Rebel Kings MC #5

Reluctant Renegade

Rate this book
“I was never scared of dying until I loved you.”

The shy single dad and the gentle assassin. Domestic bliss and a bloodthirsty revenge mission battle it out in the emotional fifth instalment of the bestselling Rebel Kings MC series.

Decoy
I met a dude in a bar once. Tall and strong, he had moon-blue eyes and tawny hair, and he moved with the grace of a lion.

It didn’t pan out, but that’s a theme in my life, and I’ve spent the last five years knowing that kind stranger dodged a bullet.

Divorced and miserable, I’m not exactly a catch.

But the thing is, that man...he’s not a stranger anymore.

And he’s as beautiful as I remember.

Everything you want in a fake boyfriend, right?

Don’t ask me to explain that one. But let me tell you I thought my biggest fear was losing my daughter. Then Folk came home, and I realised you can give your heart to more than one person.

We have a second chance. Goddamn, we deserve it.

But this life, man. It’s a journey.

And there’s no guarantees we’ll both make it to the end.

Reluctant Renegade is an MM/gay biker/MC romance. Content warnings for everything you’d expect in a sizzling biker romance, in addition to divorce/custody stress, addiction, and mental health rep.

Reluctant Renegade is book five in the Rebel Kings MC series by Garrett Leigh. I believe I have gone through these same feelings every time I finish a book from this series. Awe, endless love for the characters, fatigue from staying up too late reading because I couldn’t stop. This is Folk and Decoy’s book and it was everything and more I hoped it would be.

Seth “Decoy” Greene is about thirty years old and a member of the Rebel Kings MC. We have met him in the previous books and are aware of what his ex-wife puts him through on the regular regarding the daughter they share. Her cruelty has no boundaries in what she’ll do to manipulate the situation. Decoy wants full custody and what better way to get it then to prove to the courts he has a solid partner. Even if that partner is a fake one. But in Decoy’s heart, he doesn’t want it to be fake at all.

Folk Julian Whitlock is nearly thirty five years old. Both Folk and Decoy are ex-military. Folk is newer to the Rebel Kings, having come from another club about a year ago. He’s still finding his place with the Kings. The one thing he does know is that Decoy is his “one.” And he will do whatever he has to do to keep him and his little daughter safe.

When I started this book, the first page was all it took and I was completely immersed back into this world, even though it’s been awhile since I read the last book. That’s how compelling Garrett’s words are. What these men have to go through to stay safe, the things they will do to protect one another. It seems like they just can’t catch a break. Since the first book, I have fallen so in love with the men in this club. Now, I can’t wait for the next book, Unholy Trinity, which will be the first menage of the series, Locke, Nash & Orla’s book. Believe me when I say I am on pins and needles.

Worst book hangover ever!

***

Well, I'm coming back to this review a few days after putting down this book and I'm still struggling for words to describe just how visceral an effect this book had on my heart.

I've always been a Garrett Leigh super fan, this book just cements why she owns my soul.

Her writing of these two men doesn't go all flowery and poetic, although there are quiet moments where you get such a depth of feeling from Decoy and Folk it's palpable and the words pull you right into the almost uncanny perception they have of each other's whereabouts.

No, instead they are raw, they're full of passion and emotion, they're rage and joy, despair and hope, they're all bundled together into a narrative which has you swept helplessly along as the day to day life of these two Reluctant Renegades mingles and deepens the more time they have to reconnect.

You see, they met each other once, in a seedy backstreet bar, in a hot climate overseas, when both were still serving members of the military. Being gay wasn't forbidden back then, but it wasn't easy to be open either, so they kissed, they connected, discovered the dog tags and they parted before anything more could endanger their positions.

Five years passed before they were thrown together during the conflict with the Crows, Folk on the wrong side of that war for a time before the Rebel Kings gave him a home the same as they'd given Seth and his daughter Ivy.

No plot spoilers here except to say Garrett has crafted characters within this series whose evil pours off the page and there's a whole load of karmic energy coming home to roost in less than pleasant ways for more than a few of them.

