in the chapter reviewing masculinity within organized sports, i strongly disagree that feminist psychoanalytical theories oversimplify the male character. idk what widely accepted feminist theories Garth Massey is reading but.. interesting. in my experience feminists and feminist philosophers, especially psychoanalytical theorists, never oversimplify masculinity. i haven’t read as much feminist theory as i should, but thats my experience so far. society, cultures, influences, and experiences, are always gone into in depth, weather men or women are the subject. of course masculinity and femininity are spoken about very very differently but to say either are ‘oversimplified’ is very strange. i think thats not only a generalization, but a false one and a very ignorant statement to make.
