Those Who Whisper

Rate this book
From International and USA Today bestselling author comes a new thrilling tale of ghosts that want to be set free and the young woman that wants to help them, even at the cost of her own heart.

I never expected to fall in love with a ghost...

I had to get away from my life.
As if anxiety was something I could escape from.
But landing a job half a world away,
teaching a precious little girl at her home in Scotland,
seemed like the perfect answer.

The Manor was beautiful.
Large and mysterious,
it held secrets that lurked
behind the glass panes and painted walls.
Secrets about a witch.
Secrets about a curse.
Secrets like - all the ghosts from the past are still here.
And they wanted me to end the curse.

But if I did, I would lose him.

:WARNING:
Do not read if you don't enjoy insta-love, or ghostly relationships.
This is pure fantasy, not to be confused with reality, and readers should go in with a suspension of disbelief.

I enjoyed this author's writing in the past and decided to pick this up. While I wanted to enjoy this more, there were so many plot holes and things that were left unanswered.

What I can say is that the vibes were there. If you want a gothic vibe, this book gave that. I like the idea of a haunted castle and lore that even the town knows. Learning more about that was the best part of the book for me.

The romance ... wasn't very good. There wasn't really any build-up to their relationship. Along with that, the chemistry was really lacking. Some of their time together reminded me of Grey's Anatomy when Izzy was getting it on with a ghost. IYKYK

I had so many questions while reading. The FMC didn't even bat an eye at the thought that there were ghosts. How do you have sex with a ghost? How was Ian's sister okay that she had sex with her ghost brother? I felt like nobody had real reactions here.

I would say more, but I don't want to give anything away. This sadly didn't work for me, but I'm still open to reading more by this author since her writing is solid.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This is my first ever Ghost Romance novel. I wasn't really sure what I was in for. I have to say - the characters all really great. They Main Characters almost reminded me of "fated mates." Lacey was full of anxiety - so much so that she wasn't able to attend regular school and make friends easily. College was not much easier for her. She goes to college to be a school teacher and when that doesn't work - she sets off to Scotland to be a private in home teacher to a sweet girl with disabilities of her own. This is where the terror and the love begins! Lacey finds strength she never knew she had. Once here she discoveres there are several tourtured and trapped souls. To help them she must give up the soul that she has found and fell in love with (Ian). Ian (the MMC/ghost) is just the kindest, swoon, take charge man! I loved every single minute of Ian! If you have a bit of imagination and love a love story - this is for you! It has spice - and plot and great characters! It is a really fast read - kept me interested, finished in one day. (I would have loved to had maybe a little longer Epilogue, what is given works but I always want more lol)

I love a good Ghost story

Lacey has crippling anxiety so she moves to Scotland so she can be independent and use her teaching degree. Ilsa and her daughter greet Lacey likes she’s family. Once she’s in the manor all kind of unexplained things keep happening to Lacey, and Ilsa tells her that the house is cursed and haunted. Ian is Ilsa’s brother who died, but Lacey she’s him and they are attracted to each other. Can Lacey help free the ghost? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing book Absolutely love Lacey and Ian. Great supporting characters and Lacey’s character development was excellent. This book has all the feels. Especially creepy

𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐫𝐚𝐝 (h) is hired to teach a young girl at Moreland Manor, so she moves halfway across the world. Not only does teaching a person one-on-one with her anxiety, but it was good for her to get a fresh start. However, when she gets to the Manor, she realizes there is more to it, and the town has been harboring secrets about a witch, curse, and ghosts. When she meets one of them, 𝐈𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥 (H), she feels a pull toward him that she cannot help, and he feels it too. Perhaps together, they can solve the mysteries of the Manor.

·˚ ༘₊· ͟͟͞͞꒰➳ 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞·˚ ༘₊· ͟͟͞͞꒰➳

The romance happened quickly, and the FMC did not even question that she was falling for a ghost. Regardless, I thought it was cute that she felt protected by him and safe, considering she was anxious and did not let her guard down easily. I wish they had gotten to know each other more, but it was difficult because he was a ghost, but they did have a connection, and it was clear that they cared for each other in the brief moments they were together. The plot was okay, but I was here for the romance, and I wish there had been more interactions between them instead of the brief glimpses before he disappeared.