Something which had me happily celebrating their fate and wishing every horrible eventuality on more than a few heads more.

We're also left with a bit of a mystery about one of my favourite Russian mercenaries, so I'm really hoping there's something more coming for Viktor, Jakov and Ranger!

However, up next is Nash, Orla and Locke's MMF romance and I am so here for that! We get to see a bit more of the tensions pulling them together in this book and it's delicious.

#ARC kindly received from the author via GRR and Foreward PR. I am voluntarily reviewing this book.

I shifted onto my side in the same moment he did. Reached for him. Found his hand open and waiting.
“I really want to kiss you,” he whispered. “But I don’t think I can stop.”
A startled grin split my face. Was he inside my brain? “Me too.” I kissed his knuckles instead.

I loved this so much more than I thought. Everything was perfect. I loved how their relationship didn’t go too fast or slow. I also loved their little moments. Like the passcode.

“What’s your passcode?”
I told him and his gaze flitted back to me. Warmth heated my cheeks, making me glad it was dark. “What? It’s easy to remember.”
He let it go and typed his own name into my phone,

Like that was so adorable. I was screaming into my pillow at 2 am just dying from cuteness. They were the couple. Like I wasn’t expecting them to be together, but I’m so happy that it happened. They are my absolute favorite.

Nash was my brother and I loved him, but there was nothing on this earth that came close to Folk’s gentle touch and ocean scent. Folk embraced me. He kissed my temple, saying nothing, but saying everything with the warmth and empathy I’d come to rely on.

Ivy and Folk’s relationship was so sweet. I loved how easily he fit into their tiny family. Everything just made sense when they were all together.

I nudged the kitchen door shut and turned on the radio, shutting everything and everyone out. Then I made him a breakfast he could eat one handed while he played thumb wars with his kid and I banked their laughter for every lonely moment life had coming for me.

One thing that I didn’t expect was was Alexei and Folk’s friendship. It was special in their own little way.

Alexei rolled his eyes and walked away, crossing the yard to Folk and embracing him with a warmth that should’ve surprised me. But knowing what I did about Folk and Alexei’s unique friendship, it didn’t. Between them, they’d moved heaven and earth to help the other reach this point, and neither one of them would ever forget it.

I love this series so much. I cant wait to read the last book.

“That I thought it was outrageous I didn’t get a chance to kiss you back last time. Now I’m wondering if the universe was trying to save me from something.”
“That’s not scientific.”
“I’m not a scientist. Just an idiot with mad feelings I can’t shift.”
“If that makes you an idiot, then I’m an idiot too.” To prove my point, I kissed him again. And again, it swelled into something we couldn’t control, knocking us both off balance until it was my turn to break away.

This is my absolute favourite MC series and I really loved this instalment. Completely demolished this book and could not put it down, I just couldn’t get enough of Folk and Seth as well as all the glorious inclusions of my other favourite characters. I was so happy to see lots of Alexei, a fave character of mine, as well as some exciting hints for possibly a future story for his mysterious Russian associate.

I love the balance of romance to darkness in this series. There is plenty of violence and real life hardships but also beautiful friendships, found family and gentle caring moments between the characters. I can’t get enough of this world and am really looking forward to future books.

I am sad we didn’t get any Skylar in this one, hoping his book is in the pipeline too🤞🏽

ALL THE STARS. Folk and Decoy 🥹🥹🥹 I don’t even know what to say.. these two ♥️♥️ they just made me melt 🫠🫠

“But you will come back . . . right?” “That’s the plan.” Folk stepped into my arms. “And when I do, we can have that conversation about loads of kids and how much I love you. But I have to do this first.” 😭😭

I miss them already.. I can’t wait for the next book 🤩

The Rebel Kings MC is one of my favourite series and Reluctant Renegade was an amazing addition to it! I absolutely loved Decoy and Folk’s story; it was much more domestic than I thought it would be, and on the sweeter side. It was beautiful to see how natural and seamlessly these two fit into each other’s lives.

