Saki's stories blend laughter and savagery with startling effect. Whimsical in their plots and lightheartedly cynical in their tone, these stories are also given a darker side by Munro's memories of his unhappy childhood with his aunts.Saki was born Hector Hugh Munro in Akyab, Burma (now Myanmar). Saki is considered a master of the short story, often compared to O. Henry and Dorothy Parker. Saki stories are always short but memorable, with finely-drawn characters, unique and macabre situations, and perfectly-timed narratives. In this collection are included his three books - Reginald, The Chronicles of Clovis and the posthumously published The Toys of Peace.

His sometimes macabre satirized Edwardian society and culture. People consider him a master and often compare him to William Sydney Porter and Dorothy Rothschild Parker. His tales feature delicately drawn characters and finely judged narratives. "The Open Window," perhaps his most famous, closes with the line, "Romance at short notice was her specialty," which thus entered the lexicon. Newspapers first and then several volumes published him as the custom of the time.

* a full-length play, The Watched Pot , in collaboration with Charles Maude;
* two one-act plays;
* a historical study, The Rise of the Russian Empire , the only book under his own name;
* a short novel, The Unbearable Bassington ;

* and When William Came: A Story of London under the Hohenzollerns , an early alternate history.
Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll, and Joseph Rudyard Kipling, influenced Munro, who in turn influenced A. A. Milne, and Pelham Grenville Wodehouse.

মাইল্ডলি ইন্টারেষ্টিং।
এই মলাটে, মানে রূপার ছাপানো এই দিল্লীর সংস্করণটায় তিনটা বই জোড়া দেয়াতে টানা ছিয়াত্তরটা গল্প একেবারে পড়া গেলো। প্রথম বইটার নাম রেজিনাল্ড, এরপর ক্রনিকলস অফ ক্লভিস, এই দুইটা বই যদ্দূর আমি জানি ছাপানো হইছিলো সাকির জীবদ্দশায়, পরপরই। এই দুই বইয়ের গল্পের ভেতর প্রথমটার চেয়ে দ্বিতীয়টারগুলি বেশ গোছানো, দুইটারই কিছু গল্প বেশ সুন্দর, পড়ে মনে হয়, বাহ। যেইটা সাকির গল্পে টানা ভালো লাগার মত, সেটা ভাষার উপর তার সাবলীল দখল, অ্যালান-পো আর লাভক্র্যাফট গ্যাং ভাষা নিয়ে জাদুটোনা করে আপনারে এক রকমের কীটপতঙ্গ বোধ করায়ে মেরে ফেলবে, মরার আগে আপনার মনে হবে, আংরেজি ত কিছুই পারি না আমি, আংরেজি নিশ্চয়ই বদ্যি কোবরেজদের বিষয়, আর সাকির ভাষা দেখলে মনে হয়, এত স্বাদু, এত টলটলে, কী অদ্ভূত। সাবলীল ইংরেজির গুরু আমার কাছে উডহাউজ, সাকি হটাত হটাত তাঁর চেয়েও ভালো, এছাড়া তাঁর লেখা বরাবর উতড়ে যায় একটা অনির্দিষ্ট পারা ভেদ করে।
তৃতীয় বইটার, টয়েস অফ পীস, গল্পগুলি অন্তত দ্বিতীয়টারগুলির মতই, পড়তে ভালো লাগে, নড়েচড়ে বসার মত কিছু না। সাকির ভাষা বেশ জোরালো হইলেও তাঁর গল্পে আলাদা করে দেখার মত কিছু পাইলাম না, বা মনে রাখার মত কিছু। কয়েকটা গল্প বেশ ফকফকে, অনেক গল্পই এক ধরনের ভালো লাগা রেখে গেছে, কিন্তু যারে বলবো এলাহি গল্প, এমন দেখলাম না কোনো। সাকি বাঁচেন নাই বেশিদিন, টয়েস পফ পীস তার মৃত্যুর পর প্রকাশিত, এসবই সত্য, কিন্তু এসবই বাজে কথা। কী লিখতে পারতেন তা দিয়ে ত আর আমি লেখারে মাপজোক করতে যাবো না।
সব মিলায়ে, শুরুতে যা বললাম, মাইল্ডলি ইন্টারেষ্টিং। চোখ কচলে দেখার মত আহামরি কিছু নাই, কিন্তু মোটের উপর মন্দ না। একেকটা গল্প নিতান্তই ক্ষুদ্র, উপাদেয়ও কম নয়, ধুপধাপ খেয়ে দেয়া যায়।

Saki's stories here are generally great, while some others are quite a drag, but then among these are a few exceptionally beautiful tales which keep the wheels turning, so to speak.
Not sure if I should see this as a fault or just a style, but Saki loves shooting off the plot on a tangent every now and then, reminding me of "meetings that could have been emails". Maybe this is just a mockery of how people make mountains out of molehills...

4. a)Gabriel Earnest says ”It's quite two months since I tasted child-flesh.”
b) If he wanted to hide that he is a werewolf, he shouldn't say that. It might hit of that.
5. I read ”Gabriel Earnest” on internet. But I don't know what is the site, and find on good reads. So I submit other title of saki (same author). The story was complicated. However, I guess Gabriel kills toop's child and other
children.

The book is really amazing, but what I felt was that it often had some distinct points and sentences which had no relevance with what the main thing was going on, and Saki, in writing all the short stories, has included some similes with his own perspective which might just confuse the reader and make him/her say, "What was that again?" But overall, it is a very nice compilation. Especially, the Chronicles of Clovis was really superb.
