I’m not looking for a beast, a bad boy, or a football player, but he found me. Turns out he’s playing for keeps...and I'm not sure I mind after all.
Everly I’m not ashamed to say that I’m a romantic at heart and expected my marriage to be everything I’d dreamed of. Turns out my ex was a toad and not the kind that turns into a prince with a kiss.
After fleeing that ordeal, it wasn’t only my heart that needed healing. A job with insurance wasn’t enough and I did something to cover my treatment that makes me feel guilty every day. But I’m still alive and kicking, so that’s a plus.
When I start work as an etiquette coach, my first client looks like a Viking—and acts like one too—then I uncover more than one secret that connects our pasts but also threatens to ruin the present.
Grey I wasn’t always the strong silent type, but it’s easier to keep quiet so I remain in control. That helps on the football field, but not when the commissioner’s response to a poorly timed prank is worse than a tackle.
A sunshine-all-the-time life coach tries to tame and transform me, but no way am I letting her question the cage in my chest. That’s out of bounds. But I catch feelings anyway and there’s no playbook for how to handle hearts.
When her ex threatens her with blackmail, let’s just say I consult my cheat sheet and show him who wears the championship ring. While things cool off, we retreat to my lakeside cabin, but whenever she and I are in the same room together, the space between us seems to heat up.
What started as a personal relations recovery program veers toward relationship territory, but can we each soften our hearts?

“Don’t even get me started about how grumpy, gruff, and grouchy he is. He could be holding a baby, surrounded by puppies, and eating ice cream and he’d still have a scowl on his face.”
This newest addition to The Love List Series was so much fun! It’s grumpy/sunshine with a Beauty and the Beast vibe that I always enjoy, but it also has depth as some serious topics are included in the storyline.
Grey and Everly’s story is sweet and charming. They’ve both been through some really hard life experiences, and I loved how they helped and supported each other through everything.
Things I loved— 💋 Marriage of convenience 💋 Cookie dough 💋 Thankful three 💋 Grey being protective 💋 Kissituation 💋 Age gap 💋 Sonny 💋 Face it ‘til you ace it 💋 Positive body image w/mastectomy 💋 Light faith element 💋 Epilogue
This is a super cute and fun series, and each book can be read as a standalone.
Many thanks to the author for an eARC! All opinions are my own. ❤️
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Everly & Grey’s points of view
– there is an age gap of about 10 years between them
– Everly had breast cancer (but is healing & cancer free during the events in the book) & chose not to have reconstructive surgery
– Everly deals with her horrible, manipulative, & domineering ex-fiancé
– Grey’s brother is in the military & is MIA, but presumed KIA by his family (so they grieve the loss throughout the story)
Review:
I loved reading this story! I don’t think I’ve read a marriage of convenience where the marriage happened prior to the start of the story before and it made things quite interesting! I loved the grumpy/sunshine dynamic between Everly and Grey and how it was difficult for Everly to pull anything out of Grey before he decided to let her. I loved that his gruff demeanor hid so much (which we got to see when we read from his point of view!). I adored Grey’s extended family & the older ladies that his mom hung out with. I also loved Everly’s unexpected friend from her flight into Concordia and their conversations. Some of my favorite moments/scenes in this book included: Everly trying to make Grey smile or talk to her, ordering breakfast, Sonny, Grey coming to the rescue, time together at the cabin, and running into each other late at night.
Summary:
Everly has had her ups and downs with trying to please the people she cares for in her life while still maintaining her own values, including with the man she was about to marry before everything went haywire. Let’s just say, she dodged a bullet with that one, but this bullet keeps coming back to haunt her despite her repeatedly telling him to leave her alone. In an effort to get away from her ex and start a new life post cancer, Everly moves to Concordia to be an etiquette coach. But she never would have expected that her first client would also be the man who stepped up to marry her in order to share his insurance with her. And with her surgery & recovery having happened not too long ago, they are still bound together in their marriage of convenience…
Grey is the oldest player for the Boston Bruisers, so he should know better than to have participated in their most recent stunt. But since he started the tradition of initiating new players, Grey felt the need to see it through. If only it had been confined to that player and not a slew of unexpected sight-seers that have sway over their standing in the team. Now Grey and the other players who participated in the prank have to go to etiquette school and learn to be proper gentlemen or be booted off the team. Coach also adds on that during their time away, they can’t date or see women romantically unless they plan on meeting them at the altar. If only coach & Grey knew that the woman to catch Grey’s grumpy gaze would be the same woman he already married in order to help her out, also known now as his etiquette coach. But despite the growing chemistry, Grey is hiding something from his wife. Something big enough that it is already changing his life, but could affect hers as well…
This plot started strong from the beginning! It was definitely something else how they came to be together & all the "MoCC".
