This book was so good because of the way it was told. Not an ordinary demon possession but a chance to decide what side people would like to be on. I enjoyed how the earth began and how people ended up at odds with each other and the gods. The story was spiritual without being preachy. I felt the explanation of the relationship between the gods and those created was so beautiful. Even with the very gore filled scenes (I’ve never had such a descriptive scenes about a body being flayed before), I was able to read the full book. Great read.

A fantasy horror story with a dash of spirituality. Some descriptions of the events in the story isn’t for the faint of heart. Being a big fan of horror stories that didn’t bother me. But, in my opinion the writing was mind bending and the plot was riveting.

Architecture by Paul Flewitt is a novel that grows from a personal mystery into a much deeper threat, taking plenty of fascinating turns along its route.
Early on, we meet Gabriel, dirty and confused: dirty because she’s covered in blood, confused because she has no idea where the blood came from. The only thing she knows is it’s not hers. Worse, this isn’t the first time this has happened. Waking covering in other people’s blood has become something of a routine.
It’s a strong opening, one that causes lots of intrigue. While we’re given hints about who is controlling Gabriel, we’re slowly given more information and work out what she’s part of. Her sister, Rosalie, and her boyfriend Sam try to help, keeping an eye on her and trying to follow her as she sneaks out under the control of some strange entity.
Interweaved with Gabriel’s story, is that of Max Spitz, a young detective who becomes involved into an investigation in the growing number of homeless people.
Could it be that Gabriel is somehow involved in this? Who is the architect behind this scheme, and what is their ultimate monstrous purpose?
Flewitt uses a number of different point of view characters to allow us to watch the plot develop. This goes beyond Gabriel and Spritz which gives us a much better picture of the world this story takes place in. By letting us see the lives of the homeless characters, the way their community is being decimated becomes much more powerful. Forrest and Kit’s relationship, in particular becomes an important part of the overall narrative.
While each section speeds by in itself, there are a couple of perspectives from some of the other police characters that slow the overall pace down a little too much.
Throughout, the writing is tight, the prose depicting some particularly gruesome scenes. The influence of Barker hangs over this one, and if you’re a fan if Barker, or wish to read a story full of intrigue in which the stakes grow ever more serious, I’d recommend Architecture.

In his newest book, Architecture, Paul Flewitt takes the old theme of demonic possession and gives it a unique new twist. There is an array of characters, every one with a tug-at-the heart-strings back story, and the reader wants to jump in and help try to save them all. The horror starts at the very beginning and the tension is palpable, as Flewitt skillfully increases the suspense and the stakes through the entire story. The ultimate good vs evil battle provides an epic ending for this impressive narrative. This is a blood and gore horror story, and if that’s what you like, you’ll love Architecture.

Really cool quick story from Paul Flewitt. Two characters here, Kit and Forrest, are some of my favorite characters I’ve read lately. The story has a decent build and gets a bit more twisty and turny than I expected. Some really good language here too. To be fair, also a few tics and tells that would take me out for a moment,(nothing too glaring) but I wasn’t long to be drawn back in. Absolutely worth checking out and I’ll totally get another from this author.

The imagery conjured in this novel was like something you'd expect from Clive Barker, and I loved it. It's a savage, bloody, visceral story that somehow also manages to not be "just a blood and guts" type of horror. I'd recommend it to fans of that nasty, old-school, 80s kind of horror, occult type stuff, and of course, anything infernal....
