unexpected twist?

PLAY ANOTHER LOVE SONG is a new adult romance full of growing pains that will sing to the hearts of everyone new to adulting or still have yet to figure it out, with the backdrop of Black 90's & 00's R&B, Soul, & Hip Hop references that every Millennial, Gen Z, and overall music lover can appreciate.

A ode to my greatest love: music 🎶

It was like Meisha wrote a book about me. As a lover of music and a radio personality, I felt seen on every page.

The connection that Danielle has with music and radio reflected my own. Besides the integration of music and radio, Danielle also goes on a self worth and self love journey with the help of her friends, Lacey and Tony.

Let me tell you Lacey and Tony are my kind of people. They don’t judge Danielle for how she has to operate in the world. However, they do help her out of her shell.

The amount of women supporting women in this book filled my heart with so much joy, especially when it comes from other women radio personalities.

If you love music and want to read a beautiful journey to seeing all of the greatness within a person (and maybe even yourself), please read this book.

Main character, Danielle Johnson, is a Black woman, music lover, communications major, socially anxious recent college grad, and she unexpectedly has an opportunity to be a radio DJ—her literal dream. I enjoyed following Danielle’s growth trajectory through this unique plot; Danielle is a character you can’t help but root for!

I appreciate that PALS manages to confront mental health struggles in the Black community, while simultaneously lifting up Black joy, love, and excellence.

Thank you, Meisha, for writing this world *and* for the playlists!

I was able to receive an advanced reader copy of this book and I loved it. I also bought the ebook and Have since re-read the book. PALS is so a great book for not only a book lover, but also a music lovers.

It follows Danielle Johnson who is an inspiring radio talk show host who has a love for music and it follows her and she navigates love, music, and friendship. Her best friends Lacey and Tony also play a big part of Dani story and it was a book I just didn’t want to let down.

I hope her friends get a book in the future.

This was a great read. I loved all the music and how it is life. Danielle really took me on a familiar journey. One big takeaway I got from this book is to face your past so it won't ruin your future.

I can't wait to read book 2 and see what more this group of friends will go through.

I wanted more for Danielle because she went through a-lot dealing with her own mental health issues and it interfering with her life. Then her mom treating her badly. Im happy that she was able to become a radio host and had a good mentor. It was unfortunate what happened between her, Lacey and Tony but I'm happy she forgave them and started to live her life. The whole catfish part was interesting but i knew it was Tony all along. Im glad they got together in the end. It shows that love can conquer all. It was a great book to read.

Needs Work

I can definitely see what the author was trying to do with this story. Unfortunately, the execution needed some adjustments. The actual writing wasn’t very polished. It felt like a rough draft at times. I was distracted by the run-on sentences and the repetitive wording. I struggled with Danielle and her self deprecating thoughts. That made it hard for me to connect with her. I was glad to see her work at fighting her demons. That made her character a lot more likable. This book attempted to pay homage to the 90s Black rom-com era. I can appreciate that gesture. I just wish that it had been presented better.

Seems more like a self love novel than a romance one. Nothing wrong with that but it’s promoted as a romance novel with barely any romance in it…

Danielle sometimes acted like a child (literally not figuratively) and it got annoying

I knew Tony was the IG secret admirer but I wasn’t expecting it to be in a catfishing way. More like a I didn’t know to tell you I liked you kind of way.

I’m glad Danielle was able to forgive her mom although her disorder doesn’t excuse the way she treated her in my opinion.

This book was so good! The twists and turns in the last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat, yelling at the characters myself! Great read for people battling imposter syndrome or insecurity. I think every reader can find ways to connect to the main character.

The cover is SO PRETTY!!!

Danielle's persistent self doubt and her trying to avoid most social interactions while also trying not to seem rude why is that soooo me. Her best friends Lacy and Tony were funny and charming side characters I LOL'd at a lot of their dialogue.

Some of the bombs dropped during Danielle's conversation with her mother felt kind of glossed over, if the book was longer I would have liked to see her address everything in more depth and how it impacted her moving forward considering the heaviness and shock of it.

The ending was sweet, I enjoyed the book!
