Puck boy? I’ll take it. Heck, I’ve been called a lot worse.

Good time? You know it. Just ask anyone at Brooks University.

From a young age, the only thing in life I’ve ever taken seriously is hockey, and I’m not the guy who anyone—besides family and teammates—can count on. This is all true. At least until a certain curly-haired, blue-eyed goddess comes to me, looking for an easy hookup. And hook her up I do.

But what’s supposed to be a one-night stand doesn’t stop at one night. What’s meant to be easy … sure as hell gets complicated fast. And it becomes clear that Addison LaConte is just as much my savior as she is my demise.

They say if you love something, set it free, and if it’s meant to be, one day, it will return.

Well, I don’t think our story is going to be that simple.

Hannah Gray spends her days in vacationland, living in a small, quaint town on the coast of Maine. She is an avid reader of contemporary romance and is always in competition with herself to read more books every year.

During the day, she loves on her three perfect-to-her daughters and tries to be the best mom she can be. But once she tucks them in at night--okay, scratch that. Once they fall asleep next to her in her bed--because their bedrooms apparently have monsters in them--she dives into her own fantasy world, staying awake well into the late-night hours, typing away stories about her characters. As much as she loves being a wife and mom--and she certainly does love it--reading and writing are her outlet, giving her a place to travel far away while still physically being with her family.

She married her better half in 2013, and he's been putting up with her craziness every day since. As her anchor, he's her one constant in this insane, forever-changing world.

wheewwwwww we did it folks. the book is over so i can finally write this review. i’ll start with the things i liked:
-it’s a hockey romance!! my favorite of all the sports romances
-call me a cavewoman but i love when the love interest beats up the shitty ex

now, for the things i really had issues with:
-the misogyny: honestly a lot of this book read as though it was written by a 20 year old boy raised in an incredibly toxic household. joking about their old coach sexually harassing girls? yuck! layla calling the boys bitches even though women are supposed to be the crazy ones? yikes!!! but also, just all the usage of ‘bitches’ and ‘pussies’ throughout the book when anyone showed any emotion at all was so rough.
-internalized fatphobia: i think addison’s feelings of shame around food are supposed to feel relatable but honestly it just made me uncomfortable. like girl… you don’t need to keep justifying your eating habits to ME! you’re having a snack!!!!! let yourself enjoy food!
-i swear to god we used the words “daddy”, “brother”, and “girlfriend” more times than i thought possible. any two guys talking to each other? oh they’re gonna call each other brother several times. two girls? best believe they’re referring to each other as girlfriend. but worst of all — the constant usage of daddy. :( hated it!!
-it was so unrealistic!!!!! so much shit happened that had me laughing at the absurdity of it all.

honestly, this book made me uncomfy from the get go. 17 pages in i was not loving the dialogue but i thought i’d push through to see if it got better. it didn’t.

Tropes:
- Hockey Romance

- Coaches Daughter
- Forbidden / Secret Relationship
- Single Mom

This was my first read by Hannah Gray and I am not disappointed. I LOVED IT ALL. I kept telling myself one more chapter and before I know it, it’s 3AM!! She knew how to keep me wanting more. Especially with that ending! I was HOOKED.

I went into this one blind as well. I only knew it was a hockey romance and I’m so glad that I did. I loved it so much I had to get the special edition paperbacks for my bookshelf.

The character development for Cam was EVERYTHING!!! The way he cared and loved both Addison and Isla melted my heart. He was amazing with her and if I was Addison I would fall in love with him too. Plus, he will do anything for her. Even if it could kill him. He is definitely one of my top book boyfriends of 2023. And I can’t complain… he was a dirty mouth.

Now it’s time to read everything by Hannah Gray. I cannot wait to jump into Link’s story! 🥰

• Forbidden/Coach’s daughter
• Single mom
• College
• Sports Romance (Hockey)
• Friends with Benefits

Addison got pregnant in high school and after being abandoned by her shitty ex, she struggles with her self-esteem, body image and has major trust issue. She would do absolutely anything for her daughter, but she is always stuck with this nagging feeling that she is never going to be enough.

After moving away from her hometown, her best friend convinces her she needs a night out. Addison doesn’t want any complications, attachments or even talking…just sex. What she unknowingly gets is the school’s famous puck boy Cam Hardy.

Is it like a unwritten rule that all hockey players must be superior book boyfriends? Did I not get that memo? Well, either way Cam freaking Hardy did not disappoint. That boy’s mama raised him right and he has the biggest, sweetest heart and also the dirtiest mouth.

