It all started from Jabalpur, where a boy was fascinated with telecommunication and electronics and was determined to become an engineer. Over the next four decades his contribution to technology will shape a major chunk of India's technologcal growth with HCL becoming one of the largest IT companies in India. Engineer, entrepreneur, sportsman, salesman, investor, educationist, book connoisseur and music aficionado, Ajai Chowdhry, the HCL confounder who dons many hats, all with equal ease. 'Just Aspire' is his flashback to memory lane where he takes us through a journey of dream, passion, aspirations and goals.
'Just Aspire' is a nonfiction, autobiography by the cofounder of HCL. The book brings us to the formative years, slowly narrating the story when HCL was in nascent stage and meticulously driving us through the tech revolution. This memoir contains plethora of good memories, knowledge and information, from early childhood to forming great relationships with companies like Microsoft, Kodak and many more. I found some amazing points and information revolving around renowned companies, like the brand name Kodak holds no meaning. The founder made it up because he likes the letter K. It delivers powerful motivational boost with loads of lessons. Another thing I liked about the author is that he is also a reader and enjoys fiction as much as he enjoys non fiction.
Although the work seems close and intimate with bits of information about family, relationship and hobbies peppered throughout the book, the writing was monotonous for me. One thing lacking in this book is guidance for young generation, there's no specific takeaways from chapters that can be implemented in life. Though it was interesting to read about such a great personality. Recommended to autobiography readers.

This was the second biography I picked up for this year and I think I am now developing a love for this segment too. The book is an autobiography by Ajai Chowdhary sir - Co-founder of HCL. You know how people say that we should spend more time with our grandparents because they have so much experience and knowledge, this book felt like one. In this book I got to learn from the experience of a CEO.
What I loved about this book was it doesn't include only success mantra but includes the hardships and way outs. The success is shown in single paragraph whereas the failures are elaborated. We get to learn from the mistakes and experiments of HCL as an organization. I resonate with his basic mantra of life to never let go of his passion - may it be music or NASA or electronics. I never thought that an inclination to NASA can be so useful in HCL as well. That made me think that business is never confined to one aspect. Another important lesson was a great team. Sales are important and having an excellent sales team is even more important. Drive them with innovation and passion and you will see definite results.
So the book is full of these small learning along with experiences written in a simple English which binds the reader. In spite of being a fiction reader, I loved this book because it includes stories from sir's life which are captivating. He takes difficult decisions and then gives his 100% to make them work. There are a lot of technical terms used and being a person from commercial background I was not able to understand them completely but still I enjoyed the business part. Now when people around me would talk about technicalities I will definitely have some inputs. Being updated and keeping a focus on reading and updating is what I implemented instantly. Amazing work. If you are looking to pick up a business lesson biography, this is the one you can go with.

I always used to think that Shiv Nadar is the only face of HCL but this book not only made me know about author's contribution in company but also took me to witness an amazing journey of a small child from normal background living his every dream.
This book is memoir of Ajai Chowdhry that not only made me explore more in various fields but also taught me the value of time management, punctuality, dedication, and hardwork.
He disciplined his life that made him capable of doing such a big contribution for the future generations.
For me so many things were new and some were very confusing but gladly my brother helped me to understand like the part of ODI strategy.
For me it is a one time read. I feel like book couldn't hold my attention for long sittings.
But I'm happy as I got a chance to learn something new.
I appreciate how author added so many stories from time to time making this read more effective. I like how he wrote for his family. His bonding with his father. He penned his successes and so many of his failures. He talks about his fear and challanges that he faced in his journey. I love the section with the contribution of their team in COVID times. I'm so happy to get a chance to read this book.

Just Aspire, as the name suggests, is a highly inspiring biographical tale of the author as he traces his journey into the dynamic world of technology and innovation. Full disclosure, I started reading this book because it screamed motivation infused with random but invaluable bouts of knowledge. Of course, it was all that and yet, it was so much more. At the heart of the carefully chosen words lies the thoughts of a man who is passionate and learned. Through this book, the author has tried to imbibe in the masses the understanding of technology, while also outlining an entrepreneurial view.
I have nothing but the sincerest admiration for the author’s passion towards making our country technologically savvy. Infused with real-life anecdotes and relatable examples, this book quickly took over my life and soul. The author, with incredible candidness, has managed to create a book that resonates with the masses and will make exponentially more aware about a dynamic topics like technology and entrepreneurship.
I would highly recommend this book to all the literary enthusiasts who have a vested interest in these areas. Afterall, “Progress is predicted on insights gained from pathfinders, and it is important to acknowledge their contributions.”

