Avery used to have high hopes for her future until one traumatic night shattered her into a million pieces. Time went on, scabbing her wounds, and Avery learned how to live within the shadows of her mind while keeping her struggles to herself.

Now in Toronto, the place she has called home for the last three years, Avery’s world abruptly capsizes. With no roof over her head, she decides to fly across the ocean to find solace in the rugged hills of the Scottish Highlands.

What she doesn’t expect to find is an unlikely connection with Lachlan—a brooding, local Scotsman in the small town of Corran—who seems to be navigating through his own darkness. While Lachlan anxiously anticipates Avery's departure, she relishes the opportunity to evade her mysterious and sullen Scottish neighbour. Immersed in the captivating splendor of the mountains and valleys, Avery directs her attention towards self-discovery, immortalizing the breathtaking scenery within the pages of her sketchbook.

But the bond between Lachlan and Avery is magnetic, pulling them closer together with each passing day. Yet time is running against them, and what Avery doesn’t know is that Corran is protecting something that is meant to stay hidden: a secret that could end in devastation and heartbreak.

I just finished formatting Wonderlight and decided it's the perfect time to add it to my 'read' shelf since it's finally done! What a journey this has been.

I am so incredibly excited for you to meet Avery and Lachlan. I truly hope this story will leave you swooning, healing, falling in love and exploring Scotland. Seriously though, Lachlan is something else. They say you never forget your first and BELIEVE ME...I will never forget my first ever book boyfriend. He is just everything...and Avery is, she's full of hope and...okay, I can't say much more but I'm so excited for you to take a journey down to Scotland in June. Get ready for the twists and turns, and to add Lachlan to your long list of book boyfriends.

Best ARC ever!
I've read some pretty amazing ARCs but this one trumps them all.

Dearest Tina, what you have managed to do with this book has me in complete awe of this amazing gift you have with words.

This book healed parts of me that I didn't realize needed healing, made me feel confident and inspired me to live in the moment, to enjoy the sunsets and eat the ice cream because why not but most of all it made me believe that love is out there and it will find me, one day 🥰

This book has:
• characters who go from dislike to intrigued to friends to lovers
• a plot twist you won't see coming
• a troubled FMC and MMC who help eachother through their trauma, both knowingly and not
• THE CUTEST side characters, I want an Ailith in my life please
• A+++ writing
• A lot of spice
• AMAZING worldbuilding
As someone who's been to Scotland a lot and is in love with it's magical lands and myths, I can confidently say you've done a spectacular job of portraying the Scottish highlands, the people and the accent it's just perfect and made me long to go back.

Honestly there are no words, if you like romance and all of the above (which doesn't even cut close to everything this book is) please preorder it now, it is totally 100% worth it.

No-one comes has come close enough to SJM, JLA or JEM for me in a while but @tinaspencerauthor
has and that's quite an accomplishment.

I completely ADORED this book!! This is one of those reads that has you feeling all warm and fuzzy on the inside and I just loved everything about it. And the way I fell in love with Scotland. I need to book a flight and travel there this instant because I am in love with that place!! This is Tina’s debut novel and I’m not even lying when I tell you it will blow you away! Just prepare to swoon and fall in love with a handsome Scottish man Lachlan. 😍

Avery is on a journey to find herself and her Wonderlight while healing from a past trauma, so she impulsively buys a ticket to Scotland in hopes she to find her answers there. What she doesn’t expect is meet broody yet charming Lachlan who is also dealing with his own past trauma as well. Neither one can deny the pull they have towards each other and soon their love story unfolds. And I savored every second of it!

I absolutely adored feisty Avery and could relate to her so much. How one day can shape who you are and cause your world darkness but trying to find the light again throughout it. So many lines in this book resonated with me. 🥺 And wait til you meet the man that is Lachlan. He completely swept me off my feet! My new life goal: travel to Scotland and find me a Lachlan that can be my tour guide as well as show me some other experiences. 😉 I LOVE that man!! He is my officially my “𝘮𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘩.” 😍

Thank you a billion times for this arc and this beautiful book Tina! Your words truly touched my heart and this book was just oh so beautiful. I can’t wait to experience more worlds you create. Plus… you’re a pretty awesome person too. 😉
Everyone needs to add this one to their TBR!! Especially if you wanna travel to Scotland without leaving your couch. Avery and Lachlan are truly soulmates brought together by fairies and their story is one I will cherish forever.

“That’s the thing with trauma, it steals all the light and colour, replacing it with black ink”.

