Shout out to the author who spent months and hours writing this book for me to finish it in less than a day.
I've been anticipating this book since Psycho Academy, which was my favorite read this year. I quite literally jumped up and down, and let out a little squeal when I got the email for this ARC. I COULDN'T WAIT ANY LONGER. I CONSUMED this book, devoured it, and let me say that Psycho Devils ATE. Let's get into it. (Spoiler Free Review MWUAH)
So Psycho Devils starts off right where Psycho Academy ended, and the ball keeps rolling downhill for about 700 pages. Aran and the misogynist musketeers are forced to compete in the Legionnaire Games, which will test the limits of everyone involved. The Legionnaire games are not only a test of strength, but also a psychological showcase (quick, someone call Dr. Palmer). Aran will have to navigate the demanding games, while also navigating the equally demanding devils in her life.
Speak of the devils (See what I did there? Haha funny... please laugh). They really are.... uh... quite something! (Quick someone give Mitch a tampon) I definitely am starting to like them more than I did in the first book. We get to be inside their heads which is LOVELY (I am a slut for multi pov). We get to understand them a lot better because of this, the way they think and how they rationalize calling women lying whores. So obviously they are *not* going to win personality of the year, but they were giving growth in this book and I'm here for it. They gave us some... kitty purring one liners... like "Open your mouth, my turn." And I'm providing no context for that one. READ IF YOU WANNA KNOW. Definitely gonna have to turn in my feminism card soon. Anywho, I would say my fav of the three is Orion. I love a silent killer type of guy for an MMC, the kind who is toxic but is sweet about it, and who kinda stalks you lovingly... don't tell MY therapist.
Now onto the man who *will* be winning personality of the year. MY bestie John. Sure, Shakespeare wrote Hamlet or whatever, but Jasmine Mas wrote JOHN. I just love that man, and I'm so happy we get to see more of him this book. If you're apart of the John fanclub (Would we be called the besties? The cojohnes? <- spanish speakers I hope you get that one) you will definitely be satisfied with this book. Even though bae is keeping secrets or whatever... (wink wink) I still love that man.
Also, we get to see a lot more of Sadie and her guys in this book than we did in the previous one. So for all you Sadie lovers, you'll get your juice in Psycho Devils.
Now of course as is applicable to everything in life, it gets worse before it gets better. Psycho Devils beautifully captures the spectrum of depression, substance abuse, and the many forms that self harm comes in. Aran is on not just an epic journey of a Queen rising to power, but also as an abused girl who is at the bottom of a hole and can't figure out how to get herself out. So make sure to check out the trigger list on the author's website if you feel you need to do so.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the next installment. (Which I will also probably read in finish in less than a day.) I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true enemies to lovers, paranormal academy settings, a witty FMC, and a golden retriever bestie... who is sexy hot... Okay. I'm off to go maladaptive daydream about hot fictional men loving me ;).
