This is the story of Jay. Jay was merely an abandoned butcher's son, living in a small village on the outskirts of a magical medieval world. He was a nobody, a passing thought. When humans came of age, they would receive their class from a mana conduit which granted them magic powers, and would begin their lives as adventurers. Slaying monsters on a pursuit of strength; it was what he dreamed of - but he would find much more than such trivial rewards. “Status” thought Jay, checking his class. [Necromancer Level 1] “...I'm a Necromancer?!” he was shocked. Looking around in fear, he was glad no one heard him. In this world, this was a monster class, and one of the more powerful monsters at that; a powerful being which, using profane magic, raised the dead to fight on its behalf. Jay knew he would be hunted down and killed on sight. He was not just a threat to the authority of the nobles, but to all living things. If he wants to live, Jay now has only one option - to get stronger; building his necrotic powers so that he may one day become untouchable. This world has placed him at the bottom, but will he defy its order?
Through plotting, secrecy, and sometimes by sheer carnage, he can only attempt to survive in this hostile world. Join Jay as he struggles against all odds and misfortune, against a world that wants him dead, as he secretly rises and bends this world to his will.
This part collects chapter 21 to 53 of the web novel My Necromancer Class
I finished the book and I can say that the book does hold your attention for the most part. I read book 1 in a few settings but had to pick up this book and drop it off a lot more. The story is fine but Jay is becoming the main problem with this series. The MC is slowly turning into a monster and is becoming hard to relate or root for as a character. I do know that this is on purpose, but makes it harder to get through.
You can tell he is becoming psychotic, jealous, and an ass to his "friends." He wants companionship but thinks of the people around him as less then. He wants to get the XP alone and refuses any sort of help other than being forced to work with Anya due to their special classes. The dynamics between the teen characters is awkward to say the least. Usually when you create side characters, its to support the MC. This is not the case because Jay keeps them away from him. I did like the character development of Matheson (The twit noble) and Anya but I couldnt give a rats behind about Jay.
This book deserves at least four stars for its recognition of the inherent superiority of the swag over the traditional tent.
As someone who spent two decades, loving the outdoors and hating camping, because I could never get a good nights sleep in a tent, I feel it is incumbent upon me to recommend to all right, thinking people they consider a swag instead of a tent for camping. Yes it’s heavier and I certainly wouldn’t want to take it on an extended hike but if you’re camping off of a motorcycle or out of a car, it is perfect. Combined with a cot or a stretcher as they refer to it down under, it provides almost as good of a night sleep as my memory foam mattress at home. Which solves the one thing that I always hated about camping, which was never getting a good nights rest.
Some grammatical problems especially at 89% of the book, an entire paragraph that didn't make sense.
Jay is turning into an ass. We saw the beginnings of this in the last book, but this book is compounding the attitude into someone who is truly starting to not care at all about people.
Hopefully this gets resolved in the next book or two.
There is no thought process for anyone leaving you to middle through with vague references and small bits of speech that are purposefully misleading. This is trying to have an eventual twist or surprise, but it is just being very unclear.
It’s extremely slow going on the 3rd books he’s not even level 10 that’s literally the only issue I have with this series so far beside some grammar here and there
