Robert Turner quit his Midwestern dead-end job and moved to South Korea to teach English. With the success of the 1988 Summer Olympics fresh in his mind and democracy on the rise, Turner bet on Seoul to be the perfect place for some well-needed adventure and a brighter future.
But during his first weekend in Seoul, what starts out as an innocent night-on-the-town turns into a drunken nightmare after Turner wakes up in bed with a dead prostitute and can’t remember what happened. Now, an entire nation wants to see him pay the ultimate price for the crime.
Abandoned by the US Embassy, with only the help of a public defender, Turner has to escape a web of organized crime, rogue law enforcement, and a rising tide of anti-American sentiment from an entire country demanding justice. How does a man survive when he has No Way Out?
I have read all of Jeffrey Millers books and I have never been disappointed. His writing is always superb. No Way Out was a departure from his other efforts but it was just as entertaining. I grew up near LaSalle, Illinois and I always appreciate his references to the Illinois Valley area.
“No Way Out” is a fast-paced thriller with authentic elements of international espionage, mystery and military that will appeal to fans of Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum. This well-written, well-paced novel hits the ground running when the protagonist, Robert Turner, wakes up in bed with a dead prostitute and only murky memories of the night before.
I particularly enjoyed the authenticity of this novel. They say you should write what you know and Miller’s background as a mid-westerner with three decades living in Korea shine through in this novel.
I look forward to many more books from Mr. Miller! Highly recommended!!
A rollicking thriller beautifully set in the smoking, drinking Seoul of the early 1990s. The story cracks along at a wonderful pace, bringing the reader into the minds of the characters and reveling in the almost noirish setting of the city. The main character, Robert, is one you can empathize with, as well as wonder how he managed to get himself into such dire situations. Nicely written Mr. Miller, and I look forward to your next one.
I was surprised by how much this book grabbed me. This was a page turner with lots of suspense. Story of Robert Turner moving to South Korea to begin a new career teaching English. The introduction of his sleazy roommate Keith, near the beginning turned me off for a bit, but he was a minor character to the story. This book keeps the reader on edge, guessing what might happen next as the twists and turns keep coming. Definitely riveting and a really good read. Highly recommended!
