For vampire Gabriel “Gabe” Santini, being in love with the only trained male witch in a female dominant society is not an easy thing. Seiran Rou has more issues than just a phobia of commitment. A recent rash of attacks and harassment at school has left him withdrawn and edgy.
Making a cake for his mother was never really about making Tanaka Rou happy, and Seiran wears his heart on his sleeve as he tries, yet again, to please her. But Gabe has an idea how to put a much needed smile on Sei’s sweet face. Starting with “helping” make the frosting and showing Sei that pastry can be more than a little decadent...

After one long novella and one free short story written from Sei's point of view, I wholeheartedly welcome Gabe's perspective. It brings me closer to see him as a character -- and I come to love him even more, for his deep love for Sei, for willing to do anything to make Sei happy, and for continuing to hope that Sei will say that he loves Gabe back. Just lovely ...
This was another great addition to the Dominion world. Not just because it gets deeper into Seiran's problems but because it is told from Gabe's POV which made me feel even closer to him. I loved that he can put a smile on Seiran's face even when Seiran is at his worst with the OCD. It's heartbreaking that Seiran is still trying to get approval from his mother but I'm glad Gabe is there when Seiran needs him the most.
This was a great little read. The frosting fight was...Hot! As well as the shower scene that followed. I like how this was written in a way where it is easy to imagine what is happening in your head, it's easy to follow and the characters are well done.
Okay - another really short story that makes me want to read more about Gabe and Sei. They are two very interesting characters. I'm going to buy Inheritance, book #1 in the Dominion series today.
Very sweet short told from Gabe's point of view. This one delves a little deeper into Seiran's issues, and we see another side to Seiran and Gabe's relationship.
Chapter 0.2 in the Dominion series. Told from Gabe's POV.
ⓂⒸⓢ: Gabe, a 2,000 year old vampire Seiran/Sei, a 19-year-old witch
🤗 Gabe shows he cares for Sei, who's afraid of love and commitment. He waits patiently for Sei to overcome his fears and return his love.

🛑 Summary & Spoilers 🛑
Sei is now living off campus, after months of being teased, picked on and nearly raped. Gabe wants to visit on Friday, but Sei says no for some reason.
After Sei was severely beaten in chapter 0.1, Gabe has been making sure that he gets home safely every night. That evening, Gabe sees Sei arrive at his apartment with shopping bags. Gabe goes to help him carry it inside. Sei allows him inside.
Sei has a spotless, orderly apartment, maintained by a strict cleaning routine. It suggests he has OCD; any disruption can trigger a panic attack.
Sei is making his terrible mother a birthday cake. She leads the Dominion's regional division, a matriarchal society that doesn't like males. She constantly reminds Sei he wasn't wanted, should've been a girl, and that he disappoints her.
😢 Gabe thinks: Of course the cake had to be perfect, mainly for Seiran. His big, open heart sometimes made me just want to wrap him up in my arms and cuddle him until the sun rose no more.
Gabe tries to help Sei, but does a poor job and just watches. Their growing sexual tension heats up.
❤️ Gabe:The fact that he hadn't jumped me yet, proved his resolve to perfect this gift for his mother. Someday he'd realize all the times I spent with him were just little bits of love all strung together, not lust, and that he had my heart.
Gabe's erection shows he's turned on, but he doesn't want to make it all about sex, no matter how much he wants Sei. Sei making frosting leads to a frosting fight. He and Gabe then have a hot shower scene. 🔥🥵🚿
Gabe thinks if he can keep Sei's focus on sex, then he won't panic over the mess they left. He wants to possess Sei in every way possible, prove he belongs to him, and that he can be everything Sei needs.
The next morning, Gabe finds the kitchen cleaned and the beautifully decorated cake finished.
🫂🥰 Gabe:No one should have to work so hard to seek approval from a parent, but the only thing I could really do was be there to hold him, no matter what happened. And I would.