Decoy was the absolute sweetest man ever and the whole thing with his ex Lauren made me so angry, he deserved so much more and I loved the support he had from the club, especially Folk. The second chance / missed opportunity worked great between them, and together with their “fake” relationship built up some tension and heat.

I also loved that Alexei had a bit of a central role here, and that they were more of his ops shown here together with Folk. There are a bit of continuous plot going on in this series and I liked how some of it got tied up here, even if Folk and Alexei had me really worried a few times…

I really enjoyed Reluctant Renegade, Decoy and Folk had me from the first chapter and I didn’t want to put their story down. I highly recommend this entire series, it’s amazing and Garrett Leigh writes these gritty, dark MC romances so well!

My Faves!!

Decoy - serious brother not really up for the illegal stuff because of his daughter

Folk- adopted from the crows and has proven super dependable.

Not gonna lie when this pairing was announced I was like “huh?” But by the time the first chapter was over I was HEAVILY rooting for them as a couple. The chemistry was through the roof!

These two… honestly got me in my feels from the very beginning and didn’t stop squeezing my heart every time they were on page together till the very end. Soulmates from the start, mixed with maturity in spades, I simply could not get enough of them.

Of course, not all was rosy with the Kings, especially with their enemies coming at them and the nastiest Ex I’ve had the displeasure of reading about this year also causing havoc Willy nilly . However, like the champs they were, they made it work and came out the other side as an unshakable unit.

This is currently my favourite book of the series so far and although I enjoyed the previous books, this is a clear winner in my eyes. I Absolutely loved it! Will definitely be re-reading in future.

Decoy and Folk's story was just as captivating and exciting as I was hoping.

The book starts with a scene set a few years before the main events, when both MCs were in Cyprus and met for the first time. It was a very brief meeting but they both left an impression on the other.

The main storyline continues, with friends and foes of the club and the Rebel Kings trying to find a balance and establish their business.

There's a forced proximity trope but the forced part doesn't really last very long. Folk and Decoy are good together, mature and down to earth. Decoy's ex wife is even worse than she was in the previous books and the tension between Nash, Locke and Orla is climbing higher all the time.

I liked Folk's relationship with Alexei and how close they'd become. The action scenes here are mainly shared between those two and near the end there're also some angsty chapters. In general, the story kept my interest from beginning to end and I didn't feel like there were any unnecessary scenes.

I look forward to the next book in the series. I recommend reading the books in order even though each one (after the first two) has different main characters.

I adore all of the characters in this series. The romances are all so intimate and intense, but the friendships and found family connections are equally powerful. In this one, we focus on Decoy and Folk, a pairing that while I hadn't seen it coming, ended up working beautifully. There was a fated mates feel to their love that truly made it feel like they had always belonged to each other. The main stories in this one were heavy; Decoy suffers tremendously at the hands of his ex-wife and endures it because of his love for his daughter. The other main plot line involves a dangerous plan devised by Alexei and Folk, and kept hidden from everyone for their protection. Both plotlines ended dramatically, but in a way that was satisfying and left everyone stronger. These books just do an amazing job at making me feel full- full of emotion, and full of desire for more. I'm excited for the next one, and for any others Leigh plans to write.

Wasn't too sure what to expect going in, but I'm pleasantly surprised by this book. Decoy & Folk's story was sweet with an interesting plot.

I loved that Alexei was besties with Folk, not something I was expecting but it meant we got a lot more Alexei in this one! And we know I adore that man!

I'm so glad we had a resolution to Decoy's custody battle with his ex-wife and it was a satisfying conclusion. Folk and Decoy's fake dating plan was hilarious especially as they both knew they were very attracted to each other. Cute, dumb little babies!

