The shame of a century-old failure weighs on her shoulders….until a seer names her the next champion.
Ayinda never expected to be thrust into the forefront of her people, especially after being exiled for the last 107 years. Never craving the spotlight, she was perfectly fine being the supporting backbone to others. Yet, the spotlight is exactly what she received when Decheshe, the gifted seer, named her as the newest Eldritch Trials Lyew champion.
Many Lyew, including Ayinda herself, don’t want her representing their species in the Trials. After all, she is engaged to Nicanor, the very man who lost the first Trials that sent them into a hundred-year curse. According to their leaders, she is an unknown and unimportant felyew remembered only because of one very unwise decision. Ayinda was given the opportunity to denounce her engagement from the soon to be exiled loser, but she stupidly did not, thus sealing her fate with his banishment!
Can Ayinda redeem herself, her fiancé Nicanor, and the entire Lyew species as a competitor in the Eldritch Trials? Will she please Mother Goddess by exposing the unethical Lyew Leadership?

The Lyew are trying to recover from the 100 year curse after their last champion, Nicanor, failed the Eldritch trials. Nicanor was exiled from the Lyew and his betrothed Ayinda went with him. When the Hasking Stone lights up again everyone is shocked when the Seer Decheshe names Ayinda as the new champion to face the trials. Noone more so than Ayinda herself, but she is determined to enter and win for redemption for herself, Nicanor, and the Lyew people.
I have to admit I struggled with this book in the beginning. The writing seemed odd to me but I couldn't really figure out why. But I am glad I pushed through. I have enjoyed the world of the Eldritch trials so far and this book brought added so much. Especially the after effects of the curse, as we see the story a few years after the curse was lifted. I like Ayinda as the FMC but the failed trial aggression she had seemed to come out of nowhere given her previous actions. Also the post-trial part of the story seemed very rushed but I did think the ending itself was a great way to end the story.

What stood out the most for me in this book was how love is the center of all things. Ayinda has thrown her life away (that's how most of her eumen see it anyway) by following her betrothed Nicanor into exile after he's failed his trials and doomed their people to 100 years of suffering. However now that their curse is over it is Ayinda (who is a kind hearted soul and a gifted healer) has been selected to complete the Eldritch trial. So much is riding on her success. Not just her people's livelihood but the redemption of Nicanor, the love of her life. It has always been said that Ayinda is destined for greatness, but she doesn't see it. The 6 trials she has to complete are designed to test her virtues and her morals. Can Ayinda survive and pass all 6 trials? And if she does, what will happen to her, Nicanor, and their people? I enjoyed this installment of the Eldritch Trials. I enjoyed how kindness and love stood out as the best qualities. I appreciate how each character has a past that hinders their future accomplishments. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I have been stuck in the fantasy genre for quite a while now. I bought the first book in this amazing series and got the opportunity to receive a review copy for this book. It was just as amazing as the first one even though they were written by different authors. I will be purchasing a physical copy for my bookshelf and cannot wait to read the third book!
