Rhythmic rhyming text asks kid readers to find out how they’d like to read. Jolly, adorable animals and a cute white-skinned, brown-haired child model many possible ways of enjoying a book. A mole “squeez(es) in a nook – a place nobody knows…” while an ostrich “streeetch(es) with (their)book, bending round nose to toes…” Early elementary school teachers will be tickled that the book covers lots of different genres: “You might fly to the moon” (science fiction); “or sail out to sea…” (adventure/pirates); “You might sneak into worlds where dragons could be!” (fantasy).
The vividly colored digital artwork will draw kids in. Little ones will giggle to see all of the animals finding their special places to enjoy books. I imagine that the page with a hippo reading a shampoo bottle while on the toilet will prompt smiles from all readers. One can only hope that young readers’ grownup minders will listen to the book’s message: that kids should choose their own reading material in order to gain a lifetime appreciation of the joy and escape of recreational reading.
"All the Wonderful Ways to Read" is my new "go-to" book for audiences of young listeners/readers during their first visit to the library...and will also be in my Summer Reading Program "launch stash" for the coming summer. The effortless rhyme and vibrant illustrations enhance the overall message that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to read. This story also pairs well with Judy Sierra's "Wild About Books."

This is the sort of book that I imagine could have been written by artificial intelligence, and I expect they would have done a better job. A book about reading books.
Laura Bakerin runomuotoisessa kuvakirjassa fiilistellään lukemisen ihanuutta. Taidan itse kaivata kuvakirjalta kunnon tarinaa, kun tämmöiset eivät hyvästä perusideastaan huolimatta oikein kolahda.
Do you read? I imagine that you are here because you do. I am sure that you love reading and have a special place that you like to go to when you read, a comfy chair in your favourite corner maybe? I love to read with a cuddly cushion or toy in my arms. We all have our little quirks when we read and this makes it so very special.
Laura Baker brings us her Little Tiger published picturebook which celebrates All the Wonderful Ways to Read and is stunningly illustrated with so much detail by Sandra de la Prada. Be certain to take a close look at the pictures for there is so much detail packed into them and they are both bold and bright as well as gentle and comforting. Books are objects that take us on journeys, they give us superpowers, we can go anywhere, and we love to read them we are reminded.
Be inspired by this book, go out and pick it up and then of course pick up some more so your cosy reading corner becomes a library of books just for you!
