Fools Rush in

Rate this book
On a blazing July day in Central County, California, snitch Johnny Blue is murdered by a lethal heroin injection. Undercover narcotic detective James Wolfe, the operative who handled Blue, goes to the Sheriff's Department substation seeking ex-girlfriend Christy Bristol. In the past he ridiculed her hobby of casting horoscopes. Now he needs her expertise to catch the man he suspects is behind Blue's murder, a drug dealer named Lloyd Parr. Stuck on the lowest rung of law enforcement, Christy becomes first a victim, then a hero in the high-stakes game of narcotic trafficking. Through her eyes, the drug world is reduced to individual players, lost values and discarded dreams. The reality of what goes on in the fertile land of the San Joaquin Valley is far more disturbing than the Hollywood version of drug lords and a wealthy lifestyle fueled by drug money. In the drug world of the Valley, there are no winners. Only losers.

I'm a Central California writer (near Fresno). I write mysteries about my area of the country, as well as narcotics trafficking and astrology. I was a secretary for an undercover narcotics team for 11 years, and I've done astrology for 35 years. With my novel, FOOLS RUSH IN, I demonstrate astrology in ways sure to surpise readers. There is also an opportunity to enter a free horoscope drawing. Fun! "

Sunny Frazier's debut novel introduces us to the the first Christy Bristol Astrology Mystery that sounds CUTE but in reality, it presents the reader with a very apt inside view of California law enforcement: police officers, under cover cops, the DEA/ the FBI in their often unending and often hazardous pursuit of hardened narcotic dealers. Christy is employed by the Sheriff's Office, but at the request of her ex-boyfriend and police detective, she foolishly agrees to astrologically chart a dangerous criminal. For her fool hardy actions, she gets caught up in a maelstrom of high drama: she is kidnapped by an assortment of bizarre drug dealers and finds herself in the midst of high drama, fear of bodily harm, murdered victims in various states of decay and manages to find herself gravely attracted to one of the 'bad guys.'
I found this extremely enjoyable with wonderful and believable characterizations, committed development and awesome persona. Ms. Frazier knows very well how to spin a yarn and create interesting situations, bizarre characters and clever conclusions. The reader is introduced to the intricacies of astrology and I was taken aback by the complexity of the Zodiac and Frazier's vast knowledge. There are moments of breath taking suspense, frequent incidents of sassy humor and interludes of romantic intrigue. I loved this book and can't wait to read the second in the series.

Drugs, law enforcement and astrology – all are featured in this fascinating novel that offers a peek into each of these worlds, even as it leads us down suspenseful country roads and highways that traverse California’s Central Valley.

Christy Bristol is an office assistant at a Sheriff’s Department substation in the fictional town of Coronita, but her specialty is horoscopes. When her ex-boyfriend “Wolfe,” an undercover “narc,” asks her to do a horoscope of a drug dealer, who is a fan of astrology, she hesitates. But then finally complies. And then everything in her world is turned upside down.

The action escalates as author Sunny Frazier propels us down one country road after another to the drug dealer’s compound, where Christy is held hostage.

Can spinning more horoscopes for her captor lead to her release? Will the law enforcement officers at the substation realize her danger and come to her rescue? Or will Christy have to escape on her own, using her wits and her abilities with charts?

I couldn’t put the book down until the final page, and then I was eager to see what would happen next in Frazier’s new sequel “Where Angels Fear.”

A definite five-star read.

Christy Bristol is an office assistant for the sheriff’s department in the San Joaquin Valley. She sees the crimes that happen in the valley on a second-hand basis, as she files the reports prepared by the officers in the field. But Christy has a gift that her co-workers brush aside due to disbelief. You see, Christy is an Astrologist. She doesn’t predict the future but tells the future through the position of the planets.

In Fools Rush In Christy is asked by her unbelieving ex-boyfriend, who is an undercover narcotics detective, to do a “chart” on a leading drug dealer who does believe in Astrology. What does this chart show for the future of dealer Lloyd Parr? And just as important, what does Christy’s own chart say about her future? To find out follow Christy as she deals with the non-believers that are connected with Parr, his ex-girlfriend who wants Christy dead and the Columbian dealer Christy actually finds attractive.

I thoroughly enjoyed Fools Rush In. It was a book that caught my attention from the beginning and held it to the end and even made me wonder about Astrology.

The protagonist here, Christy Briston, is an amateur astrologer who works in law enforcement and who will lighten your day.

Another entertaining series.