Oof, this book carries some heavy trauma. You follow the main character, Avery, as she comes to terms with her past and follow her journey as she finds herself again. As she begins to trust in her light, despite the darkness of her past, and starts to believe she deserves the happiness that is waiting for her.

Lachlan was so gentle with her, showing her all the beauty she still has, even her dark parts. He’s mindful of her emotions, pushes her when the time is appropriate and their communication is so refreshing (even though they do keep their secrets…but it is in context to the story).

“I will tell her that her dark days don’t define who she becomes, and they can never diminish her light. No, it only makes her light shine brighter.”

They help heal each other, not expecting what one another is bringing into the other’s life. Their relationship is sweet, endearing, and so comforting. The story is dramatic, but not in the way that miscommunication is often a part of romance stories. The drama lies in their pasts and healing journeys.

“The fear is never going to go away. It will always be there, but I choose to face it instead of running from it. Because every time you chase it, you strip its power away.”

“Maybe healing isn’t about trying to erase the past or abandon the pain…Maybe it’s not about forgetting, but learning how to breathe around the broken pieces of yourself, until inhaling doesn’t burn. It’s about learning to love yourself after you fall apart.”

There is a scene near the end, that even though it does coincide with the story, it almost felt like an unnecessary added piece of drama when the bulk of the story was Lachlan and Avery’s healing journeys. It didn’t completely come out of left field as there was some foreshadowing previously that eluded to it; just something felt off with its placement that made the few chapters before the ending seem out of place.

Regardless, will definitely recommend this book to my fellow book readers. Just remember to check the trigger warnings beforehand.

This was such a beautiful story full of healing, growth, and discovery. There were also amazing descriptions of Scotland! It really made me wish I were in Scotland because it seems like such a “magical” place.

Anyway, Avery had been through a traumatic experience years ago, then she was practically kicked out of her ex-boyfriend’s place when he admitted to cheating on her for over a year. He gave her his card to find some place to stay, and she figured why not go to Scotland?

She was discovering Scotland on her own and ran into Lachlan. There is something he is hiding about his identity, and he feels like everyone is chasing after him. So when he sees Avery, he accuses her of following him and isn’t very kind to her.

Eventually, he realizes she doesn’t know who he truly is and he intends to keep it that way. He is actually very sweet and caring toward her after that, and it’s obvious they have a real connection.

Both Avery and Lachlan were able to open up to each other about their trauma and were just very understanding and supportive of each other. They truly understood each other, and they were great together.

The ending had a slightly crazy moment that I wasn’t expecting, mostly because everything before that gave off a more cozy feeling. But the little twist was great and showed Lachlan and Avery’s love for each other was strong.

This was a great story and I look forward to more from this author!

Wonderlight by Tina Spencer

This book wow, this one has taken me by surprise.

Avery, she’s had a rough go in her life. A girl who would be happy and content with her romance novels and her sketch book. Her first instinct is always to run some recent relationship changes send her on a spur of the moment trip to the Scottish Highlands. Just searching for escape and some hope for clarity in her life, what she finds is not at all what she was expecting!

Lachlan is a man who is trying to fly under the radar while laying low at his family’s inn/pub. Trying to figure out who he is while trying to run from the mess that is his life, he is just staring out at a lake one day and stumbles across a girl who see him!

Will their secrets of their past be their undoing or will they find the unexpected while on their journey of self healing?

This was so good! First book I’ve read by this author, but not the last. I adored the backdrop of the Scottish highlands and how amazing Avery was as a person. The tension between her and Lachlan was absolute perfection, as was their banter. Really great spice and a wonderful story. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my god, this book was incredible!

I loved Avery and Lachlan so so much. Just two people, broken and lost just trying to find themselves again and heal.

Without trying to or realising it they healed each other.

I am blown away that this is Tina Spencer’s first book! I am now a super fan for life.

I can wait for if this book ever ends up as an audiobook because woah that would be bloody hot!