Since it was a quick read and relatively fast-paced story, connecting with the characters and falling in love with them was challenging, but it is possible to like them. I did enjoy the book, I wished there had been more of an emotional connection between Ian and Lacey, but it did have its perks. This book made me want to read more paranormal romance because the aspect of a human girl with a ghost was interesting, I didn’t know how it would work for the smut, but they made it happen.

*. ⋆𝐎͢𝐕͢𝐄͢𝐑͢𝐀͢𝐋͢𝐋͢

If you’re looking to branch out from the traditional contemporary story, this is a great book to start with a paranormal romance. It is a fun read, and you’ll get to enjoy some ghost smut. Its a win-win situation honestly. 👻🌶️

Definitely Captures Your Attention !! . . .

Lacey Conrad suffers from acute anxiety, always on the edge of a panic attack, so the daily routine of this job as a tutor for a little girl (Olivia) at Moreland Manor in Scotland could be therapeutic to her as well – at least once the 15-hour flight with three layovers while being constantly surrounded by strangers had ended! Her therapist’s coping techniques had helped. At first afraid to enter the huge Manor, as soon as she stepped across the threshold she feels comfortable, warm, and welcomed, despite what she will learn later about the presence of a 200-year-old curse and ghosts.

When a violent ghost actually does try to kill Lacey as she relaxes in a hot bathtub, her employer Isla McMillan’s deceased brother Ian saves her from being drowned. But as she turns to see who was there, a man’s form disappeared into nothingness. She learns the history from Isla the next morning that the curse was on all future Lords to die before they could have forever with their true love. Isla took her to a hall of paintings of each Lord and his Lady in her family. All of the Lords had died within a few years of being married. The last Lord did not have a lady. He was Isla’s brother – the man who had faded away as she threw herself out of the bathtub the night before. She would learn later that he had saved her from another ghost’s attempt to drown her.

There are many ghosts living there who can’t move on. Ian Campbell will work with Lacey to rid them of the curse the witch Elspeth put on them and allow them to find peace. But will Lacey then lose the ghost she has fallen in love with since Ian would also move on? Is she willing to sacrifice being with him to save the other ghosts, as well as to protect Isla and Olivia?

This book will grab the reader’s emotions and bring you along for the ride. The story line is well-written and (most) of the characters are likable. The detail provided gave the reader a feeling of being present there in the story. Everything was done well! But can Lacey actually defeat the witch’s revenge?

Hello, dear readers!
Do you like watching horror movies? I adore them, even though I die of fear every time 🫣, but still my interest in them and the thrill always prevail 😈. Maybe this is a rhetorical question, but do you like romance novels? 🤣And what would you say if I told you that you can enjoy both things in one story, namely "Those who whisper". 😎 This is not the typical love story, but something much more. This is the hard struggle of a girl in her quest to help people she has only known for a short time, but feels so close and so familiar in her heart. Don't get me wrong there is a love story and it's very hot and epic and very, very unusual, but the life and death struggle is very deadly and brutal because the enemy is a cruel demon-a deceived and enraged woman. And we know extremely well what a wounded and, to put it mildly, crazy woman is capable of, even from the afterlife.
🥀I love the story and I am extremely grateful to greyspromo for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this slightly scary and very hot story. As I read it, I got goosebumps because the sinister and demonic encounters alternated with the hot and seductive encounters of our two main characters. I haven't read such a fascinating and fascinating story in a very long time, and such a powerful impact on me. I cried with our main character in the moments of apparent impasse, and was genuinely blood-curdling in the brutal fight against the supernatural evil. A beautifully written story with equal parts chilling horror, hot romances and a wonderful and completely unexpected ending that blew me away.
🥀I highly recommend "Those who whisper" and wish you pleasant and very chilling book moments with her.

So Paranormal Romances aren’t usually my kind of thing, I don’t read them very often, but I went into this with an open mind and hoped for the best.

Safe to say, I wasn’t disappointed with this book. I think it was such a good balance between the spooky side and the romance side - which didn’t make me cringe like some PNRs do! And the spooky bits made it a really good read. I did like the twist near the end, I didn’t think that was going to go the way it did!!

