Mark Black said “Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax.” The first time I heard that I laughed. Even as I read it when picking up this great read by Max Sampson I laughed again because I never relax and I am great at being stressed. Needless to say Max’s 13 methods to stop stress has been a valuable read. In “Stressed Out” Max shares that “Those who live by a just stop worrying approach to anxiety and those who actually understand what anxiety is.” Well, I have been dealing with anxiety since the early age of 12 so I quickly read through Max’s powerful methods in order to see what I can learn to curve anxiety and stress. In his book Max shares his story, teaches what stress is, how to identify it and understand it, realize your stress triggers, then what can be done to fight the demon of stress and anxiety through battle tactics (my name for his steps to overcome anxiety and stress). My favorite battle tactic that I was not familiar with was drawing. Max shared that “drawing for five minutes a day can greatly influence your stress levels in a positive way (Elmer, 2022)…. Drawing is a wonderful way of managing stress because it allows you to be mindful.” Who knew? I have a trauma background and always knew writing and coloring but not drawing! Not only does Max share great strategies to calm down and relax as well as other key pieces of mental health and being stressed out. Max shares two great acronyms: Please and Stopp to help the readers develop new habits and take control. His book is quick, to the point, and accessible to the daily routine and life is all types of people.
As a therapist, i have helped those with burnout and been affected by it myself. I have read a lot of books on a variety of mental health topics and approaches. What sets this book apart is its no-nonsense approach to tackling stress. Sampson cuts through the fluff and delivers straightforward strategies that are easy to implement and highly effective. From mindfulness techniques to cognitive-behavioural strategies, the book covers a wide range of methods designed to help readers recognize stress triggers and manage anxiety in healthy ways. It is also one of the best psycho-educational resources on stress that I have seen. understanding stress and how it works goes along way to managing it.
One of the book's strengths is its emphasis on empowerment. Sampson encourages readers to take an active role in managing their stress, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to regain control over their lives. This empowering approach is both refreshing and inspiring, reminding readers that they have the power to overcome even the most daunting challenges.
Overall, "STRESSED OUT" is a valuable resource for anyone looking to gain control over their stress and anxiety. While it may not have all the answers, it provides a solid foundation for building resilience and finding peace in the midst of life's challenges. Highly recommended.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I’ll start by saying that I accepted this book because of the extreme anxiety and stress I’ve been experiencing for years now. I’ve never voluntarily read a self help type book before and thought it couldn’t hurt. In high school they had us read one in a career help class they had us take freshmen year. Other than that I’ve never read one.
The audio narrator did a great job reading this book. No awkward gaps in reading, drastic changes in volume, etc. There was a couple words that were pronounced differently than I’m used to which gave me slight pause but that was a me thing not an actual issue.
The book itself was well organized and wonderfully written. It was an easy transition from one chapter and or topic to the next. There was definitely a few things I hadn’t read online before. I’ve done my own research on how to destress my life previously. Overall I’m glad I ended up “reading” this book.

A fantastic book about a touchy subject that will be able to help you if you are open to trying the techniques presented by the author.

Who is not stressed? This is a book that almost everyone should read. I think most of us feel, at least sometimes, overwhelmed by our responsibilities, work, relationships, or little things that add up, but we are so used to it that we don't notice it. Stressed Out by Max Sampson proposes a guide to recognize what stresses us and offers different tools and methods to address it and help ourselves. It is not a magical book; in fact, it proposes quite simple and everyday things but it helped me connect in the search for relaxation and peace of mind. I recommend it for anyone who needs to take a break and think about their well-being.

Really useful step by step approach - very useful for understanding how to destress and avoid burnout
The writer has built in little exercises for self reflection. The language is simple and easy to follow. Each task flows and the narrative makes it simple to follow the next step to manage. The tasks/exercises can be documented in a journal easily.
Originally I opted to get the audiobook. However the audio voice on audible made me feel uncomfortable so kindle ended up reading it!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a timely book, as most people I know have been dealing with extra stress the past few years. This book outlines what stress is, its impacts, and steps to help combat it. The author shares his personal story, which makes it even more relatable. Numerous strategies are included, and they're easy to implement. (And I really enjoyed his two acronyms to help remember things.) This is a quick read that gets right to the point. This book could be useful to anyone struggling with anxiety.
This book is a fantastic resource for anyone who has anxiety or stress. As a grandparent raising 3 grandchildren ages 12, 10 and 3 I see that my patience is not as good as it used to be. This book has shone me ways to help lessen the stress and everyone is better for it. I am also using some of the tips and tricks with the grandchildren to help them throughout their school days. I was fortunate to get a copy of this book through Netgalley. #stressed out #netgalley #MaxSampson
Very good! I like how the author articulated concepts and how everything was explained in simple terms to grasp the concepts. All opinions expressed are my own, I was gifted this book through NetGallery.
Very informative book. I am stressed out a large portion of the time. My anxiety is thru the roof most of the time. I do enjoy the coloring and playing games
This was great! Max Sampson talks a lot of sense. There were some 'common sense' stuff there (it's always good to me reminded, eh?) but there was a lot of other useful info too. I like the way Sampson included some humour - but not too much that it undermined the whole theme of the book. I think this book will take multiple readings/listens before the info 'goes-in my brain' as I'm stuck in some pretty bad habits, but really helpful and not at all dense or overwhelming!
This book would be one I would gift to high school graduates. The content is not new at all - so someone my age into personal development - there’s nothing really new here.
However, it took me years and years of trial and error to learn some of it - so having it all in one place in this book does carry tons of value to anyone new to the self help / personally development genre.
I do recommend the book!