This was my first book by this author, but now I am going to go back and read every single one of hers. The story she crafted was an amazing rollercoaster of emotions. The connection between Addison and Cam is off the charts. I highly recommend this read.

This was my first book I had ever read by this author & I can tell you with all certainty, it won’t be my last! 🫶🏼

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, I didn’t even look up the tropes beforehand, I just wanted to read a hockey romance book & was ready to try a new author and dive in!

Reading books with kids in them isn’t always my favorite because I can’t necessarily relate (yet), but this one was actually so cute and I found myself relating in the sense that Isla’s father wasn’t in the picture but someone else stepped up to be. So that had me pretty emotional. 🥹

I loved how filthy Cam was.. what a dirty talker! 🤭

These characters have my whole heart & I can’t wait to read Hannah’s other books!

Ok. So I’m just getting into sports romance and decided to try this one out because… I live in Michigan and hockey is huge here!
Omg!! I absolutely love this book! Single mom, Addison, got pregnant in high school and the father totally ghost them and ran the family out of town. She swore off hockey players and put her daughter as her number one priority after that. Ignoring every male in her path.
When the family moved to a different state, her father… you guessed it! The coach of the college hockey team makes it quite clear no one is allowed to date his daughter. No one is good enough for his daughter and grand-baby.

A young girl has needs though. She wants a zero strings attached - little to no talking- friends with benefits BUT without the friends part type of relationship with a guy she met up with.
Cam Hardy.
He’s got.
Gorgeous.

Sex is HOT. It’s spicy.
She doesn’t know it yet but Cam Hardy is the campus Puck Boy… her fathers best team player.
“Dating the coach’s daughter is just like playing with fire, and I must be one dumb motherfucker … because I’m okay with being burned.”
Cam and Addy are hilarious with each other but the sex was just so steamy. They meet up in random places for quickies and try so hard to keep the relationship as that. No feelings. Just sex.

“Use me again, Addy. I’d be honored to be your living, breathing dildo.”

Cam falls hard. For her and her daughter.
It’s just a good story.. Ilsa, Addie’s 3year old is so funny and sweet. I loved her with Cam. It’s the sweetest slowburn, secret relationships, single mom, hockey romance!

“It’s hard to risk your heart for something that isn’t promised. But in those rare times when it all works out and when you find that person who sets your soul on fire, awakening every part of you that was asleep, it’s pretty damn beautiful.”

blew me away

*update—I’ve now read this book 7 times and it is still my favorite. Like, ever. The way Cam falls in love with Addy and Isla is the sweetest thing ever.

I did not know I was going to love this book so much. I’ve read over 50 hockey romance books in the past year and this one just shot to top 5.

Tropes: he falls first and hard, single mom, coach’s daughter/forbidden romance, reformed playboy, dirty talking MMC.

I read this on Kindle Unlimited and by the 50% I knew I needed to own the physical copy. I don’t even know the number of highlights I made. The twist - totally didn’t see it coming and had me sobbing. But there is an HEA and it will make your heart smile. Don’t sleep on this book - it’s so worth your time.

Wow this was so bad, and I found myself looking at how many pages I had left just wanting it to be over. The dialogue is cringy and childish. Add the characters ages on top (20-21) and it just didn’t work. The whole things feels very forced and unrealistic; I usually love a single parent and/or sports romance, but this was not it.

As for the dialogue, the author had a tendency to use the same words over and over and over again. (i.e. “Brother” when two guys were talking to each other, “girlfriend” or “girl” when two women were talking to each other, etc.) There was also an unnecessary amount of cussing in the book. Normally that never bothers me (I cuss my fair share), but I found myself getting increasingly annoyed with it. It was like every other word when the guys were talking to each other. I get it - they’re young college students and athletes. It’s supposed to make them seem more macho or something. Maybe it’s just because I didn’t actually like the book, but it was all so OVERDONE! There are so many words available, and I wish the author would have used them.

I give up! Between the over-the-top cringey dialogue, childish characters, boring story line and amateurish writing, this book was a train wreck. Seemed as if I was reading a novel written by a high schooler. Terrible - DNF at 35%. Sadly, it was recommended in the FB surprise pregnancy book group.

The way I liked this book?  It has all the tropes I like and the most lovely story.

We love Cam Hardy and we will do it until the end of time.💗

Starting with this book by this new author (to me) we have Addison, a single mother of the sweetest girl you can imagine, she lives for and for her daughter, but as we read we see a very big evolution with her and we have Cam, our playboy but with heart of gold, he does not want distractions but he meets our protagonist and falls, but he FALLS HARD FOR HER and in a good way;  the tension is palpable on every page, it has a little bit slow burn (they become friends with benefits) and I tell you that Cam's relationship with Isla is without a doubt the most beautiful;  good teammates from whom I look forward to their stories!!