Over the years I have read plenty of books on leadership. One common feature I observed among all the successful leaders is their quest for learning something new. They strongly believe that it's their wisdom that has earned them all the respect and success in life & going ahead that's not going to change. It's their knowledge & eagerness to learn more every single day even from the smallest of the events brought them all the accolades. Successful leaders try to pass on their wisdom to the next generation. When it comes to learning they don't just limit themselves to their working domain. Instead they widen their boundary as much as possible so that they can help more people to grow. Recently I read about one such veteran leader who strongly believed that lifelong learning is key to all of one's aspirations. He never stopped learning new things. Hence he kept on succeeding in whatever ventures he got engaged with.Today we will talk about one such inspirational leader who seems to be on an endless journey of wisdom.
Just Aspire written by Ajai Chowdhry, co-founder of eminent tech firm HCL is not just another autobiography or memoir, rather is an appropriate account of lifelong learning of new skills & utilising them for the betterment of mankind. From start to end one aspect of the author that amused me completely is his vast knowledge in different spheres of life. Apart from being a successful entrepreneur & an enthusiastic tech evangelist, he has been an obedient son, caring husband & father like many of his contemporaries. But what sets him apart is how he has contributed to various projects that he got involved with outside his domain of work. His never ending urge to learn brought several opportunities where he could contribute towards a real transformation.
Once you read the introduction chapter of this book you will realise why I have been emphasising so much on wisdom part. I was spellbound after reading that chapter & very well realised that the further chapters are going to be no different. Without elaborating too much on what the introductory chapter contains I would like to go ahead with further interesting aspects of the book. Initial chapters include Ajai's childhood, some very fond memories of school & college days, beginning of a professional as well as married life. Quite a few interesting narrations can be found about his personal life in the book. But as the narration progresses it majorly focuses on his professional achievements & major takeaways from an inspirational career which is still going strong.
This is also not a complete account of HCL's journey from scratch to top. Major proceedings in HCL's journey have found a place in the book along with several roadblocks that came in between & also the substantial success that HCL achieved. At the same time the author has tried to elaborate on various initiatives taken for the progress of the organization or industry and the rationale behind them. Throughout the chapters you will get to know in an illustrious career span of several decades he has been involved in so many projects, been a member of few government task forces & also contributed to the causes that he cared for.

JUST ASPIRE- Notes on Technology, Entrepreneurship and the Future.
This 223 pg memoir was one roller-coaster ride to read & I enjoyed it thoroughly & I would recommend it to readers who are more inclined towards business management/ studies, entrepreneurship & technological themes. This book encapsulates everything from the childhood of the author, how filmy he was & how he tried to replicate his favorite, Dev Anand to his entrepreneurial dreams, about his family especially his father & his stature, his marriage and his entrepreneurial ups & downs and most of all about his childhood friends cum business partners. Some friendships are bound to last a lifetime.
The section on how technology driven the author was since his childhood days and how multi- talented he was, having wide and varied interests, was very interesting to know. He says, never let your aspirations die or your passions dim, for they are the soul of entrepreneurship. Also have passions outside the job, to stop learning is to stop living. He was always an avid reader & believed in 'reading your blues away'. He said, he read for both pleasure & work. Also he had pen friends & did snail mail. The vocabulary used is pretty rich but the meanings are comprehendable from the context in which they are used.
The chapter, coming of age, was my favourite as it got me nostalgic. The stories, anecdotes have quite a handful of underlying life/ entrepreneurial lessons like;
- present the product as the solution. Focus on the benefits, not on the attributes.
- name has power, and a logo is a visual connect with customers.
- be restless.
- building relationships is good for business, because it ensures your venture's sustainability.
In the later half of the book, he has imparted his learnings under three sections,
Entrepreneurship,
Salesmanship
&
People Management.

He emphasizes the importance of having a clear vision, being forward-thinking, and having a strong sense of purpose, as well as the need to embrace change and adapt to new technologies and market developments.

Although I didn't understand many technical terms used for a tech company and its operations, I could understand the author's notes on business. Non-fictions have always been the last one on my rack but the ones with great narratives is truly a steal deal. Everything the author has achieved throughout his journey of life is because of the small word ‘dream’. It is truly said that when the mind is ready, the body is ready to hit the target. Coming over to the context of the book, highly fueled by the author’s passion which he never let to dim and his aspirations which found a habitat in the author’s will power. It is more of his journey and how things fall in place for him despite the obstacles. There’s one thing for sure, every idea is bagged by a situation, the situation was to make India more tech oriented and which gave birth to the author’s will and his idea to explore. There are many situations and circumstances which form a part of the author’s life and one thing which is purely evident is his attitude to never give up on his dreams. It is indeed very easy to quote having a never give up attitude but in reality it takes a toll on our will but going through the author’s journey where after each success the author decides to take up something new and his hope to expand more and his motto to revolutionize the IT world for India has driven his ideas to a completely different level. Coming to the narratives part, it is crisp to be very honest and it is more of having a face to face conversation with the author where he describes how things went for him. There are a bit of traces of his personal life incidents not related to his career and that has especially kept me hooked since when we know a person who has built something we want to know him inside out, how did he face difficulties, how did he face touch times and how was the decision making done, how was his personal life and it’s influence on his business or his career’s impact on his personal life. It is indeed a beautiful journey which every reader should embark on, this has really ignited the desire to build something within me, a highly motivating read!

