Speed. It's what I crave and it's what I do. I lace up my skates or hop on my motorcycle and keep searching for that next adrenaline rush. I'm used to hopping from one girl to the next just as fast. What can I say? I like a quick and easy hookup with no strings.
No one has ever made me want to come back for more until Morgan Huff. She's supposed to be off-limits -- her brother, Patrick, is the team captain. And he doesn't hesitate to go after any guy who so much as looks at her. But we've already crossed the line and there's no going back. I just can't get enough of this girl.
She's risking her relationship with her brother and I'm potentially risking my place on the team. What we have can only exist in secret, but I'd gamble it all to be near her. What Patrick doesn't know can't hurt him, right?
Nils and Morgan are an unlikely couple. Even outside of Morgan being the Captain’s little sister. She is outgoing and loves to be around people. He is more introverted and soft spoken.
I love that their relationship started out as a friendship. Her coming over for him to taste test some drinks (loved him questioning the colloquialism of “Guinea pig”) and him showing her the thrills of being on the back of his motorcycle. While they both know it’s probably not the smartest idea to get together (especially being Patrick’s back), there’s no denying their chemistry.
One trope that happens often in sports romances especially that I’m not a fan of at all is “I can’t get you off my mind, so I’ll screw around instead”. Like, Nils, it’s not a romantic gesture that you’re thinking about her as you’re doing two pick bunnies at the same time…
When Patrick found out about their relationship, I loved that Morgan didn’t back down. She stood in front of Nils and didn’t let him be his normal overbearing/ overprotective self. I love the little road trip Morgs and Nils took after!
I was on the fence in the last book of how I felt about Carly as a friend for Brenna, but this solidified that I hate her. I absolutely LOVE Matus, and I’m hoping he gets a book! But also, super pumped for some fake dating of best friend’s brother with Patrick and Jade!!
This was a quick read for me. A good hockey romance with the captain’s sister falling for the foreign hockey player who is addicted to speed, both on and off the ice.
There was a lot packed into this story. It addressed mental health, injury to a teammate and friend, a secret relationship, dealing with the sudden death of a parent, on top of all the hockey and romance you would expect. Nils and Morgan seemed an unlikely couple with his history of hookups and her determination to never be with a hockey player, but after they got past those surface level layers, they had a connection they couldn’t deny.
Nils and Morgan kept their relationship a secret for the majority of the book. When it finally came to light, I’m so glad Morgan stuck up for Nils and didn’t let her brother dictate her life in a way that she would have regretted later. Nils and Morgan stuck together and that’s what made the ending so great.
Overall this was a good read. I loved the first time Nils took Morgan out on his motorcycle and the feeling of freedom it brought to Morgan.
Definitely better than book 1. There was more connection with the characters and the "feels" were less one dimensional. But the intimate scenes are so generic, paint by numbers. There's no originality or emotion to them. I guess some author's have a writing style you connect with and some dont.