Grey was definitely Sir Grumps-a-lot😂. That man had more grunts & growls than words. He was such a complex character, w/so many layers of hurt & grief. I loved when he started to open up.
🛶 Need her? Not likely. Want her? No comment. But I can’t have her. Never. Not even if we’re married. 🛶
His nickname for her was the sweetest 🥺😍. I loved our Viking in the "hands off her" moment🔥. He let her fight her battle , & only stepped up when it was necessary. I loved how he supported & protected her.
Grey & Sonny were so precious 🥺. Yes, Grey could've handled that situation a little bit better, but I loved how he owned up to his mistakes & decided to be the best version he could be. He had a long road to change his self defense response.
This was a rollercoaster of emotions! When something went down & I was like noooo, please communicate! And then around the corner they would talk about it & try to fix it. It was amazing seeing them trusting each other, growing together & becoming a team.
Everly was so strong. She had been through so much & still she chose to be a source of light & kindness. How she handled every single thing thrown at her was such a boss move. I was also surprised how quick she was to forgive & move on when things mattered. As always, God was the force & center of their life and I was so here for it.♥️
Their chemistry was on point. They were truly like Beauty & the Beast. Their kiss 🔥 I felt like it took forever for them to do it! But the timing here was key!
I loved the last chapters! The time at the cabin was pivotal in this plot. I just loved to see them spending lots of time together & bonding. The epilogue was really sweet. These two didn't follow the traditional pattern in relationships, and that made their story truly unique. I'm excited to read the next book in the series!
⚠️TW: breast cancer; loss of a loved one; cheating & manipulative partner (not MC); neglecting parent.
♥️ * I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*
Still reeling from a recent breast cancer diagnosis, Everly LeFevre was stunned again when her cheating fiance's mistress showed up at the church on their wedding day and tried to convince him to marry her instead. She fled to her best friend Heidi's home in Michigan but was left with no way to pay for her treatments after her wealthy father cut her off and her ex cleaned out their joint bank accounts. Desperate to get her friend the help she needed, Heidi arranged for Everly to meet her older brother's best friend, professional football player Grey Adams, who agreed to marry her and add her to his health insurance that same day. They haven't seen or spoken to each other since their wedding, but the memory of the kiss they shared after being pronounced man and wife has stuck with them both.
Six months later, Everly is thrilled to be cancer free and starting a new job as an etiquette coach at Blancbourg Academy d'Etiquette in Concordia, a small island nation north of England. She's in for yet another shock when she arrives, however; her first client is none other than Grey. He's been sent to Blancbourg along with several of his Boston Bruiser teammates to clean up their acts following a prank gone horribly wrong. Unbeknownst to his friends, over the past few months Grey has been struggling with several issues in his personal life, and it turns out that Everly may just be the perfect person to help. Is their marriage of convenience destined to become a true love match?
As someone who has battled breast cancer, I am more sensitive to the topic than most, but I loved how sensitively and compassionately the author dealt with it in this story. I particularly appreciated that she acknowledged Everly's issues with accepting how her body had changed after surgery, which is an aspect that often seems to be ignored. At the same time, I loved that the overall tone of the story remained relatively light and fun despite the heaviness of some of the topics addressed. For example, the various Fight Club references made me laugh, and I also enjoyed Everly and Grey's witty banter. They had such a strong connection, and after everything they'd been through both individually and as a couple, their HEA was especially sweet.
Overall, this story gave me all the feels and I highly recommend it for fans of sweet/closed-door contemporary romance. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Tropes: grumpy x sunshine, fake relationship, one bed, opposites attract, forced proximity, return to hometown, friends-to-lovers, small town, sports romance, marriage of convenience, surprise child
TW: Grief, Soldier MIA, Deceit, Cheating, Parental Abandonment, Blackmail, Theft, Breast Cancer
Everly is an absolute ray of sunshine on a cloudy rainy day. She makes everything better no matter the circumstances. She has had a rough go of things with her ex, her father and then her health. Having any kind of health even can be taxing, but even more so when you have NOTHING. Family isn't anywhere to be found because they are deceased or just uninterested, and your ex stole everything from you financially. Thank goodness for friends at her support group that became her support system and helped her meet her one day husband and love of her life.