A good read, a good romance with GOOD spicy scenes, a plot that I loved and as I always like to say, a drama to a minimum 🤍

🫂 thanks to @authorhannah_gray and @wordsmithpublicity for give me the arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

______________

sooo where to begin?

Before I say what I say, I just want to make something clear:

Don't take my words as gospel. This is ME. Just MY opinion. So if you're wondering if you should read it, then do it. Don't let my review convince you otherwise.

-

The thing with this book is that it wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. It's fast paced. No unnecessary drama. The characters are like-able. The storyline is intriguing. It is good overall.

What got to me was the use of the words: girlfriend, girl, friend, baby girl, and brother. There is absolutely no reason why you should use these words constantly after what they say. It was so annoying!

So that's already -1 star. Is that harsh? Maybe, but when I say it's overdone. IT IS OVERDONE. There was no need for it. Maybe 4/5 times? Okay, I wouldn't be mad about it, but it's throughout the whole book. At one point I just ignored skipped through those words to make my reading experience better.

As for the single mom trope. Well.... I love it. The idea at least. I'm all for a badass mom raising her child alone because the father was an asshole. Especially in this case because her situation was harsh. I love that Hannah made her character strong even when at times she just wanted to give up. She stayed strong for her daughter and I'm here for it.

What I didn't like was the daughter. It's just something about little kids that speak like they're grown that doesn't sit well with me. But like, maybe that could happen? She was annoying too. Sorry not sorry.

NOW WHAT REALLY HIT THAT 3 star point is the argument. That shit escalated real quick, real fast. It felt forced to me and I didn't like it. It's as if the author didn't know what to do, what twist to pull and just decided to write a fight instead. One moment we're reading how happy and in love they are. Then the next it's: “I hope I never have to see your fucking face again, Addison LaConte. Because I hate you.” UMMM OKAY THAT WAS A BIT HARSH. There was so much Addison could've done. Like UM COMMUNICATE? Easy right? Well no cus she was extra about it. There isn't just one solution to a problem. Also, it was obvious to the whole world what she was doing. You can't go from loving someone and SHOWING YOU LOVE THEM AND THEM KNOWING. To telling them you were lying the whole time and believing it. You know when it's fake and when it's real. That's all ima say.

As for the second little twist. I just.... Idk at that point I was just reading to finish it. It was interesting and different, I'll give you that. But very unrealistic, in my eyes. I understand that it can actually happen irl. What I found unrealistic was what Cam did. Now, I'm no expert here, but I doubt the police would let something like that happen. You can sue for that right? I'm pretty sure officers are getting fired for something like that. With that said I found the cliché light thing funny. I know I know I'm an asshole for that, but it was funny okay!

As for the character themselves, I actually like them. I like how Addison is strong, protective, caring. Cam is funny, determined, loving, sweet (at times). I like most side characters. There's no issue there. I love that it's a hockey romance, reformed fuck boy vibes, he's obsessed with her, reverse grumpy x sunshine. All the tropes you need. But like I said it just didn't give what it was suppose to give. I will be reading Link's and Brody's story so I'm hoping the writing is better.

Stop it...tell me why I loved this book so much.
I had never read this author before and picked this up because of a recommendation. I love sports romance and I needed a series that was already started so I could really dive into the world. I absolutely love connected standalone series where they are all part of a team or friend group.

This book surpassed my expectations and now I'm reading the rest of the series and the author's entire backlist.

Tropes:
Single mom
Hockey player
Ex-playboy
Coaches' daughter / forbidden relationship

Addy is a single mom (Isla is her daughter and is absolutely adorable). Cam is a playboy hockey player. They have a one-night stand and afterwards he can't stop thinking about her. They create a friendship and then add some benefits to it and obviously from there feelings develop.
The emotions run high at times and I'm not afraid to admit I teared up once or twice. The love is deep but so are the fears they have and the obstacles they face are real. I think that was my favorite part of the story; the fear she had, the concern for her and her daughter felt so real, and I could 100% see where she was coming from and why. The third act breakup was understandable, even though it could have been avoided. But humans are fickle sometimes and emotions do not make use act rationally, especially when we're afraid. That ending was not exactly expected either! I won't say more to avoid spoilers.

I'm so excited to continue this series and everything else from Hannah. Definitely a new favorite for me and a new one click author!

I went into this book blind, not sure what to expect at all…. But let me just tell you, this is one of my new favorite books EVER. Definitely a top read this year so far. This book broke me and then put me back together all at once. It also had me laughing throughout the entire thing. I absolutely loved the banter between all of the characters.