Book Series Ranking:
1. Devil's Dance & Saint's Song - 5 stars! (Alexei, Saint & Cam)
2. Reluctant Renegade - 5 stars! (Folk & Decoy)
3. Love Thy Brother - 4 stars! (River & Rubi)
4. Forgive Me Father - 3 stars! (Mateo & Embry)

The good
+ Their first meeting. Folk was so conscientious and accommodating. His emphasis on consent and giving Seth plenty of time to leave were very kind
+ The honesty between them, both in the things they told each other and about the fact that there were things they couldn't talk about
+ The honesty about their feelings
+ Folk telling Decoy he wanted lots of children like it was a foregone conclusion they'd be together for the rest of their lives
+ Their confidence in each other's romantic feelings
+ Decoy trying to be a good parent
    + Folk's natural parenting skills
+ The whole MC. Everyone is so free with their affection for each other
+ All of Ivy's honorary uncles and aunt

The neutral
o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased
o I forgot who Rocco was to Folk and Locke, and I'm still not sure now. A little more recap on that part would have been nice
o I have to admit I'm hesitant about the next book (Orla, Nash and Locke), because the dynamics I've seen between those so far don't really appeal to me. But I guess we'll see when it comes out

The bad
    - Ivy had a half-brother, and Decoy was worried about him. But Ivy never mentioned her brother and in the end the brother just went with his biological father and nobody even bothered to check up on him
    - Decoy spent so much time and effort in being a good father on paper because of the custody battle, it seems like he sometimes forgot to be a good father right then to Ivy as well. It was clear Ivy's mother wasn't taking good care of Ivy (like when she didn't even bother doing Ivy's hair for school), and especially after it became clear that Ivy wasn't safe with her mother. The custody battle could take years, and Decoy was too focused on that future instead of the trauma Ivy was suffering in the now sometimes
    - Decoy put all that effort in being a good father on paper so he could gain custody, and then everything was resolved . It seems like such a waste for Decoy to have gone through everything and then have it resolved so quickly and not according to plan at all. It felt anticlimactic to me, while it was supposed to be a climax I suppose

Decoy and Folk really do belong together. I very much enjoyed their connection, their honesty and the talk of their future together. The MC was really schmoopy and everyone was very free with telling each other how much they're loved and appreciated. I really like this found family. I wonder what the next book will bring, and though I'm a little hesitant, I'll definitely give it a chance. Would recommend this book and the series until now.

December 2015: Decoy and Folk are still my very favorite couple in this whole series. I’d love to live in their world with them. That epilogue is the best. 🤌🏻🥰🤌🏻🥰🤌🏻

November 2024: My favorite book of this series!! I love Decoy and Folk so much. The way they parent Ivy, the way they love each other and as a family…it ticks all my boxes. 🥰🥰🥰

July 2023: I really love this series. If I had to choose a book world to live in, this would be one of my top 5 choices. Decoy and Folk may even have usurped the title for my favorite couple (of this series). I loved the way they loved each other and Ivy. The way Folk stepped up to support and help Decoy when his ex keeps giving him a rash of shit was great. Folk is just so protective it made my heart happy.

The communication between the two MCs was stellar. I loved that even when there were things Folk couldn’t tell Decoy, he stated it in such a way that let Decoy know he didn’t want to keep things from him but he had no choice. Right from book one, the club has been focused on shielding Decoy from stuff because of Ivy. That continues in this book since Decoy and Ivy are well loved by the club.

It was nice to finally get to know Folk. He had always been a quiet shadow in the background since he became a Rebel King. I was always curious about him. Now I’m looking forward to reading Nash, Orla, and Locke’s story. The release date is March 2024. I really hope we don’t have to wait that long! 🤞🏻

This might actually be my favourite of the series so far and I did not see it coming 😭

Despite not getting to know Seth and Folk huge amounts in the previous books I totally became obsessed with them. They were so wholesome and cute 😭 Folk might be the loveliest assassin ever.

Alexei was the best side character as usual and despite the fact kids usually piss me off in books, I really liked Ivy and that whole storyline.

This story was really well fleshed out and I liked that the drama didn’t stem from Seth and Folk’s relationship because those boys needed to catch a break.

One thing that I’ve noticed about this author though is that she doesn’t like dialogue tags and sometimes I have to read a section a few times to work out who’s saying what and that’s annoying.

