Celebrate 30 years of Static, Icon, Rocket, Hardware, and the rest of the Dakotaverse in this star-studded anthology. From a Static and Batman Beyond team-up harkening back to their adventures in the Static Shock animated series, a grown-up Raquel Ervin inheriting the mantle of Icon, and a reality-warping story where the present-day Milestone characters meet their 1993 counterparts, there’s something for every Milestone fan to enjoy!
This is such a strange special. I know it's in honor of the 30th anniversary but it would have been a lot less confusing if this had come out before the Milestone reboot.
In the first story, the Milestone of 1993 and the Milestone of today cross over. It was really hard to follow because the characters of both eras look pretty much the same. I often couldn't tell which was which when they'd appear in a panel. I think the best thing to do so you could tell them apart would be to use 2 different coloring techniques for each era because the coloring back in the day was very unique and quite different than modern coloring. But that probably would have been hella expensive to do.
In the next story Batman Beyond is visited by a 35 year old Static. It didn't make a whole lot of sense but was kind of cool. Then the original Icon sends her baby boy to college in a story that takes place after Milestone's 2010 event. I really liked this story. It's cool to see what could have been.
Then there's a story from when the Blood Syndicate took over Paris Island and cut it off from the mainland. It's alright.
Finally, there's a long preview of a Static YA book that's coming out. I'd rather have an original story than just pages from that but beggars can't be choosers I guess. It seems like it will be a solid YA comic at least.
Milestone vs Milestone? Earth-93 vs Earth-1993? or.. Milestone reboot (2021) vs Milestone OG (1993)
However you slice it, you're going to get confused. Characters looks haven't really changed in the intervening years, and the artists they used in this anthology don't do much to differentiate the two eras. ---- Bonus: There's even a Batman Beyond/Static Shock team up (like the wB cartoon days!)
