Your child has a meltdown in the grocery store parking lot because you didn't get his favorite cereal.
Your fifteen-year-old throws his phone at the wall because you won't let him go to a college party that weekend.
Your 7-year-old and 9-year-old fight constantly, and you're afraid someone will get seriously injured.
Parenting is hard. It doesn't come with a manual, and sometimes punishments seem like the only way to fix undesirable behavior. In Unpunished, successful parent coach and mom of two, Michelle Kenney, M.Ed., opens up about her struggle with parenting and how she learned to connect fully with her kids without yelling, punishments, or manipulation. Whether you're a new or seasoned parent, this thoughtful book will walk you through the process of infusing empathy and compassion into your parenting style to restore connection and improve your relationship with your child.
The amount of information in this book about parenting is immense. It's a tough pill to swallow at times but if you are open to learning and growing, I highly recommend it.
I have been integrating connection and love parenting into our home. It isn't easy and mistakes are often made. The journey we are on is frustrating but the pay off is great when I get to see my children responding in a loving and kind way. They're my teachers as much as I am their teacher (:
Thank you for this book Michelle Kenney! It'll be staying with me physically as well as in my brain forever.
I will give this 4.5⭐️ because I think the author was really endearing and I could tell she poured her heart into the book. As someone who has already read a ton on concious/peaceful parenting, this felt like an intro book for someone who is on maybe their first read into a new idea of parenting. I was hoping for a few new insights or some more concrete examples of applying hand in hand parenting but it was a sweet, heartfelt book and a quick/easy read. Really great for anyone new on this concept!