Greyson is a Grump to all grumps. He is an anger ball waiting to detonate at any second. He carries so much on his shoulders and in his mind it's hard for him to see what he has in front of him. But he works hard to make sure he gets to know Everly and what he could have. Learning that he will get Sonny, is only a kick in the booty to get him to be more honest with not just himself but Everly as well.
I absolutely loved Sonny and his sweet disposition in everything. It melted my heart when he called Everly Mama. I know the feeling of meeting a little one like that and it doesn't always turn out so well. But I absolutely loved his sweetness. He was just a little angel.
I love the wholesomeness of this whole series, and this was just the last dollop of icing needed before the finishing touches on a cake.
I loved this story and again I am amazed at the changes and additions to this story to make this revision spark with life. If you wonder if it's worth it to get this updated revised story, you won't go wrong reading it. I loved the interaction of all of the football players especially at the First Annual Bruisers Fundraiser Ball. The books can be read in any order and each one works as a stand alone story. Each book starts off in a similar way as the players plan to prank their new team mate. When their prank goes horribly wrong they are all off to Etiquette School as a punishment. Each football player has a personal coach to change them into polite gentlemen. What I also really enjoy is that the chapters switch from the H and h perspectives.
In this story our Etiquette Coach is Everly, the daughter of a former Hockey player who is now a high powered business owner. Her mother died when she was very young and she has lived her life to get her father's attention. When he set her up with an arranged marriage to Todd, she went along hoping to finally gain her father's approval. When she discovered that Todd was cheating on her, she left him at the altar and then he made her life miserable taking everything she owned. With borrowed clothes she hopes for a fresh start in Concordia, using her life coaching skills. What she didn't expect was to have her student turn out to be the man who literally saved her life when he married her to give her health insurance. She only saw him at their wedding ceremony but she has never forgotten the kiss they shared after their vows.
Our football student is Greyson Adams and he is the old timer on the football team. His life has been changed since he got word that his brother was MIA. He walks around in a black cloud, so having a life coach that is like sunshine all of the time is challenging to him. I laughed out loud at his verbal skills which are a series of grunts. Everly thought he looked like a huge Viking with his size, bushy hair and beard. It wasn't until his makeover that she could actually see how handsome he was. Grey may look intimidating but his is a true protector at heart. That's why, when he found out Everly was in need of health insurance, he stepped in to marry her. The plan was for a short term marriage but now as he gets to find out more and more about his wife, he would like to change the terms of their agreement.
There is so much in this story as surprises keep popping up. Grey will have to protect her from her fiance that keeps harassing her. She will step in to help Grey with a situation he is facing.
Will these two make it through their Etiquette Classes and decide to have a permanent marriage?
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Two people heading to a future full of surprises What a fun book. Grey is a professional football player who is known for being withdrawn and moody but lately it has been even worse. After a prank goes wrong he is sent, with three team mates, to a school teaching etiquette to help them improve their image. No one is happy to go, especially Grey. He is dealing with too much. He is struggling with the idea of retiring, his lawyer is dealing with a personal problem he’s facing, and his older brother, a special ops pilot has been MIA for months, but he has no choice so he heads to the training. Everly is cancer free but only because of the kindness of a stranger who married her as a favor to a friend’s sister to allow Everly to have excellent insurance benefits. Everly is so very grateful to the man who looked like a Viking, kissed like no one else, and was willing to marry her without knowing more than that she needed insurance. She never expected to see him again. Now she is heading to Concordia to work at a school teaching etiquette leaving behind her past life that had exploded first when she caught her groom kissing another woman minutes before the ceremony, and then with the diagnosis. After running from the wedding, she feels she can’t even call on her father. But new beginnings for both Grey and Everly are nothing like they imagined and as complicated as the lives they’re leaving behind. An excellent read. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
Everly is the newest coach at the Blancbourg Academy d’Etiquette. After a life-altering medical diagnosis, she ditches her no-good fiance, and hopes to restart her life. Until she starts her new job she has no finances and no health insurance. Desperation leads to drastic measures. When she finally arrives in Concordia she realizes that her new “student” is the one man who knows her secret.
The Kiss List is the fourth installment of The Love List series. I highly suggest reading the books of the series in order rather than reading them as stand-alones. The books all start with one overlapping event and then continue into their own stories. This grumpy/sunshine romance is spice-free but it still has plenty of sweet and swoony moments.
