Spencer Grant, a man who has just about everything: an excellent job, money, and good looks. He is a man confident in himself, almost to the point of arrogant and isn’t accustomed to hearing the word no. He lets very little intimidate him, especially the gorgeous gun toting detective, Caitlynne O’Malley. He wants her from the first moment he lays eyes on her.
Caitlynne, a good cop shot in the line of duty, is on the mend and a relationship is at the bottom of her to do list. The problem is that Spencer refuses to take no for an answer, and she can’t deny the hot passion they share.
Good cops have old enemies that seek vendettas that could cost the man she’s fallen in love with his only child. Is she a good enough cop to make everything right again? And at what cost to herself and the man she loves?

Ms. Barton has a never ending imagination when it comes to her books. This is one of many of the Grant Brother’s stories. This one is about Spencer. I fell in love with him for the wonderful man that was raising his daughter, Meggie on his own. Cait is a homicide detective that has saved Meggie from being hit by a vehicle. Meggie is deaf and didn’t hear it coming towards her. Spencer meets Cait at the hospital and finds out she has saved his daughter and is instantly drawn to her. She can’t resist the charms of Spencer in the least. She had been in the hospital herself after being shot and is now running for her life. She doesn’t want anyone involved in her life because she doesn’t want to put them in danger as well. It’s bad enough her Uncle Paddy and Aunt Dierdre are protecting her and helping her heal so she can go back and testify against the man that wants her dead. Is she strong enough to avoid the advances of Spencer? How can she avoid such a sweet little girl like Meggie? Is there enough love in her to keep those around her safe? Ms. Barton, you are wonderful. I can’t seem to get enough of your books and I know you have many more surprises up your sleeve for us readers. Thank you for another wonderful book.
Wow! Just WOW! `Sigh~ 'Spencer' is Kathi S. Barton's third book in her "The Grant Brothers" series and I have to say it was the best in the series so far! Even though Spencer has his moments of showing the Grant foot-in-mouth disease, he seems to be the most romantic and loving of the three so far. Caitlynne, aka Cait, is a homicide detective from the Chicago Police Department. A fellow officer tried killing her and her Aunt and Uncle brought her to Ohio to rest and recuperate and keep her in hiding. Of course, the Grant's become involved when she saves Spencer's daughter, and the rest of her pre-school class from being hit by a speeding truck while at the store and then this story takes off at a run. I only hope "Byron" is as good as this one.
Both the heroine in this book & Spencer called each other by their last names. She was always O’Malley (which unfortunately reminded me of George in Grey’s Anatomy; which I’ve been binge watching on Netflix) & she, Cait or Caitlynne Alexander O’Malley, as that is her full name was always calling Spencer & all of his brothers by their last name which is Grant.
This book was very good in the good vs bad plot, the gun fight scenes, the sex scenes & the family helping family portion of this book.
I tried but I just didn't fall I. Love this book..... I tried but I just didn't.... I can't say anything was wrong with the book,I enjoyed both the characters and the story and I'd love a sweet passionate man like Spencer of my very own more that words can say.... Spencer was strong and passionate ( I loved how easily everything seemed to melt away for him when he was her and she became his sole focus.. Either his need to have her or just listening to what she had to say) a bit hot headed at times but seemingly quick to calm and see the error of his judgements and not embarrassed to beg when needed and was afraid to show his fear or hurt with tears.... An awesome and amazing package and being sexy and yummy on top of it all ? Wow just Wow... ( though I found the cover quite intriguing between him break nag on his knees and chewing on her shorts ( girl on cover ,Can't see Cait dressing like that unless undercover) you think Spencer was the submissive type, but he was not.) and Cait is fearless and honesty and interesting and lil Meggie is amazing but I just never fell in love... I tried and plan to read more ,and had a really good time but if this was a date I'd ask the guy if we could just be friends ,I wanna keep seeing you at n my life but not in a romantic sorta way ;) Giggles ,how does this relate to the book not sure but it's something that just kept coming up over and over in my head as I read the book ;)
Caitlynne O’Malley is a tough character, she is used to being in control. When she saves Spencers daughter from a speeding car she ends up in back in the hospital briefly meeting Spencer Grant and her world is turned upside down. What is it with men and screwing up, I'm not saying that women are perfect as that is far from the truth but these Grant boys take the cake. I really liked caitlynne, she was strong, direct and as the other women not about to take crap for anything. She only had a few moment when I wanted to smack her when she thought stupid sh#$. Spencer was portrayed as the good Grant brother, he has a small child, was a good father but he is just as stupid as the rest of them. Some of the things that came out of his mouth made me want to take him to the wood shed and show him the error of his ways. I have to give their mom credit, I think I would have killed them all before they grew up. I did really enjoy the story even thought the characters had me pulling my hair, crossing my eyes and yelling at them when I knew they could not hear me. Filled with humor, sarcasm, angst, love and acceptance another great storyline is born from the imagination of a truly talented author.