4.75⭐ 2.5🌶

Oh my goodness, let me tell you, this story is absolutely incredible! I can't even begin to express how much praise I have for the author behind it. And get this, it's their debut story! I mean, seriously, wowowow! The way they've portrayed the stunning Scottish scenery and its sheer magnificence throughout the novel is just mind-blowing. Honestly, I truly believe this author has poured their heart and soul into creating a love story dedicated to Scotland within these very pages.
Right from the get-go, I fell head over heels in love with Avery and Lachlan's enchanting romance. It felt like they were destined to be together, you know? And let me tell you, I am absolutely obsessed with stories where the guy falls head over heels first. But here's the thing, even though I think they fell for each other at the same time and Avery was just being way too stubborn to admit it, Lachlan was completely done for from the moment he locked eyes with Avery. I'm talking about love at first sight, my friend! Both characters were broken in their own ways, embarking on a journey of self-discovery and healing. And let me just say, it was quite a thrill not knowing the full extent of Lachlan's past until the very end of the book. The suspense was killing me!
All in all, let me tell you, this story is an absolute gem, and I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you're a fan of extraordinary love stories that revolve around personal growth and finding oneself. Oh, and hold on tight because it's packed with some serious sexual chemistry, oozing with sensual healing, and it's got a hefty dose of that breathtaking Scottish beauty we all love. Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this one!

Lemme state one thing that made this book more amazing, more interesting, DAMN, THE SLOWBURN. My God, the slowburn!!!!

Everything was so well written, the storyline was perfect! And wait wait wait.. THIS BOOK IS LOCATED IN SCOTLAND! My dream place to go to!

_Lachlan was so hottt and sexy, I swear! (I came to know at the end of the book that all this time I mispronounced his name, I'm so sorry Lachlan babe, I'm ashamed:( )
_He was so in love with her, so obsessed with her. He wanted her and God! I love men who knows what they want😭

_Avery is strong character and I loved her so much. I can relate to her so much in many things. She's not the type of female MC who'll make u cringe or a typical sweet girl. NO, she has her own personality, the one that Lachlan fell for.

_This book stated many spitting facts, reality checks which made me think for hours how accurate and relatable they were. It made me realize many things. Thanks to author Tina>>>

Tropes:
_contemprory romance.

The idea was there, the execution was not. This book needs a good edit, it could have been 100 pages shorter. I read the first 300 pages on a plane with nothing else to do and then felt the need to persevere, but it was a slog. Wouldn’t recommend but definitely check the trigger warnings if you decide to give it a go.

Title: Wonderlight
Author: Tina Spencer
Hero/Heroine: Lachlan & Avery
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, there’s another trope but don’t want to give any spoilers away

tw/cw: sexual assault, depression, grief, parental abandonment, stalking, infidelity (off page and side character),

✨the good ✨

This is the second book in two days that I’ve absolutely devoured, and I have absolutely no regrets about it. Wonderlight was incredible from start to finish, I’m actually a little bit said that it’s over, not gonna lie.

After getting back from a spa trip arranged by her boyfriend to find her bags packed, Avery, our lovely heroine, makes the spontaneous decision to travel to Scotland to get away from everything and everyone. Having dealt with a traumatic event in her past, she’s swearing off men and anything to do with romance. Enter a six foot four brooding Scottish bloke ready to crap all over that plan (not literally, thankfully).

When I say that these two characters were incredible, I mean every word. Avery, even though she’d been through a hell of a lot, showed incredible strength and determination and I loved her for it. Lachlan, though broody and intense at first, was an absolute sweetheart, and even though you knew he was hiding something big, he still made sure that Avery was the centre of his world. I was here for it. I was here for all of it.

I don’t want to go into too much detail for fear of giving away spoilers, however I will just say read this book. Set aside a solid day to sit down and absorb yourself in this wonderful story of healing and acceptance, you will not regret it. At all.

✨ the bad ✨

Edgar. Or Edgar the Arsehole as I called him all throughout the book.

Thank you to the author and @greyspromo for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

ARC Review!

Tina Spencer's remarkable talent shines through in her exquisite storytelling, crafting a captivating narrative filled with heartfelt moments and an enchanting portrayal of the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland.

The story follows Avery, who life's takes an unexpected turn when a sudden breakup prompts her to impulsively purchase a ticket to Scotland. After exploring the bustling city for a few days, she decides to venture into the highlands. During her journey, she stumbles upon the picturesque village of Corran.

Her first encounter in the highlands is with the enigmatic Scotsman, Lachlan. Both harboring personal traumas (check your TWs!), they have sought solace and self discovery amidst the stunning landscapes. Their encounter sparks a profound relationship (albeit not initially!), evoking a myriad of emotions within readers. While Avery's past is revealed early on, the depths of Lachlan's history unveil gradually, keeping readers captivated until the story's climactic ending, where the full extent of his past is finally unveiled.

Tina Spencer's debut novel surpasses all expectations! This remarkable book is an absolute must-read for romance book lovers, which will without a doubt leave them captivated.