The plot to this one is a little meatier than the other books so far in the series. It starts with the same event that sends the football team to etiquette training. Both of the MCs have heavier back stories than the other players and coaches have had. Everything ties up well in the end but I feel like there may have been one or two too many side stories. I did enjoy the unique storyline. I appreciate the sensitive but realistic way in which Everly’s health and outlook are discussed.
I’m glad we’re getting one more book in this series. I can’t wait to see how everything concludes. I hope we’ll get to see a glimpse of each of the MCs from the different books in the end.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
These Boston Bruisers (football team) have been so fun to follow as we get each of their perspectives on getting sent to reform school. Grey has been a moody mystery and unraveling his story with a marriage of convenience where he and Everly both have gone through the fire, and come out helping each other had so many more layers than I expected!
Things I Loved: -Thankful Three -Goodie -Marriage of Convenience Club -The Kiss List -Kissituation -The hug -Buttercup -Sonny -“I’m afraid that I’m falling...and if he doesn’t say something soon, it’ll be smack dab on my non-Bruiser-butt.” -PS ladies -Happily Everly After (so cute!) -The Epilogue ♥️
Once again, the light faith elements represented in this series has been refreshing. And although this story tackles heavier themes, you still get plenty of laughs and swoony moments. I really love how everything ended and getting to see the Bruiser Ball play out.
Trigger Warning: The FMC has just completed treatment for breast cancer and is in remission. Her ex is manipulative & a cheater. MMC is dealing with the loss of a close relative & a custody situation. The story remains light overall.
Thank you @elliehallauthor for an early copy of The Kiss List. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. 🤍
I am enjoying each Bruiser story so far, and I especially found The Kiss List the most intriguing and funniest out of all released so far. Having a wide scope of verbal communication that consists mainly of grunts, Grey’s character was very mysterious for me as he seems intimidating and doesn’t really give anything away, and this novel gave insight as to why he is how he is.
I also enjoyed how both Everly and Grey, despite already being married, fell for each other and really, I loved how Grey is protective of her when she’s threatened by her ex.
Rating The Kiss List ⭐⭐⭐⭐ .5/5. Releases June 15th, 2023!
The principle of this book (and in fact the whole series) is outrageously unbelievable, but sometimes that's just what you're looking for in a read. So, if you can put that aside and manage to suspend your disbelief, it's a fun read. It touches on deeper subjects, but I didn't feel like it went too in depth. That's probably what kept me from rating it 5 stars. While I do understand it is marketed to a YA audience, I still think that those deeper subjects are going to be key points in a book, they should be more thoroughly explored. It felt like at times they were brushed over. Conversely, kudos to the author for tackling tearjerker subjects and managing to keep it light and PG-13.
Everly and Grey agree to a secret marriage of convenience. They don't tell each other the reasons why and even when they meet up again at charm school she keeps brushing him off from talking about it and later gets angry with him that he has a child he didn't tell her about. Grey was rather closed off because of what happened to his brother. They have so many communication issues including is the marriage fake or real. So many bad things happen to Everly and she is way too fanciful about it. It was a romantic comedy but it seemed a little silly at times especially when her ex is hounding her. There were some interesting connections in the book. I loved precocious little Sonny and his love of blueberries.
Huzzah!! We finally got Grey’s story and it was definitely worth waiting for 🎉 I loved how Ellie combined Marriage of Convenience and Second Chance Romance into a beautiful story of finding the family they didn’t know they needed. It had so much depth including brokenness that had to overcome and it was marvelous how everything was woven together. Plus there was plenty of slow burn and swoony moments to elevate the story to one of my favorites of the year. I won’t give any spoilers but suffice to say, this book NEEDS to be on your TBR because it is just so wonderful. I’m positive you’ll love it too.
I received a complimentary ARC of this story from the author via BookFunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
I absolutely adored Grey's growth in this book. It was so funny to see him open up, soften, and become a safe place for those close to him.
His struggle with depression and dealing with everything in his life is relatable. So it felt so hopeful to read about him finding love, happiness, and the brightness in the world again.
Not to mention Everly and her amazingness. I love her steady joy and positivity. She's been through the ringer and has come out stronger. Seeing her find joy in small things reminded me to do that too.
I have enjoyed the entire series and the concept of the stories happening at the same time has been so much fun! This story though, wow!! Everly finds herself in an unbelievable predicament with her no wedding wedding and then her health scare. And Grey, his life is full of so much turmoil. This was my favorite story and their HEA did beyond swoon worthy! There were heavy topics in this one that were played out so well to keep the story sweet and meaningful. I don’t often read books over, but this one I can see myself re-reading.