It also irritated me that we didn’t actually ever find out what was wrong with Embry. Like he was sleepy and then he had surgery but we never got told why? It was weird.

Well, Garrett Leigh has done it again. I’ll be honest - the actual biker politics of this series has gone completely over my head because I’m too busy swooning at these characters finding their happy ever afters.

Decoy and Folk were EVERYTHINGGGGGG. Like. I wasn’t sure what to expect because in the previous books they were both very much in the background but they both wormed their way into my heart and now I am never letting them go. Decoy and Folk’s story is one of second chance romance. They originally meet at a bar and are about to hook up but stop when they realize they are both military. They both end up in the Rebel Kings motorcycle club by chance but they don’t engage until a situation forces them together. Throughout the book Decoy is dealing with a custody battle for his daughter against his ex-wife. Decoy’s lawyer suggested he get serious about dating as he will have a better case for getting more custody of Ivy. Decoy doesn’t take it too seriously but then Rubi comes up with the genius idea that Decoy should fake date Folk because of his clean record, being good with kids, and basically being just the sweetest guy around. The two agree, especially after outside drama forces the club to take more precautions thought no one else in the club is aware of their almost hook up.

To start with Decoy (Dilf???) he is the best father to Ivy. He cares SO much and it’s so evident in all the bullshit he had to go through on a daily basis. He’s just such a GOOD GUY. Like his ex wife is quite literally the devil and even so he refused to say anything bad about her or call her names because she was still Ivy’s mother and he didn’t want to taint that relationship.

And now Folk (actually Prince Charming?) - I actually forgot when I started reading this that Folk wasn’t originally a Rebel King. He has such solid relationships with a lot of the Kings that you wouldn’t think that he hadn’t been there the whole time. He also just cared so much for Decoy. (Every time Folk called him by his real name I swooned so hard). I also loved that during this whole thing Folk is also working on a secret mission with Alexei and no one even guesses that he’s just as much of a badass simply because he doesn’t have tattoos. Incredible.

“I told Alexei I loved you today.”
Behind us, someone beeped their horn. Over the thump of my heart, I barely heard it. “Lucky Alexei.”

The second chance romance between these two was top tier. There was that nice little bit of hesitation and a “we shouldn’t but we’re going to anyway”. Plus the cameos from all the other Kings were so perfect + the teasers for the next book (I will not apologize for the person I will become when Orla/Locke/Nash comes out) were sooo good! And omg the whole found family moment and solidarity with Ivy had my heart ready to burst. This series has truly been such a delight and I will be so sad when it is over.

“I don’t want that. I’d never jump again if you asked me not to.”
“I wouldn’t do that. I love this version of you. I’d never ask you to be someone different.”
“You love me, Seth?”
I turned my head to kiss his temple. “More than you know.”

This is such a solid series filled with Motorcycle bad asses who have heart, found family, and steam. I loved Decoy & Folk so much.

Favorite Quotes:

half a decade after I’d first laid eyes on him, I still didn’t know what to do with the mess he made of my insides.

And let me tell you, no one else on this planet had that power over me— the ability to reroute my every thought just by existing. Only him. Only Seth Decoy Greene.

“I was never scared of dying until I loved you.”

“Because you’re a forever kind of love, brother. And one day you’ll believe that you’re worth it.”

This book is so sweet, while keep trying to gave us some action, but mostly is a book to just enjoy the trip and the couple

Decoy is a single father, trying to pursue his daughter custody on the court and survive his crazy ex wife.

Folk is a guy with too many ghosts on the closet, but always trying to help every guy in the club.

In the middle of that we have a drunk Rubi suggesting that maybe they should fake date for the sake helping Decoy to have a better image to the judge.

And about how the plot is developed, I loved that Decoy didn't just accept this fake dating thing (even having feelings for Folk), he put his daughter above everything and they just get together when they couldn't deny the reasons for that.

I loved how they helped each other to overcome their fears, and just let themselves enjoy a good simple life (even with Alexei's crazy missions)

Overall it was a good book. Perfect for when you just want to enjoy a good couple.