AN INTRODUCTION
First, I’d like to thank Tina Spencer and Romance Me With Books for allowing me the opportunity to review this book. Next, this review does include some spoilers, so please, proceed with caution. If you are someone who struggles with subjects surrounding the following subjects, you may want to skip this one: SA (sexual assault), depression/anxiety/mental health, stalking, imprisonment, emotional manipulation/blackmail, and revenge porn.

LET’S TALK ABOUT WONDERLIGHT
After a sexual assault, Avery was numb and closed off to the world. It was hard to imagine trusting anyone. Until she found a companion in her now-ex, John. After moving across the country to be with him and support him in his professional goals, she’s out on her rear with nothing but a broken heart to show for it. For a year, John has been having an affair, but somehow, he didn’t think to tell her a bit earlier so she could find a place to stay. With his credit card burning a hole in her pocket, she hops on a plane and jet-sets to Scotland, where a series of events lead her straight into the arms of Lachlan—a secretive Scot who seems keen to keep her at arm’s length. Even it means fighting against the magnetic current that draws them closer together.

There are trigger warnings for this book. As stated above, sexual assault is one of them. But there are also content warnings for: depression, anxiety. There should also be trigger warnings for imprisonment, emotional abuse/manipulation, stalking, trauma, and infidelity.

And now, a disclaimer of my own. If you’re new here, hi, hello, my name is Ivy. I review books as objectively as I can, focusing solely on storytelling, writing style, and other criteria. A lot of times, my personal rating varies vastly from the rating I end up giving the book. My criticisms are not personal attacks, they are personal observations and thoughts. Just because I feel a certain way about a book doesn’t mean that you will feel the same.

CARRYING ON!
As far as debuts go, this is beautifully done. Tina Spencer has a lovely writing style that easily draws the reader in and keeps them engaged. The book starts off bleak, ripping the reader’s heart open and daring it to beat as you dive deeper into Avery’s trauma.

The romance between Lachlan and Avery borders almost on magical realism (being described frequently as electric/magnetic, implying that there is another magical force drawing them nearer). It’s an insta-love, turned enemies, to lovers. There’s a little bit of everything.

Tina managed to create the perfect book boyfriend, and I dare to say that he’ll top the charts (it’s the accent, man).

That all being said, I do have some criticisms of Wonderlight. I’ll start with the nitpick-y and work my way up.

First, I don’t think this book needed to be as long as it was. In print, it’s said to be around 460 pages. For a romance book, she be quite thicc. As a fantasy fanatic, I have no problem with long reads, but there has to be something to sink my teeth into. It felt like a lot of the middle-matter were “slice-of-life” scenes, which isn’t interesting to a lot of readers. While they did serve their purpose, I feel like they might have been more engaging if Spencer leaned just a smidge harder into the mystery surrounding Lachlan.

Ultimately, because we spent so much time in the establishing/developing chapters, Lachlan’s big reveal came at the very, very end. To the point it felt rushed and dampened my ability to connect with it as the big “aha!” moment I believe it was intended to be.

Which, now, leads us here. Lachlan suffered a traumatic experience—forced imprisonment, emotional blackmail, threat of revenge porn, extortion, kidnapping, drugging, stalking, etc. I’m admittedly pretty disappointed that these aren’t added into the trigger warnings. Why are we warned about Avery’s story, but Lachlan’s is swept under the rug? Is it because the audience isn’t expected to connect emotionally with a man’s trauma?

As a sexual assault survivor, I absolutely cannot speak for how people deal with their trauma. It is unique to everyone, and sometimes, people handle it in reckless ways that make no sense to non-survivors. That all being said, I do think that this book needed something a bit heftier than “sexual assault in memory” as its warning. There were points that bordered on trauma flashbacks, and while written elegantly, there were points in recounting her own sexual assault that I was recounting my own. And yes, yes, us with triggers should manage our own responses, but it’s a little difficult to make an informed decision when the contents weren’t properly labeled on the tin.

I’ve written about trigger warnings and their necessity here.

I think that Spencer would benefit from running her manuscripts past a few sensitivity readers in the future, or by finding some beta-readers/other authors to give it a once over with potential (or rather, more comprehensive) trigger warnings in mind.

ALL IN ALL.
Wonderlight is a solid debut and it’s something that Tina Spencer should be proud of. I have no doubt that Lachlan will catapult himself to the top of everyone’s book boyfriend charts. I do think that additional trigger warnings need to be added/clarified so that it can be properly labeled so its readers can make a more informed decision.