I loved the FMC and her story, I feel like we got to know her quite well at the start and her strength was shown throughout. I also loved the other characters, but I wish I knew a little bit more about Olivia (she seems so cute!!)

Overall, I thought this was a good book if you’re into PNRs and I’m glad I got the opportunity to read it ❤️

March 7th, 2023: I received my ARC copy, and will be updating it when I have them. (Release date: March 29th, 2023)

March 9th, 2023: Wow oh wow, this is my first ghost romance I did not know what to expect, and I am pleasantly surprised at how much I am loving all of this!

March 11th, 2023: The heartwarming story of our MFC is beautiful, I hope Lacey gets her HEA and is very relatable within the area of daily life with anxiety and how it can reflect on the way we see the world and those within it.

March 13th, 2023: I am in love with a fictional ghost named Ian. He is the kindest, most gentle nature character I have read in a long time.

This was a beautiful story with so much relatability and the right amount of fantasy, the love within this book is warm and everything you could ask for in an MMC. My only wish for this is it needs a tad bit more romance, aside from that I will be recommending this book as often as I can.

I never had read ghost romance, so i didn’t know what to expect. I’m gonna be honest in here, ok?

It does have 🌶️

Let me tell you about this little pnr romance, we have a FMC who has very bad anxiety, we have a really big and old manor, we have obviously ghost, even we got a witch, a single mother and a beautiful little girl whit special needs, our MMC is a ghost a very handsome one.

She always had anxiety, that make her life a little hard so she travels half world for a job in order to get a fresh start, her new job is just a dream (she is a teacher).
So… this women hires her to teach her daughter, they where immediately so comfortable whit her make her feel like home and safe.
Just in the first night she notices weird and scary things, our MMC always save her.

In my opinion I would be perfect if we had more spicy 🌶️ maybe a little more explicit. It’s a short book, it’s good.

The only thing I maybe would like better if they would maybe haven’t fall in love so fast.

This was a fun and different read. I haven't read too many books about ghosts, so I was definitely interested in this one.

I admit it was a little slow getting into it. I loved reading about the history of the Manor and the characters. I loved the mystery and the bit of suspense to figure it out. And the spice definitely new and interesting. Overall it wasn't a bad book, though there were a few scenes that seems to be forced rather than flowing with chemistry.

That whole first chapter though, I definitely related to her anxiety over the whole plane ride and everything. It's something I would completely do.

Thank you to the author and team for a chance go ARC read this.

I didn’t know what to expect going into this as it a little different to what the author normally writes.

And i absolutely adored this beautiful piece of work.

The characters were well written the storyline had a beautiful flow to it .

My second ever ghost romance and it’s was wonderful and sweet Lacey really resonated with me because of her anxiety , she travels to a different land ( Scotland) to teach a young girl.

Ian is a beautiful soul ( a ghost) and i absolutely swooned over him .

Lacey and Ian’s story will last for me for ages.

This book is more of a 4.5 star read for me. I liked how fast paced it was, but I feel like with how fast the pacing was we don’t get as much detail. You still get an understanding of everything, but I like details.

Now what I do love would be Ian and Lacey. Even though Ian is a ghost he is still so protective of Lacey from the moment she stepped into the manor.

I like R. Sullins work but am not overly fond of ghost stories so I was a bit dubious about this one. I needn’t have been a her writing is a lovely as ever!
The characters are good, the plot well laid out and brilliant descriptive scenes.
If you like R. Sullins previous work then it is well worth reading this book.

This was a really great book. I immediately fell in love with the characters and could totally empathize with Lacey and her debilitating anxiety. The storyline was a nice change from what I normally read and I especially enjoyed the curse aspect it added a lot of mystery and intrigue. The writing style was easy to get into and before I knew it I was halfway done, always a good sign you’re loving a book!
Lacey and Ian’s love story is heart wrenching and heart melting. It was quite beautiful to read…from his protectiveness to her complete and utter trust in him.
Great read!

Thank you to the author and @fallencrestcrew for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

More like 4.5⭐️ for me.

I liked this book overall but it wasn’t a total 5 stars give me more kind of read.

