"To Be With Me: A Healing Book for Parents and Children" is an accessible, succinct, and evidence based guide for parents and children alike to navigate their lives with care. It could stand alone on its written text, but also includes beautifully crafted illustrations to draw in readers of all ages.
While trauma may be the impetus for this book, the sage advice is applicable to most real-world situations. It primarily draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which has helped scores of people, including myself, to cope with their trauma and live a better, more fulfilled life. ACT has roots in the ancient practice of mindfulness, but all of Amy and Melissa's books create poignant situations and coping strategies that are firmly grounded in ACT's scientific research and clinical practices.
I have read everything Amy and Melissa have produced, and this is yet another 5 star tool in a long line of books meant to teach effective strategies to parents and children alike for increased well-being and fulfillment.
I don't think it is hyperbolic to say that these books have the potential to change the entire course of a child or a parent's life, and open up new doors to a way of being that increases trust and safety, reduces stress, fosters a deeper connection between parent and child, and exponentially fortifies the process of developing healthy coping mechanisms in the toughest of situations.