I feel like cause I took my time to read this, i appreciated if more than I thought I would.
I won’t lie, when I saw the little tidbit in the prologue I was sure I’d hate this one because for the life of me, I’ve never enjoyed second chance shit. color me surprised because Seth and Folk have my whole heart.
The single dad thing ATE and left no crumbs as it always does.
I need Locke, Nash and orla like I need air.
Alexei is the STAR of the show as always.
Normally I’d hate the authors consistent mention on saints green eyes but it makes his character so endearing and amplifies the air of mystery around him so I’m not mad about it.
Embry and Mateo are adorable. Always have been. Always will be.
Can’t say I care much for River and Rubi, i still think River doesn’t deserve him.
This is a perfect balance of Romance, dark drama, found family, fraternal love, gay people. So many gay people i adore this world.
There’s a huge red flag I left out but red is my favorite color.

I can't imagine there will ever be a book in this series that will not be a 5 star read for me. All these characters are crafted with so much love and care that it is impossible not to love them. Folk and Decoy are different from the older Rebels but they fit right in. And Ivy is adorable. What is even better is her relationship with all the guys. Seeing her and Decoy happy with Folk is everything! They so deserve that.

This was everything I needed this book to be and soo much more! Garrett Leigh has done it again!! Will write a proper review when my thoughts are a bit more collected.

—————

“Because you’re a forever kind of love, brother. And one day you’ll believe that you’re worth it.”
~ Garrett Leigh, Reluctant Renegade 🖤🏳️‍🌈

This book was everything I needed it to be and more. Garrett Leigh always creates magic with her writing and she Did it again. The Rebel Kings series is one of my absolute favourite queer romance series! It’s very much a high-stakes-suspense kind of romance series, which is my favourite kind! There is a lot of dark elements, which is expected with a MC-romance, but what makes these books so special is the mix of gritty and violent darkness and super affectionate found family moments 🖤

This one is the fifth in the series and it has a different sort of pacing compared to the other books. They are all very action-filled, but this had a little bit less action, BUT the action that was there might have been the deadliest and most brutal moments of all books 😉 The different pacing of this really just fit with the story for Decoy and Folk though, since it’s their book. It was perfect. These two just fit so seamlessly together in such an amazing way. I’ve loved Decoy from the start and was beyond excited to find out he was getting his own book, and now I love Folk equally. They just make sense together and I loved that there just wasnt much angst about that part of their story. There is tons of other stuff going on to be angsty about, but they were both very open with how they felt about eachother from the start and that never really changed. They just needed to figure out the ”logistics” of it.

Decoy is the a shy single dad that loves his daughter over everything else, and is trying to stay out of the more violent side of club business because of that. Folk is, before this book, also a more silent character because he was previously part of another club, that the Rebel Kings has been in war with for a very long time, and recently joined after some really big things going down. Decoy and Folk have met before then though, in a very different environment, and get a second chance at their relationship 5 years later when Folk now has joined the Rebel Kings. So that’s where their story kind of starts up again, and then they get pushed into a situation of fake-dating (but not really fake) for Decoy to basically get a better chance of getting custody of his daughter. And this is all handled in such great way too, since it’s obviously a very difficult, and serious, situation. But I honestly felt like this book was Decoy, Folk and Ivy’s story, all three of them needing to figure out things and how they fit as a family. I loved all those ”family-moments” most of all in the book, and how, again, Folk just fit in straight away.

Something else that felt very special with this book was Folk’s relationship with his family. His family was amazing, and it was so nice to have a character in this series be so close to their family outside of the found family of the club. His mom and sister was especially amazing! 🖤

The last thing that I absolutely adored in this book was the close friendship that has blossomed between Folk and Alexei. That bond is so special and definitely not something I expected. If you’ve read the previous books and already know Alexei, you would understand what I meant. But yeah, their friendship and how affectionate they are with eachother was so special and exactly what I feel like Alexei’s character growth needed as well 🖤

Trigger warnings: There are some more difficult parts, about custody struggles, and also some child abuse, as well as mentions of addiction that made me very emotional while reading. It is handled with a lot of love in the book though, and is all an important part of the story, but still wanted to mention it in case this would be triggering for someone.