I just knew from the cover and synopsis of this book that it was going to be a good read!!

I was not prepared for the absolute personal journey that we were being taken on but I enjoyed it nonetheless. This story was such a beautiful telling of Avery’s past, present, and future and her fight back to the surface. The book begins with our main girl being stuck in a struggle, she feels like an empty husk just going through the motions. When the choice is basically made for her to move on, Avery lives in the moment and buys a flight to Scotland. Awaiting her is Lachlan, our dark and broody love interest who seems to be hiding from the whole world. Their first meeting ends a little rocky, with Avery running away… directly to the town where Lachlan is from.

From here, we get to see Avery and Lachlan get even closer against Avery’s better judgement, because this trip has an expiration date. Ignoring their looming end, these two fall into a comfortable and loving routine. We get to see Avery rediscover her body with the help of a tall, brooding Scotsman and it’s magnificent! Even though she feels like Lachlan is hiding something, Avery chooses to ignore it in order to enjoy the time they have left. Of course, the secrets come pouring out and the climax of this book is tense!! The obstacles and drama in this book were perfectly written and didn’t seem too out of the box.

This well-written, beautiful story about a woman who thinks she’s broken but finding herself anew is such a great journey. We get to see Avery make her own progress and we get to see, in ways, that Lachlan can help her. This book is filled with spicy scenes, a dashing and dirty talking Scotsman, bittersweet moments that make you want to cry, and a wonderful conclusion to end it off.
Thank you to Grey’s Promotions and the author for gifting me this ARC 💜

i've seen this book recommened on a facebook group and decided to try it out! as where the story was set it sparked interest to me because i one day would like to travel to scottland. and this book did not disappoint! the story had good back round information on the two charcters and how they've overcome there struggles.

another thing i throughly enjoyed was the writing. it just made me more intuned and i could easily picture the characters actions and how the story was progressing.

i also think it would be cool to see becca (avery's friend) have a book as well. because she did seem really interesting and i loved her passion and enthusiasm.

and man.. someone bring me a scotish hottie like lachlan because he sounds scrumptious. 🥵

ok, I just had to take half a day to try and gather my thoughts and feelings into words about this book. OMG, this book is a gem. No sorry, a freaking diamond! It was so good and I read it so quickly it literally kept me up because I could not put it down. Ok, let's break this down.

First of all, the writing was beautiful and the descriptions were so good it made me want to hop on a plane right away and move to Scotland (I was obsessed with it already now it's even worst). The scenery and the detailing of every places Avery went made us feel like we were right there with her.

Second, the characters. Avery had such a spiritual growth and I felt so proud of her journey by the end of the book, it was as if I actually knew her. I connected to her character so much and I rooted for her, I cried for her and was so happy for her like she was an actual person. And Lachlan.... I do not have words to say aside that he is now my #1 book husband (who wouldn't want to be married to him like seriously). His quotes are so swoon worthy and perfect and how he cares omg I can't get over it.

Now for the rest. The pace was perfect and loved that this was not only a romance between two characters but also a book about finding ourselves in adversity and come back as a warrior on the other side. It's about self discovery, it's about embracing our fears and battling our demons. It's about love of life and love of ourselves. This story had mystery, it had beautiful scenery, funny banter and a slow burn that was 1000% worth it. I went through a myriad of emotions from beginning to end and the last 15% of the book kept me on my toes. There was so much tenderness and and love coming from every corner and the story was so powerful it has me in a chokehold. I wish this book never ended and I will miss those characters with everything in my heart.

Quick takeaways:
- One bed
- Forced proximity
- Enemies to lovers
- Scottish Highlands
- He falls first

Normally this would be 3⭐️ for me. However, the delicate themes in this book were handled so perfectly and after taking a breath since finishing it definitely deserves 4⭐️’s. Maybe more if I decide to come back and visit Scotland with Avery again.

⭐️=DNF or barely finished it, not likely to read author again-don’t read.

⭐️⭐️=meh, wasn’t great, also didn’t hate it. Will afford author grace (maybe).

⭐️⭐️⭐️=I liked it, it entertained me, I’ll continue to support this author and would recommend their work.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=loved it, everyone should read it, I’ll likely reread this book again. I can’t wait to inhale every book this author has gifted us with!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=I have an obsession with this story, and reread it often. I have hero worship for this author and read all their stories.