I liked the FMC and MMC overall. I was hoping for more in depth writing about the Lacey’s main issue going into the book and development throughout in a more organic way and how she continued to deal with it and eventually overcome it. I really liked Ian and how he protected Lacey when he could. Again, was hoping for more in depth development.

That being said, I’d probably read it again. I did like it. Just not enough for a total 5⭐️.

Ian & Lacey: Not Just Soulmates but Spiritmates! 5 Stars!

I simply cannot get enough of this author’s books! In short, I loved it!

In THOSE WHO WHISPER, we meet a sweet woman named Lacey. As an elementary school teacher suffering from mild OCD and anxiety, Lacey has finds it hard to live her everyday life without having an episode. Deciding she needs a change of pace, she applies for and accepts a position as the private, live-in instructor to a disabled, six year old girl to a single mother abroad. Lacey, using her coping skills learned in therapy, travels to Scotland to begin her new job.

She finds herself staying at a Manor filled with secrets and a curse that has affected generation upon generation of a family line. Lacey becomes swept up in the mystery of the curse when she encounters the curse’s last victim, Ian, a ghost and brother of her employer. Lacey soon finds herself falling in love with Ian’s ghost and does everything within her power to break said curse. Thus, freeing the souls trapped at the Manor. The caveat being that she also will free the man whose spirit she had come to love.

Ugh… the emotions this book will pull from you! I cried twice while reading so KEEP YOUR TISSUES NEAR! YOU WILL NEED THEM! Ian and Lacey’s relationship was a perfect insta love the endured throughout the book. I didn’t think a bond could get any deeper than that of a soulmate. But Ian & Lacey were ‘spirit-mates’. Their spirits were so intertwined it was as if they shared the same heartbeat. These two could not be more perfectly-matched.

This read was not without its level of spice! Yes, lots of ghostly-shenanigans to satisfy the heat you seek and the romance you love. R. Sullins… again you have amazed me with your writing! This is definitely a book to pick up if you want to step away from the angsty, revenge-plot, third act breakup, manipulations and machinations that appear in many romance novels. If you should choose to read it, please go into this book expecting the unexpected and try not to overanalyze everything. If you keep this in mind, you should come out on the other side of this story with a warm feeling and a warm-hearted smile celebrating their HEA.

Happy Reading!

Where has this book been all my life?

OMG! I absolutely and irrevocably in love with this book! If it goes to audio, I’ll be getting it there, too! That’s how much I am in love with this book!

Lacey has struggled most of her life with debilitating anxiety, and she decides to take a job in Scotland at a manor to teach a single child. Once there, she realizes that there is much more to Moreland Manor that she was told – it houses not only ghosts but a curse.

Her first night there, she is nearly drowned by a malevolent ghost and then saved by the spirit of a man who ends up being her employer's brother who died just a month ago by falling off the balcony (aka pushed). She and Ian work together not only to fall in love, even though he is dead, but to get rid of the curse so the ghosts that are there can be at peace. Except Elspeth, the originator of the curse, is bound to kill Lacey and does her best to do it. We discover the reasons for her anger at the family and what spurred her actions to curse the male line to die out after producing another male child. Except with Ian, she killed him off BEFORE he could meet Lacey – since they all knew that if he’d been around when Lacey showed up, that it was inevitable that she would bear the next generation.

As much as she doesn’t want to lose Ian, she knows that Elspeth could turn her attention to Olivia (the child) or Isla (Ian’s sister), so she figures out how to end the curse… and breaks her own heart at the same time.

BUT this story DOES have a happy ending... a surprise happy ending. You’ll have to read it to find out what happens, but it was sooooo amazing! I loved the way this book ended.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

🖤 Those Who Whisper ARC Review 🖤

Thank you so much to R. Sullins for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Those Who Whisper is a paranormal fantasy romance! Lacey has just accepted the job as a tutor for a family overseas. When she arrives at the beautiful Scottish manor, she immediately feels like she’s home. While she adores her new job, she also learns that the manor has a dark secret and she soon finds herself in the middle of a ghost story. She also has found the man of her dreams - the only hitch…he’s a ghost

This was a fun read - full of a historical mystery with a dash of romance. I enjoyed Lacey’s character - she was real and totally relatable. Her relationship with Ian was great, but I wish there would have been more scenes with them getting to know each other. It felt a little insta-love to me and I found myself wanting a little more from their relationship. But that’s a “me” issue and not a book issue

Overall this was a fun three star read for me! This book was a little bit of a slow burn but had a few spicy scenes - so two flames for spice! If you enjoy paranormal romances with spooky mysteries, forbidden romance and found family vibes, then this definitely a read for you!!