Another thrilling installment in the Grant Brothers series by Kathi Barton. Barton kept up the heat in this one--in my opinion, it was the most romantically intense and gripping of all of the books so far. The book details the story of Spencer Grant and Caitlynne O'Malley, a Chicago cop with a brutal past. They're both so different from one another and yet the same. So headstrong, so stubborn. They misunderstand each other a lot. Spencer is a college professor. And then there's Meggie--Spencer's adorable daughter, a deaf mute who is all too endearing. He's so gentle and protective with her, it makes reading about them enjoyable. Caitlynne is strong, witty, resourceful, and beautiful. It's nice to have the two previous Grant brothers intertwined throughout this story--I have a feeling this is a trend the author continues. The plot is fascinating, and has a gripping twist at the end that left me biting my nails and turning pages like crazy. I'd have to say this is my favorite book so far, but there are three Grants left...can't wait to read the rest of them.
Spencer of all the Grant brothers is probably my favorite brother. While he does have a quick like temper like his brothers, unlike them he knows when he was wrong and when he needs to grovel and he's not afraid to do it. There are plenty of times where Spencer's temper gets the better of him, but Cait isn't one to sit back and take it and she gives as good as she gets.
Spencer is a professor and a single father. Cait is a homicide detective that seems to find herself in more trouble than she can get herself out of.
From the minute Cait saves Meggie (Spencer's daughter) from being hit by a car, the feelings between Cait and Spencer started and only got hotter from there. What I liked about this book that so many authors seem to forget, when you have a single parent who is pursuing a romantic interest, many times authors will forget that a relationship needs to develop between the child and the new romantic interest. In this one, Cait and Meggie seem to hit it off from the start and Cait isn't scared to step into a mother like role for Meggie.
I bought this series as a boxed set - Each book in this series will take you on an emotional roller coaster!! Byron is still my favorite, but the ladies in this series are AMAZING! They have over come so much in their pasts and the men trying to convince them that they want yo be in their lives is pretty funny. Of course, Mom knows how to keep her boys in line and what's not funnier than watching a grown man squirm when his Mom is called in. It takes a strong man to go with a strong woman. Each couple has their ups and downs as their pasts rear their ugly heads. But working together and leaning to trust each other has it's benefits.
Not quite the emotional rollercoaster as the first two books in the series but a great read. You will need the tissues at the end!
Another Grant brother falls for an awesome girl and then screws it up with his insensitive mouth! I was with the story for most of the book but the end has some really unrealistic moments. I get the hero is upset but the things he says are so out of left field I could not believe them.
In the end I love the series and can overlook what I see a a minor story flaw.
I Liked the 1st books in the series, but this one was hard to suspend belief. That's kinda hard to absorb. Will read the rest of the series, cause I'm dying to read the Doc's book.
Another great book by kathi s Barton spencer was amazing but now since I finished the third book I'm starting to think all of the grant men or pigheaded but very loving to the women they love and the ending will leave you teary eyed and wanting more
This book was amazing not as good as the first two in my opinion but still amazing! I loved it! I loved all the characters, old and new, and just didn't want it to end! Onto the next book in the series!
Wonderful, loved it, I even cried when Aunt Dee and Uncle Paddy got shot and died, that is a really good book experience. A very good read I highly recommend this book