We are very much familiar with the popular line, "The first impression is the last impression"- that's what this book's cover page is like! It gives me the true feelings of this line. It is very much attractive and eye pleasing and the title gives you a hint about the summary of the book.
This book got me hooked right from start and you just can't stop reading it unless you have finished it. Yes, non fictions can be interesting and intriguing too!
In this fast paced life, we all should give some time to nurture our spiritual quotient and our mental quotient. And all we need is a motivational force to drive our mind for becoming more and more productive by the day and this book definitely fulfills all that we need.

Just Aspire is the memoir of Ajai Chowdhry, the co-founder of HCL technologies. He narrates his life story starting from the time his family crossed the border during Partition — before he was born, to the many places they shifted to in his childhood, as part of his father’s work.
The book later shifts focus to the author leaving his high paying job to turn entrepreneur at a time when startups and entrepreneurship is an unknown concept, when Computers were not even part of dream for many households in India. From being founders to a startup to running it successfully for three decades is a long journey, a tough one at that, which requires dedication, hard work and above all the ability to take the right decisions, though risky ones, at the right time.
The author takes the reader through this journey while imparting valuable lessons on what entrepreneurship means, keeping up with ever evolving technologies and how to become successful and retain it. This is interestingly woven into the narrative while giving insights into his family life.

HCL ( Hindustan Computers Ltd) a company I mostly hear from my friends and seniors to join after their graduation. When I came to know about this book I was very curious to know about this person who is a Co-founder of HCL. And to my surprise this book is not just for entrepreneurs but for everyone who should know what makes people like him successful. I can say this is one of the best Non fiction books I've read so far.
Starting from his childhood he continued to tell his life he shared his life events in a very engaging manner , he successfully reached the reader's mind to fill them with abundant knowledge and inspiration from his life stories , work experiences and deep observation. From each and every page there is something to learn, something that is useful for all and especially for aspiring entrepreneurs.
I don't think that fiction readers don't like this book because to my opinion the way of storytelling is very lively and easily understandable which makes it more interesting to know further. When he says about someone say it's about political leader or his friends or his colleagues we can find able to get the complete picture of his thoughts and ideals about them very clearly.
It's a great privilege to read about this inspiring personality in his own words about life, work, companionship, determination and dreams that made him reach a position that many people aspire to be." When talking of dreams, his aim is not in his individual growth, but in the growth and prosperity of India as a whole in every aspect. Be it hardware or software or pharmaceutics or medicine or space technology, Ajai has this constant desire to make India the best in the world.
As we read this book of 16 chapters, we come to know of the technological developments in India. And his entrepreneurial skills are mind-boggling. He is a mentor, techie, nerd and music lover. The first half of the book talks about his journey right from childhood to leaving HCL as chairperson. In the next half, he takes hold of things he aspired to.
His predictions came true and I feel that the people who are mentored by him are lucky from what I have read. With gratitude, passion, and optimistic nature, he has succeeded in his ventures. The second half of the book is my favourite part of the book. His love for dogs is quite evident in his words.
I’m a pharmacy graduate, and even though I can barely understand the technical terms related to technology while reading this book, I can perceive the accomplishments of India that are brought forward by Ajai Chowdhry. While nearing the end of the book, it felt more like I'm reading his diary and that added much enthusiasm. The epilogue is quite promising and the number of books he has mentioned is not to be ignored.
His dream is every Indian’s success.

I have read many motivational books, both from foriegn authors and Indian authors. But I usually keep my hands away from an autobiography type of stuff. But this book by Ajai Chowdhary, the co founder of HCL (Hindustan Computers Limited), and also famous as 'Father of Indian Hardware', is a true inspirational story. As, I have worked with HCL earlier and hence that was also a point to learn about the one of the founders of HCL. The story starts from the school days of author and also talks about the author's travel to different places due to the transfers of his father. Ajai's love for books is shown and that is quite common among the book lovers to get to read about the others. Ajai completed his engineering and worked for short span of time with DCM Data products. Following it, he founded HCL with other co-founders, and helped HCL grow to a brand name that we can witness now in the market. It is one of the most popular and successful Indian IT company to date. Ajai also worked in making the global presence of HCL and played a major role in collaborations with different other IT majors in the world. The book gives multiple lessons to the readers about enterpreneurship, determination, hard work, salesmanship, marketing to name a few. Book is a must read for anyone in IT industry or who wants to get a deep insight into the enterpreneurial journey of Ajai Sir.