I’ve been waiting to read Cam’s story ever since we met him in the Florida East University series & Hannah did not disappoint! I’m not one that usually likes the single mom trope but I loved Cam & Addy’s story so much. Dane & Layla were my favorite couple that Hannah has written and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Cam & Addy (& Isla) have definitely taken that #1 spot!

I would recommend this book a million times over. I can’t wait to read both Link & Brody’s stories when the other two books in the series come out 🥰

Cam and Addison ❤️

• Single mom
• Hockey Romance
• Possessive MMC
• Strong FMC
• Forbidden Romance
• Friends with benefits

"I want to know her story. I’m curious to learn more about her. But she’s cold and closed off, never giving me much of herself besides the best s*x I’ve ever had. Still, I want to know more. And lucky for me, I’m pretty persuasive when I want to be."

These two were so adorable together! Addison was such a strong FMC. She became a single mom at the age of 17 and she was only focused on providing a good life for her daughter! Ignoring all distraction that took her away from her one focus! So agreeing to a friends with benefits relationship wasn't a bad idea. Only Cam had another idea. He wasn't willing to let Addison go, especially after he finds out about her adorable daughter! And quickly falls in love with her too!

"What's the point in trying to stay away when all I want is you?"

"Who would have ever thought the campus puck boy actually had this big of a heart? And the craziest part? He's showing it to me."- Puck Boy (The Puck Boys of Brooks University Book 1) By Hannah Gray

Cam Hardy. This man is the moment. He is the campus playboy and captain of the hockey team. No one has ever knocked him on his ass before. Not before Ms. Addison LaConte.

This girl knows what she wants. And that is one night of fun, dirty, no strings attached sex. And when Cam puts the moves on her in a rare night out, she's like he will do. He's hot he's willing. Let's do this.

Cam has never had a girl spend smexy time with him, then want to leave immediately after, that is, until Addison. She is a girl who is very driven and knows what she will tolerate and what she won't. She has to be. She's a single mom working her way through college to be an RN. To give her daughter the best life since her father isn't in the picture. Also side note, he is a massive chooch, so good riddens!

She has the most adorable little girl Isla and no room for a Cam Hardy in her life. But Cam, for the first time in his life, can't get this girl off his mind. He doesn't even care she has a daughter. He respects her even more for it. The biggest problem? She's the coaches daughter.

I loved this book, something fierce. This was my first Hannah Gray book, recommended by my girl Susan, and it didn't disappoint. I loved it. I loved how real and raw and honest they were with each other. Real life stuff. And it's not always pretty. But Cam, whewwwww the way he sees this girl. You just fall absolutely in love with him. My first Hannah Gray book and now I'm binging the Puck Boys series!!!

🎧Audio listen🎧
Narrators: Heather Firth & Thomas Oakley

Cam Hardy, the southern gentleman that your are. I loved Cam's character so much. Though he's a reformed playboy, he's also known for being extremely kind and down to earth, even as the captain and center of Brooks University hockey team.

Then we've got our single mom and coach's daughter, Addison. Studying to be a nurse and concerned with her career so she can provide for her daughter, she's got no time to mess around with Brooks University's puck boy, Cam Hardy.

Really enjoyed this one- it was such an easy and bingeable audiobook! I was hooked from the start.

I recommend for lovers of:
- college hockey romance
- single mom
- reformed playboy
- coach's daughter

***Critique + spoilers:***
The reason this was 4 instead of 5 stars for me was the reasoning for the (almost two) third act breakup(s) - Addison's jealousy over Cam having a friend that's a girl was over the top. And then when she decides to just break up with him when he gets a call from the NHL? I was not loving Addison's character at that point. But these are just my own opinions!

My first book by Hannah and I loved it! Always looking for a new hockey series and this one I'm so excited for!

Single mum, one night stand and a friends with benefits situation. Cam Hardy is known as the campus playboy and Addison being a single mum doesn't have time to date, she just wanted one night of good sex with no ties so she hooked up with Cam at a party.

Cam has women throw themselves at him constantly and what he didn't expect was her to just up and leave straight after. Addison is such a strong FMC who has been hurt in the past so keeps her heart guarded when it comes to herself and her daughter Isla.

But Cam can't stop thinking about her after that one night. And wants more than one hookup. But can they just hook up and it be nothing more. But also she's the coaches daughter.

I loved Cam and how he was with her and Isla. The ending aswell, I wasn't expecting that and I loved him even more for what he did for them.

Can't wait to meet the rest of the boys!

100% recomendado
