When the world rips away someone you love, where do you turn?
Journalist Joanna Smith is on her own personal mission, and when her obsession with Raptor leads to her losing her job, she gives chase alone. She knows there is more than one face to Raptor and she has private reasons for ensuring she finds and ends every facet of the secretive corporation. But after an attempt on her life leaves her vulnerable, circumstances force her to approach Guardsmen Security for help.
Former SEAL Griff Nyland lives to scale mountains, but when injury puts his future as a climber in the balance, he throws himself into his work as a distraction from an uncertain future. When the assignment is a demanding reporter with a penchant for getting herself into trouble, he willingly takes her on, little realizing there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Griff vows to do whatever it takes to help Joanna find the answers she needs, even if he has to navigate all her protective prickles. And as they follow a buried trail to the icy depths of Alaska, unearthing the spider web of lies Raptor has laid across the globe, the attraction between them explodes. But with their lives on the line, Griff must first resolve his own demons in order to protect the woman who has sparked emotion in him—before time runs out and the hunters silence them for good.
If you're the kind of reader who loves high-stakes romance grounded in real-world research—with damaged military heroes, complex plots, and women who won't be rescued—hello. You're my people.
I write intense, tightly plotted protector romance with covert ops, real-world threats, and hard-won love. My heroes have protection in their bones and loyalty in their hearts. My heroines are smart, self-reliant, and ready to fight—for others, for justice, for love.
Still mad Ripley never got with Hicks? Me too. So I fix that—with heat and redemption.

The Engineer is the fourth book by Theresa Beachman in the Guardsmen Security series. The Operative is charged with tension as they navigate this as bodyguards under fire. Along this journey, we encounter a diverse cast of characters, including resilient women who exude strength and empathy, showcasing their remarkable tenacity in the face of adversity. Alpha males, each of them, balance their bravery with deep emotional struggles, and headstrong women who prove to be their undoing.
Theresa Beachman is a new author to me. I started this series with book four, The Engineer, because the premise sounded interesting. I will, however, not be reading the other books in this series.
Jo, an investigative journalist, hires Guardsmen Security after her investigation into her brother’s death places her in danger. There she meets Griff, the bodyguard assigned to protect her. The two of them set off on the trail of the company she’s investigating, and along the way, they fall in love.
Maybe it was my own fault for starting the series in the middle, but I was confused from the start. It was not clear where the story played off: places in Norway were mentioned, and so were the UK and US. We even had an MMC who underwent BUDS training—I thought this was a US-only thing?—but with a Norwegian surname.
Both main leads’ characterization was inconsistent, and supporting characters came across as one-dimensional. The investigation itself had many gaps, and I often found myself wondering what answers they received to their questions (because it was not specified on-page) and even what those questions were. The relationship between Griff and Jo was rushed and seemed choppy. Background information on both characters was flimsy.
The story started well enough but then soon fell apart. The book title did not tie to the story (or Griff, who I assume was “the engineer”), but because I was interested in seeing how the story ended, I’m giving this one a rating of 2.
This book deserves so much more than the 5 stars I can offer. It really was a fast paced, involving and wonderful romance read. I absolutely loved Griff and Jo.
This was about Jo who was a journalist hot on the track of Raptor, and her being pursued, when she goes to Guardsman Security and Griff is assigned to her case.
The dynamic and attraction made for a close connection between Griff and Jo. Him with his shoulder injury and losses from that, against her being pursued and loss of her brother added to the dynamic of the relationship. Comparisons making it easy and then having commonalities.
Very well written, with that team spirit, and great characters that added to the depth of the story significantly. So well done I cant honestly recommend the book highly enough.
Joanna Smith was anxious about seeing her sister-in-law again following the death of her beloved brother who disappeared during a mission.
She was greeted coldly by Allie who was quick to cut the visit short...

A pleasant volume to read and which features two main characters, Joanna and Griff, who are rather withdrawn and calm, and who both have certain wounds to heal.
It's not my favorite volume of the series, but I had a good time reading discovering that the heroes of the story also had the right to a little happiness...
The Engineer is Book 4 in the Guardsmen Series. This is an exciting, fast paced, suspenseful romance, with some awesome characters. Griff & Jo have an explosive connection, and they grow closer as Griff helps keep Jo safe and get answers regarding Raptor. I do recommend reading the rest of the series before diving into this one.