This is in essence a teaser for a novella Inheritance which is coming from Dreamspinner Press in October. It is also a little slice which requires you to read the blurb, as much of the back story to the couple is in the blurb, although even then I was left with more questions than answers. Gabe is watching over Sei who has been attacked, beaten and nearly raped while living on campus and has now moved to his own apartment. Although they seem to have a relationship of sorts, Sei keeps refusing Gabe’s requests to visit, however when he sees Gabe trying to shuffle grocery bags, he makes a move to help and Sei agrees reluctantly to let him come in.
There is then some sexy fun with icing and you get to know a bit more about Sei, about his OCD concerning neatness, about his uneasy, if not outright hostile, relationship with his mother, and about Gabe’s love for him. However you never discover why Sei was bullied and attacked so brutally or why Sei seems quite happy to have Gabe there and they have a good time, but yet was so reluctant to allow him to come over.
I’m assuming many of these questions will be answered in the novella. What is Gabe’s role within the community of witches as a vampire? How did he and Sei meet? What was happening with Sei at the school to cause such terrible incidents? If this story is meant to be a teaser, it certainly does that.
I found the writing style accessible and pleasing, and both Gabe and Sei were intriguing characters I would have liked to learn more about, but as a complete story this is lacking in that the plot is merely one scene of the couple with some hints about the real story and their background. This may encourage readers to pick up the complete story when it is released.
The second short-story prequel to Lissa Kasey’s Dominion series, this time the story is told from the point of view of Gabriel, Seiran Rou’s older (well, ancient, given that he’s a vampire) sexual partner, a couple we are introduced to in Friction. We learn about Gabriel’s deep love and concern for Seiran, who has moved to an off-campus apartment to avoid bullying, as well as Seiran’s OCD tendencies and his need for his mother’s approval.
The sex the two have together in this story is hot, if a little rough, as one might expect in having sex with a vampire! (To understand how a vampire controls the urge to feed on a human partner, the explanation is given in Friction.)
Again, magic is only hinted at in this story, despite Seiran being a magic student – I would’ve expected it to have a more prominent role. Nevertheless, this is a good story of love and lust seen through the eyes of one of the lovers.
I actually liked this novella quite a bit. It was a great quick adult read. Very adult. I recommend that no one under the age of eighteen read it. I would have loved it if Decadence had been a full length novel because I found Sei's character very interesting.
My only complaint is that it was a "vampire" story. I use that term loosely because even though I love vampire fiction, this one didn't really seem vamp-ish. With the exception of vampire tendencies thrown in here and there, the vampire character could have just as easily been a human and didn't really seem like a "creature of the night".
Overall though, it was good. I enjoyed it a lot and I'm going to be reading everything I find from Lissa Kasy if it's possible.
Re-reading these so I can continue with the series.
How fun to get Gabe's perspective in this one, and therefore learn much more about Sei than he would ever reveal himself.
And what a delightful use for frosting. ;)
Favorite Quotes: Sometimes his heart was so large, and hanging so loosely on his sleeve that it made me just want to wrap him up in my arms and cuddle him until the sun rose no more.
Someday he'd realize all the times I spent with him were just little bits of love all strung together.
I really enjoyed the three short stories that start the Dominion series. Friction (0.1), Decadence (0.2), and Resolute (0.3). They whetted my appetite for the novellas to come in the series. There were a number of typos but when it’s a free story you can’t be too picky. Hopefully the published for pay works have been edited more carefully. I’m eager to see how things turn out for Sei and Gabe.
Sweet. A good teaser for the upcoming longer story. We don't know much about Sei's mother yet and I already feel sorry for him. To be told you were not wanted and you are not good enough by your own parent is wrong.
This one was okay. I find myself wondering about some of the things that are mentioned... It seems like I'm missing something and that annoys me. I'll give 0.3 a read... I doubt very much the series is worth buying.
Another short story about Gabe and Sei and their somehow undefined relationship. In this story, Gabe's offer to help Sei prepare a cake for his mum's birthday turns into a really sexy experience for both. I cannot wait to continue discovering this really interesting universe.
This was another short and sweet story about Seiran and Gabe. With a cake and some insight into Seiran's relationship with his mom taking center stage. You also get to see the relationship between both men developing which is something I like to see in books.
