What a lovely, sweet, inspirational book, with such delightful artwork. I love the storyline of friendship, kindness, willingness to see another’s point of view, cooperation, and positivity. I want to read more from this series.

I liked this book and that Eva gave her chance of president to someone else who she thought would be better than her.

Eva’s class is having an election for class president. So far Sue is the only one running, but Eva doesn’t feel like she should run unopposed, so she decides to run too. However, as the campaign, debate, and other things happen in the lead up to the vote, Eva has an important realization.

This was an excellent model for kids that it is ok to step down from something when you realize it isn’t a good fit for you. It also models encouraging others and complementing them on their strengths. Eva realizes someone else is a much better fit for president, someone who has the best interests of the class at heart (and not being the star), someone who needed just a bit of encouragement, and she does the right thing that’s best for everyone. If only real politicians would act like Eva!

Notes on content:
Language: None
Sexual content: None
Violence: None
Ethnic diversity: n/a all are owls
LGBTQ+ content: None specified
Other: Eva gets stressed before the debate but a friend helps her feel more prepared.

Eva's class is running elections for class president. When Sue announces that she will run, all the other owls in class doubt whether they can beat her in elections so no one else decides to run against Sue, until Eva decides she'll do it! But Eva starts to realize that she's not really good at this campaigning thing and she doesn't even really want to be the class president that much, but she knows who does!

I was impressed with Eva's character as she willingly steps aside for her friend (who wants to be president one day) to run for class president in her place. It was also pleasant to see how the debate between the two candidates was kind and respectful and how in the end this respect for one another helps everyone to come out as winners.

I am reading The Owl Diaries with my 6-year old granddaughter. We have a book club together and the Owl Diaries are her favorite books. I read #19 because #1 wasn’t available. It is on hold now. I love that my granddaughter wants to be in a book club with me.

Not everyone is fit to be president. Great reminders to listen to what people want, also to only make promises you can keep, and think about what would actually make things and people better.

Eva is competing against Sue to be school President. Eva decides that Hailey should compete instead of her, because Hailey wants to be a real President when she grows up.

This was very enjoyable. Eva's class has an election race to see who will be elected class president. I liked the sportsmanship and also the practicality of what a president can actually do.