This book is the most gifted book of our time. Most gifted because it is being liked and is motivational for sure. Usually, every book gives you food for thought, and 'Just Aspire' gives you more than that. It is a book that contains both positive experiences and negative experiences of the author. The author being the co-founder of HCL (Hindustan Computers Limited) takes the hardships and failures to explain to us what one went through and how one can overcome the trials.
There are anecdotes that one can surely relate and connect to from this book. When usual autobiographies are too preachy this stays away from that model. This book is a clear-cut definition of how life is and should be, and how one needs to embrace life despite difficulties and challenges.

The Book - "Just Aspire" is divided into sixteen chapters, revolves around the life of the cofounder of HCL, a ten-billion-dollar corporation. He spend thirty-six years of his life helping to create business within HCL. The Books begins with his childhood days, when his father was the commissioner of Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand. His father like any other parents in India in the 1960s, wanted his sons to follow in his footsteps and join the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service. But Ajai was determined to become an engineer. With the completion of his graduation, he joined DCM Data Products as a sales executive but soon, in the 1970s, he quit DCM DP and founded HCL. From that point of time, his journey started to become one of the well-known figure in the world and HCL became one of the largest IT companies in India but it was not easy to be at top. This is the advice given by a person who started his journey as a small-town boy and became the CEO of a global company. He wore many hats – entrepreneur, sportsman, salesperson, engineer, educationalist, jazz fan, and consultant on population stability. His interdisciplinary mindset was one of the reasons for his success.
I am glad that I got to read this book. It was captivating, and I especially enjoyed reading about his childhood in Jabalpur.
The journey of his life and how he waded through the various situations which posed as a hurdle gives us both inspiration and life lessons that will help us maneuver through our path to success.
The photographs- both B&W and color give us a window peek into his life. Right from his parents to his achievements, articles in the paper, award ceremonies, grandkids, and even his pet, we get a glimpse into his world.
It must be noted that the author has not written a step-by-step guide to success but has shown the way to face the difficulties that may arise in the path of entrepreneurship. I found this to be more effective and it makes a lot more sense!
Through his words, we are able to feel his passion and how much he strived to reach the place where he is right now. Adaptation to changes, clear vision, diligence, not being deterred by the hitches on the way is what you can see throughout the pages.

Non fiction is a genre which I have always been scared of, so I have been wanting to challenge myself, read the blurb, got really curious, so picked this up.
Wow, this book was something, very refreshing like the personality of the author, which I could see layer by layer as I kept on reading. I was expecting conventional knowledge from the cumulation of his experiences, but it was unconventional, raw and real in its own way that I was hooked instantly. This book became an instant mood lifter.
Coming to knowledge, there were so many gems strewn along the way, which I got really inspired from. There were so many takeaways on business, entrepreneurship and salesmanship. There were a few highlights which were bonuses like his passion for music, books that made me connect to the author much more, and Ganguly part was a big bonus because I am a big fan of him.
This whole book was like reading through memory lane. I kept remembering my Dad throughout his book. Even though he is gone now, I was reminded of his love, passion and openness for oneself and others, which he always encouraged me to do the same. This book became an eyeopener for me. I am really thankful to the author for giving me such an amazing experience. Coming to hardware and India, I sincerely hope his vision comes true and I am willing to play a small part in helping him achieve them. I would recommend this book for anyone who needs a boost of energy to keep going despite the lows*wink*.

Each reader has a different way and taste of choosing the books they read. Someone will choose them based on the author they admire; some will do so randomly. Others prefer them based on the genre and mood they are currently in. Very few people choose nonfiction or self-motivating books. If you are one of them, then I’m sure this book won’t disappoint you.
The author of the book is the co-founder of HCL (Hindustan Computers Ltd.), and he is called the "Father of Hardware" in India. The author's three major milestones were in the IT industry (the PC revolution), mobile telephony, and system integration. The dream of Ajai was to give India its own microcomputers, which was not an easy thing to achieve, but indeed he succeeded.
Ajai's story creates a path for all the youngsters out there to achieve something in their lives. His story not only discusses HCL's success, but he made sure to leave a mark on everything, which helps to develop our self-confidence, increase our determination, and give us the courage to take risks.
The biggest lesson I took away from the book is that we can’t achieve anything just by thinking about it. Get down on the field and sow the very first seed, not thinking about the result. Keep working smart with the needed hard work; success will reach us at the right time. Everyone is capable enough to work on their dreams, and the entrepreneurial journey is always interesting.