5⭐ 3🌶️

I read a good amount of PNR books, but I have never read a ghost one. I did not know what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lacey is such a relatable character. She has inner strength and I loved reading her find it as she stepped out of her comfort zone despite her anxiety. The relationship she builds with Isla and Olivia made me smile.

Ian is an instant protector despite being a ghost and I enjoyed his and Lacey's interactions. Their relationship and love develop quickly but matters such as how long you have known each other does not seem important when you are haunted and cursed by an evil witch and know that if/when the curse is lifted, your time together is over.

I teared up several times while Lacey thought about what will happen when she defeats the witch. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it if you enjoy PNRs.

I wasn’t a fan. I tried, but I just could not get into this book.

I went in knowing it was paranormal romance/mystery, but it was all over the place.

I didn’t feel like the plot flowed well and TBH I think making the book longer would have helped because everything felt rushed.

I don’t necessary feel like there was really chemistry between the FMC and MMC. They were just together and the MMC’s sister was totally okay with the fact that her daughters teacher was getting it on with her ghost brother? Weird.

IDK. I just think this wasn’t my cup of tea.

I am very much a judge a book by its cover girl and I did not have high hopes for this solely based off the cover. Boy was I wrong. Although it’s a very slow build, once the romance starts and the action begins man it really sucks you in. I couldn’t put this down. Ian and Lacey were just so perfect together. It gave me Charlie St. Cloud vibes. I’ve never read a paranormal romance before but because of this book I’ll be seeking more out.

Wow!

I wasn’t sure what I expected when I picked up this book, but it wasn’t this story! The horror part of the story was really well done and definitely creepy! I loved the historical aspects too and all the family history that played a huge role in the story!

The love story was the best though and the twist at the end was something I did not see coming! If you like paranormal/occult this book is for you!

“Those Who Whisper” by RSullins was the first book of hers I’ve ever read. It was so good, in fact, that I’m going to be reading all her books. It was a beautifully written spicy paranormal romance that left me blushing during parts of it. The sex scenes weren’t overly done and created a natural fluidity in the writing. The story leaves you at the edge of your seat and leaves you wishing for a sequel. I highly recommend it.

This is another book I decided to read randomly. I chose the book from the new to me author and the cover. Let me tell you the author did NOT disappoint. Loved this book! The atmosphere from the castle in the Moors was perfect, the anxiety Lacey suffered from felt real and Ian the ghost was smoldering. There’s also the mystery of what happened to the old witch who cursed the whole family generations ago and why. For all the heavy topics it’s actually a light read, perfect for a dreary day with a cup of tea and cozy blanket.

I don’t often read paranormal romance, but the blurb enticed me. Glad I did read this.

Quick read!

I thoroughly enjoyed Ian!

My heart went out to Lacey and her anxiety.

There was a series I had read in the past where the MC was a ghost and it near killed me! I was so hoping somehow he'd come to life. Same here!

Love ghosts and romance, give this one a chance!

A paranormal fantasy story with a ghost romance. Lacey moves into a manor to teach a young resident. She discovers that the manor is haunted and there are secrets surrounding the home. The story has a gothic romance feel to it and the characters are entertaining. The plot was interesting.

This was such a a good, quick read. I fell in love with the manor and it's history as much as I did the characters. I was dying to figure out how the ending was gonna play out. Such a wild ride. This story has great suspense with a splash of horror. All in all a fun, spicy, paranormal read. Spicy ghost scenes? Heck yes. Mystery? Also yes. HEA? Yes 👻

loved this !

This book was awesome. I loved the elements of the haunted manor and an evil witch trying to unalive a whole line. I was sucked into this book and I could not put it down. I was kind of skeptical of how Ian could do the things he did until almost the end of the book. I loved it from beginning to end.
