Like many teenagers in her town, Quinn Larson awaits her eighteenth birthday with equal parts excitement and dread. Every person who turns eighteen gets the opportunity to travel to their past, present, or future, which can drastically alter their view of life, for good or ill. A red serum is injected into willing arms and immediately transports the teens to the jumping point of their choosing. The jumpers can see who they marry, what job they have, better understand a current problem, or relive a significant moment in their childhood.
Quinn is also a worker at the Care Centre, where people go after their jumps to try and process what they have seen. She knows that not everyone has a happy ending, and they must live with the pressure of a past they can’t forget, a present they are avoiding, or a future they can’t reach.
When one of Quinn’s dearest friends, Graham, returns from his jump drastically changed and jumps begin to fall into chaos, she knows she has to take matters into her own hands to return him to his former self. With jumpers being pulled out of existence, Quinn is forced to break all sorts of rules to save Graham and all future jumpers.
Debut author Delanie Tiedemann loves stories and the powerful way they can open up conversations about societal issues, as well as aid in finding solutions through these discussions. In addition to writing, she loves theatre, film, and art. Delanie lives just outside of Edmonton, Alberta, with her husband, son, and two cats.
The book blew me away for several reasons, firstly the book has a sweet cover and just reading a few pages.. you'll know how lovely and interesting the book is going to be. Congratulations to the author Delanie Tiedemann for writing a wonderful book. The concept of the book is interesting, engaging and unique. The book raises thought-provoking questions about the impact of time travel on people's lives and weaves the theme of mindfulness throughout, reminding readers to focus on the present
The book is a captivating young adult novel that explores the consequences of time travel and the importance of mindfulness. The story follows Quinn Larson, she is a teenage girl who works at the Care Centre, a place where people go to process their experiences after time jumps. After finishing her school, Quinn spends her time helping those who are struggling with the aftermath of their jumps. However, everything changes when her friend Graham returns from a jump drastically changed, and chaos begins to take hold. Knowing that she must act fast to save Graham and all future jumpers, Quinn takes matters into her own hands. Despite the risks involved, she is determined to find a way to return Graham to his former self and restore order to the world of time jumping.
The character development is exceptional, particularly Quinn's. She is a relatable character with a kind and generous personality. Her thirst for knowledge is evident from the start, and she absorbs every piece of information given to her like a sponge. Quinn's job at the Care Centre allows her to help people find peace by listening to their stories and encouraging them to talk through their reactions, making her an empathetic character. These are few of the several reasons i loved her character so much.
The author has done an excellent job of creating a fast-paced story with well-developed characters that will leave readers wanting more. The language is simple and easy to understand, making it a page-turner from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book.
Birthdays are always an important part of growing up. For us, birthdays were so exciting that I couldn't even dare to start. Birthdays were about dressing fancy, birthdays were about taking candies to school and being the school celebrity for one itsy bitsy moment in the whole year. One day every year that makes you feel wanted, appreciated, and adored by everyone around you. While they sang your birthday song and you stood at the center of the class still and anxious not to know what you are to do, it is the kind of feeling that makes you numb with happiness.
Coming of age for us was getting a driver's license and getting to ride the family car/bike, it was a pretty big deal but wait to you listen to the rant by Quinn Larson, I am sure you will forget all the things I blurted out incoherently *Chuckles*. Birthdays for kids like Quinn in this dystopian future are to be able to travel through time. You get to decide what is going to be your coming-of-age gift and the options were, a moment in past or one from the future. Sounds scientifically huge yet a killjoy right? Just wait around the corner to see the effect every jump has on you.
The anxiety for something like this brings, excitement but then again fear is also part of the mixed back that makes us excited so much. A moment in point of time no matter wherever we chose to go or at what time we do, never without a consequence. Things start getting dicey when Graham, Quinn's friend returns broken after his jump. At this point, things only get worse as the jumpers are slowly but surely wiped out of reality. Will Quinn have what it takes to save herself and the ones she cares for? Or will things get ugly too quickly without her knowing? An interesting sci-fi adventure that takes you on an impressive ride, with thrill and twists to count for.
This is a wonderful YA science fiction novel, and well worth the investment of time. I'm usually not a fan of this genre, but a very glad I made the exception for this debut novel. It's well written and edited, with a unique premise. The plotting is solid and the characters are believable. The ending is solid and ties up the various plot threads in a satisfying manner. I look forward to the possibility of a second novel to add to my bookshelf. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed the originality of the story's premises, it is not something I had read before, which is always refreshing. This new writer has given the reader a cast of well define character's and a growing tension. It will be interesting to see the next book.
A thought provoking tale of a group of youngsters faced with a very serious decision to make, this novel leaves you stirring up your own "what ifs". I enjoyed reading this novel and discussing the themes with my partner. The writing was descriptive and it felt like I was watching a tv show or movie!