So grateful to Garrett Leigh and ForewordPR for sending me an ARC of this!

Seth "Decoy" Green meets Folk in a military bar. They are immediately drawn together. What starts as a potential hookup leaves them both disappointed when they realize they couldn't due to their jobs. Years later, Folk is brought into the Rebel Kings. Decoy has made a place for himself in the club. He is a quiet, dependable dad who would do absolutely everything for his daughter. Despite a messy divorce and a crazy baby mama, he stays alive simply for his daughter. He keeps his eye on Folk and watches him from afar. Folk also watches Seth. He loves how he is with his daughter. But he also sees the cracks he is showing. When there is another problem for the MC, Decoy and Folk are forced together to stay safe.

I absolutely adored this story. I felt for Seth from the very first page. He was amazing with his daughter despite everything that was going on with his crazy ex. I love that he does go to the extreme to keep his kid safe. I do wish he would have gotten some closure with the elder son, though, maybe even meeting with his father and him.

My only issue with this book was I wanted to know more about what was happening with Embry. His health problems start in the second book and carry over to his own book and through the next book, but they seem to come to a shocking end in this book. We get bits and pieces but never the full story, which makes sense since it isn't his book, but there are still so many little details I need to be filled in. I think the next book is the one I'm least excited for as I am not into MMF at all, and it seems to be going that way, but at the same time, I love how all books show all characters, and maybe that will be the way to get updates on Seth/Folk and Embry/Mat.

I knew at 16% in that this was a 5 star read and wow it did not disappoint at all!!

Folk and Decoy are not a couple I was expecting but they are now everything I didn’t know I needed. The second chance aspect and fake dating just added to it. Perfection absolutely perfection.

“I always wanted you to know that walking away from you was one of the hardest things I ever did.”

The pining between these two absolutely killed me. They were so down bad from the start. They were it for each other even after all the time passed. 🥹

“I’d learned to be brave with him. That for all the steady calm he saved for everyone else, Folk was a man of extremes.”

The friendship of Folk and Alexei was fun to read because we haven’t seen him from this pov this closely that wasn’t Cam or Saint so I enjoyed that.
But I also enjoyed the other characters appearances and they never took away from Folk and Decoy. Something about these rough tatted biker men having a soft spot for all the kids make me insane.
Lauren was the actual worst but I like how that whole situation was handled.

Anyways, folk and decoy have my heart forever and I will be thinking about this for the rest of eternity. I can’t wait for Nash, Locke, and Orla’s story next.

I received this arc in exchange for an honest review

Edge-of-my-seat action and danger!

Garrett Leigh’s writing just about kills me – in the best way. Reluctant Renegade is full of action and suspense, danger and death, but it’s also full of love – lots of different kinds of love. There’s the family love that Decoy has for his daughter, and the love between all of the Rebel Kings brothers, and the love between Decoy and Folk.

Every story in this series has pretty much blown me away. I wouldn’t normally read a motorcycle club (MC) romance but I’m a huge fan of Garrett Leigh’s writing and I’m so glad that I didn’t pass this series up.

Decoy loves his daughter, Ivy, more than anything but his ex-wife is determined to make his life hell. I can’t believe the horrible things she did to Decoy but I loved how this situation got resolved!

Decoy and Folk had a moment five years ago and now they are pretending to be boyfriends to help Decoy in his battle for custody of Ivy. The Rebel King’s brothers who helped engineer this had a feeling that it would end up becoming real and boy did it ever.

There are several reviews written on Goodreads that are better than anything I can write myself. As a favorite audiobook performer would say “words are hard” and I’m having difficulty writing a meaningful review. I loved this book and just want to savor this story and let it settle for a while.

I can’t wait to read Unholy Trinity: Locke, Nash, & Orla. MMF romance was my gateway to MM and I know I’m going to love this story.

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