I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ellie’s sense of humor sparkles throughout this series and is on target in this one. #BostonButts anyone? Throughout the chaos of Everly’s life are two constants, the Viking that rescues her and Todd who harasses her (along with his side piece). She just doesn’t expect the Viking to reappear. Grey, with his whole symphony of grunts, is living a shell of a life and only feels alive when he’s around Everly and her sunshiny personality. His son is a bonus to all of this. The side characters add fun and depth to the story-from Manimal to the Ice King. Even though it can bee a standalone, it’s more fun to read the series. Clean.
Wow! This one is Unique! And awesome! It's crazy how everything "works out" in the end, but I gotta say...the food fight was over the top and unnecessary. I get that the Bruises have a reputation to uphold, but it would have been funnier if other guys on the team created their own version of "moon-gate." Because of Everly's cancer experience, I would have liked at least a peek into Grey's treatment of Everly's self-consciousness the first time they were intimate. Not details about the "dirty" stuff; just how amazing Grey is with the insecurities of his beloved wife.
Romance, sweet, contemporary; series but stand alone read Grey and Everly's marriage of convenience is a sweet romantic fall novel. Sweet, caring, he's a bit of a beast, and he protects her from the wolf that is her former fiance. His gorgeous cabin is the home and castle, isolated, and beautiful. All their misunderstandings, worries and fears along with Everly's joy hope, light, and happiness turn Grey's life into what it is meant to be, joyous, along with successful. Sweet, fun read.
Everly and Grey have history. Now he's at etiquette school, and she's his coach. It's a wonderful story of overcoming horrific circumstances and being able to rise above them, but together. There are so many surprises in this book, and I have been unable to stop reading until I finished it in the wee hours of the morning. I loved all of it except for the hurtful exes, but even they played significant parts in the happily ever after. Beauty tames the beast, and the book ends on a high note.
I really enjoyed Greyson and Everly's story Grey did not expect his etiquette coach to be the woman he had done a good deed for months earlier and never expected to see again. Grey's life is imploding and Everly is an unexpected shining light for him, especially after his protective instincts kick in when she is threatened. Both of their pasts mix unexpectedly with their present. I liked both the main characters and their unconventional romance.
Everly and Grey are realistic and well developed characters. The plot and storyline are planned and executed well. The Kiss List grabbed my attention and kept it all the way through. I was interested to find out how everything would work out. If you like marriage of convenience, secret baby, or grumpy/sunshine stories, with a happily ever after read the kiss list. And don’t forget the kissituation.
Marriage of Convience Sunshine/Grumpy Faking it Single dads Reunited family Grab this book!! I loved the Kissituation. The misplaced luggage. The Cookie Dough Diary. Kissy dough. "Face it 'til you ace it". Lingering hugs. The Kiss List pros. All the nicknames 😍. Dessert for breakfast and lunch. Grey's grumpy protection. Everly's sunshine personality. The Bruiser's Charity Ball and food fighting. The Happily Everly After ❤️ TW: breast cancer, mastectomy
A bit backwards starting at the end of the book for my review, but I’m just so excited that we got to finally see the Ball that is referenced in every book. And, wow, was that climactic! Another lovely tale in this coach / student romance series. I liked the marriage of convenience and secret baby angles. I also enjoyed the tension from her ex.
I loved this one-my favorite of the series❤️ Grumpy/Sunshine, hugs (hugs are just the best) and a fun plot twist (that I’m not spoiling). Everly & Grey are adorable🥰 They’ve got their issues to work through-she’s recovering from cancer and they’re both bruised from some really bad exes. I loved watching them get their happily ever after 🤍
Loved Everly and Greys story! Marriage of convenience, single dad and grumpy sunshine! This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
I enjoyed every second and finished it in one day. Love all of Ellie’s books!
Fantastic story that's well written. You have a grumpy quarter back who seems to look like a viking and a very optimistic cheerful etiquette coach both with secrets. Surprises and unexpected twists happen throughout the story. The characters are likeable and the story is great. Humor is mixed in beautifully with the romance. Reads best with the series.
This was a very interesting take on the marry for _____ and then fall in love trope. I love how he’s completely fine with taking her how she is and dealing with her breast cancer. I love Sonny and I was surprised by how things worked out!
Grayson and everly two great characters and then comes the little guy holy crap so adorable this book had everything I wanted in it. It had hot guys spunky gals and a touch of little people lots of romance.
