I want to thank Richard Villasana for writing this book! He sheds light on the problems of family separation and extends the conversation to the issues with the foster care system in the US.

As a former foster youth, I was pained to read about the statistics and examples Villasana shares. I haven't kept up to date on the details and horrors of the system I was fortunate enough to survive all those years ago. It's not surprising that things are still very dire for so many families.

But I LOVE how Richard shares the great work his nonprofit conducts to unite families. And I love the candor and tone of urgency he brings as he reminds us of ways we can help foster kids.

Villasana doesn't sugarcoat the big issues, and while it's hard to read about stark realities, ignoring them or glossing over them only hurts society. If we can help our kids (all kids) feel safe and loved, we are on our way to building a better, safer society.

A well-written, highly informative book that looks at the problems STILL facing children separated from parents at the U.S. border. Comprehensive, compassionate, and written with an underlying anger that these problems still exist. Plus a clear-eyed look at the problems in the foster care system. An outstanding reference for those who genuinely care about children and their welfare.