Absolutely brilliant. I am stunned this is the author's first book. I can see she has a brilliant career in romance writing ahead of her. This book was a true romance. Of two injured souls who have their fair share of secrets. But slowly heal their broken hearts with one another help and support. Two people who have entirely different forms of trauma. The author leaves you guessing until almost the end of the book what the male character was hiding from. As much as it frustrated me to not know she truly wrote it for a purpose. I love a true romance with the thrill of a great hea and this author delivers it all. It was an awesome read.

I have really enjoyed the story! It was an emotional roller coaster <3 !

I have related with parts of the MFC journey of self discovery and setting herself free while accepting the night that changed her life (“Maybe healing isn’t about trying to erase the past or abandon the pain…Maybe it’s not about forgetting, but learning how to breathe around the broken pieces of yourself, until inhaling doesn’t burn. It’s about learning to love yourself after you fall apart.”). Fell in love with Scotland through this book and need to visit one day! The MMC sounds dreamy ("I want her more than I want my next breath, more than I’ve wanted anything else in my life. Being next to her is like oxygen to my soul, and without it, I am lost in a sea of darkness. She is the light that guides me." & "I need you to get out of your head, Avery. You’re safe, I’ll take care of you. You are breathtaking, and I’m going to prove it to you if it’s the last thing I do.") and “𝘮𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘩” are my new favourite words in the world... it is a slow burn and the spice is nice, not extremely spicy though. But worth reading for the story <3. I have enjoyed learning some scottish words and slang also, and this book had me chucking few times!

“There is no part of you that has or could ever be awful. To me, you are the most beautiful person, in all the ways you fail to see. You are a survivor, Avery, and even in your darkest days, you could only ever be beautiful. I see you. All of you.” *sigh*

Wow, this was so beautifully written. What an amazing debut novel. Emotional, slow burn, spice, world building. It also had such an inspiring story, and reminded me of how I need to live life to the fullest and not worry about the little things. Enjoy the smaller parts of life and be thankful for everything I have.

This is definitely a book that made me feel warm and happy. I could just hear the MMC’s accent in my head and that definitely wouldn’t be disappointing to listen to lol! He was truly one of the greatest book boyfriends and 100% swoon worthy 😍

Stop what you’re doing and go read this book! I promise you won’t be disappointed! It’s available on KU!

Such a good book! I fell in love with Avery mainly because she reminded me a little of myself. I couldn’t put this one down, I got lost in the pages. It does have some spice, so be aware of that. Overall a great first novel!

A slow burn

2.5 💫
This is my first book from this author, and I really wanted to love it... I can't say I do. It's not what I thought it was going to be.
It's super dark in the very beginning, then it gets a sense of "f" it, then once in Scotland you feel you are studying a travel guide, then the slow burn is slow burning, then the "I am leaving in 6 weeks" kicks in, then at the last 5% of it, everything happens. It's like a book with a personality disorder, I am sorry.
I hate DNFING, so I pulled through.
Like I said, it's not badly written. It just wasn't for me.

Wonderlight Review

“Maybe it’s not about forgetting, but learning how to breathe around the broken pieces of yourself, until inhaling doesn’t burn. It’s about learning how to love yourself after you fall apart.”

Have you ever read a book that just stuck with you? This is it for me. The beauty in these words is unmatched. Not only did I fall in love with these characters and their stories, but I also fell head over heels with Tina’s writing. The descriptions of feelings, moments and scenery were so well done that it felt poetic. In addition to this, you get a beautiful romance filled with mystery and suspense. This was honest to goodness perfection.

In this story, we meet Avery who struggles with her past and is attempting to find herself and sort out her future. To do this she heads to Scotland and ends up meeting Lachlan – a mysterious and sullen soul. Both have dark and hidden pasts and are drawn to each other no matter how hard they try not to be. Avery is set to be departing back to Canada so their journey unfolds, all the while knowing that they’re on a time clock. The question becomes, will they be able to open up to the possibility of love and ultimately to one another? You’ll find out on June 20th when Wonderlight is released.

“Do you like the sight of me worshipping your body, lass? I’ve lost my fucking mind and you’re the reason why.”

I flew through this book! I loved both main characters and the secondary ones as well! The fact that it was set in Scotland was the cherry on top - made me excited for my trip next month! The author was great at setting the scene and making you feel like you were there with them. I was constantly looking forward to where Avery and Lachlan were headed next. The book included one of my favorite tropes, which is kind of a surprise little twist!
It does touch on heavier subjects though like depression, anxietv and past trauma.
I thought it was a great debut and look forward to reading more from Tina Spencer.
