They’re Back! Sometimes You Should Be Afraid of the Dark A child is dragged kicking and screaming into the wilderness. Livestock is brutally butchered. Pets vanish without a trace. Something is terrorizing Parkland. That “something” is a pack of wolves, residents believe. The most persecuted and misunderstood animals in history, wolves had not lived in this area of Missouri for more than a century. But just a few weeks before Christmas, they are back. Only Richard, Bonnie, and Thomas believe the wolves are not to blame. They join forces to speak out for the animals that cannot speak for themselves and find out the truth behind the reign of terror. In a unique twist, wolves are the main characters in several of the chapters, as they hunt, court, explore their new surroundings, and care for one another. Ultimately, the man who champions the wolves is, in turn, saved by the pack that adopts him as one of its own. This fast-paced eco-thriller is seasoned with mystery, romance, and humor, as well as a sprinkle of Native American mysticism and the supernatural.
Listen To The Howl Of The Wolves—They Speak Enchantments
For those who love a fast-paced action-packed mystery steeped in the enigma of the universal consciousness, this book delivers. In the vein of Jack London’s Call Of The Wild, author Robert Montgomery takes the reader inside the mind and spirit of the wolf, both the majestic American Canis and its human antithesis, the fierce, cruel, and greedy minds and spirits of those who wish to destroy them. My favourite line in the book was, “If we lose the wilderness, we lose the world,” said by teacher, Bonnie Simmons, Montgomery’s female protagonist, who hooks up with widower and newspaper journalist, Richard Usher, to solve an inscrutable puzzle of many dimensions, a complex conspiracy that plots corporate and political evil and greed against advocates of the wolf and the Wolf Reintroduction Program. And just as mated wolves remain together for life, grieving Richard, too, discovers a reason to go on in life with his new mate Bonnie. In the way of master storytellers, Robert Montgomery describes a world of violent realism combined with the magic and wonder of nature. From the moment I began reading this tale, I often found myself in the forests of the mountains, howling with the wolves, and then abruptly slammed back into reality, howling even louder at their many hostile adversaries. Montgomery manages to bring into being a cast of true-to-life characters such as few writers are capable of creating. Every character has a story, and each of these stories becomes integral to his imaginative plot line. Adventure, suspense, romance, action, and mystical esoteric magic––this book has it all. A highly recommended read.
I enjoyed this book. Hated to put it down at night, but I had to sleep. If you like wolves or nature in general, you need to read this book. The characters are well written and the story line is exciting.
This story is like a fun, scary fairytale for adults--- with wolves. It reminded me of a Dean Koontz novel, combining a classic good versus evil conflict with humor, romance, mysticism, and a hint of the supernatural. Highly recommended!
