City Aliens #1

Abduction Seduction

Rate this book
Three days of fun.

Three irresistible aliens.

One newly single human woman.

What could go wrong?

On the first day of Chimera Con, the biggest fan con in North America, my boyfriend of five years dumps me over a text. I’m furious and heartbroken, of course, but there’s no way I’m spending the entire con inside my hotel room. I’m prepared to grin and bear it while I fly solo for the weekend.

But then I meet Aiden.

Aiden is sweet, charismatic, and inquisitive. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s hot as hell and into the same stuff as I am. When he introduces me to his equally attractive friends, Sara and Wes, my weekend does a one-eighty. I’m fully prepared for several nights of fun hookups, but something is… off about the trio. My new friends harbor a secret so strange it’s otherworldly.

ABDUCTION SEDUCTION is a MMFF sci-fi polyamorous romance intended for adult readers. It is complete with an HEA. For all tropes, tags, and CWs, please check the author’s website.

I'm going to hold off on writing a full review until the author releases the updated version but I absolutely loved reading this. The characters were so fun to read and the spice was delicious. I can't wait to see what else DJ is going to add to this story!

Should I read in order?
This is a stand alone alien novella (and Russo’s debut? I think?)

Basic plot:
After a break up, Taryn meets some interesting strangers at Chimera Con.

Give this a try if you want:
- science fiction romance
- Earth setting
- MMFF dynamics
- cryptozoologist heroine
- telepathy
- higher steam – 4 scenes in a shorter page count with some kink elements

Ages:
- Taryin is 31 in the epilogue (so 29/30 for the story), not sure about others

First line:
I stare down into the soft blue glow of my phone, unable to comprehend the text I’d just received.

My thoughts:
Woohoo, my first MMFF romance and I really enjoyed it! This is a shorter novel that packs a nice steam punch and some tantalizing alien aspects.

Being a shorter novel, this doesn’t have a ton of character depth to it, and most of the book takes place on Earth. I would have loved a bit more details on the alien planet and I wanted a more concrete epilogue I think but overall this one was super fun.

I loved the first bedroom scene together but the way it cut into the scene prior it felt like a page break was missing or something. I had to reread those couple pages a few times to find my bearings. Other than that the characters were fun, I enjoyed the plot, and am definitely going to be trying more from Russo.

I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t DJ’s best work. It was a little half baked at times. Taryn was a relatable bisexual FMC who ended up living the dream in a polyam foursome. I felt like I didn’t get to know the other MCs very well, but if I had to pick a fave it would probs be Sara because she was the grounding force. Aiden was Mr Dominant but sweet and Wes was all over the map.

Spice: 3.5/5

Triggers: breakup, threat of abduction (brief), gaslighting, pandemic (off page), blood donation

Fat rep: Female MC

Omg this made me so happy. "Monster" fucking and HEA. 🥰 It was both hot and cozy simultaneously. Also loved the writing.

Loved the polyam and the consenual BDSM. And even the mention of safe words! Lots of things that are missing in other smut that were just so expertly woven in.

This was a quick and fun read, however there were points it didn’t quite make sense.
In places it jumped really quickly and I was sure I’d skipped pages, only to find out that was just how it progressed.
I liked the characters but I’d have loved more from this book. They were cute and their dynamic was adorable.
I wanted to see our human FMC on the alien planet 🪐 but instead we just land and then boom epilogue ??
I didn’t hate this but I didn’t love it either there were enjoyable parts of this story but it could have been so much more 🤷‍♀️
But as the first read of 2026 I’m okay with it

I picked up Abduction Seduction this week when it went on sale and oh my god I’m so glad I did!!! This book was so sweet and spicy. It was perfect for a Valentine’s read! I give this 💘💘💘💘💘!

While Taryn attends Chimera Con (a fan convention for people who love aliens), she gets dumped by her boyfriend of 5 years. She doesn’t want it to ruin her weekend so she stays at the con and attends panels. At one event she meets Aiden and they instantly click. He then introduces her to his friends Sara and Wes.

Turns out these new friends of hers are actually aliens who were dressed up as humans! This doesn’t deter her though! The 4 of them hit it off and end up together in bed. Their polyamorous romp goes from the hotel to their space ship and eventually across the universe.

Turns out Aiden’s and Wes’s people were ravished by a disease… and Taryn’s blood held a cure! After she helps them, they drop her back off on Earth, and make a pact to see each other next year at the same convention. That year apart only solidifies that they all want to be together indefinitely. This leads to Taryn leaving behind her life on Earth to join her partners in space.

This book had so many things in it I loved! First of all, Chimera Con would be amazing if it were real. I loved the play on a “comic con” and I’ve never seen that in a book.

I also really loved how this MMFF polyamorous relationship and the BDSM aspect was portrayed. Everything was super respectful and well written!

I also loved that you got scenes of everyone together, but also of Taryn with each alien on their own. It really helped to develop everyone’s relationship inside and outside the dynamic.

There's plenty of charm and sweetness as the protagonist, Taryn, finds a welcome distraction from her recent break-up.

Having read the content warnings I was prepared for the more explicit content and found it mostly flowed naturally with the events in the plot rather then feeling like an add on. That said, the plot is pretty basic and relationships develop at warp speed in order to accommodate the emotional beats the story wants to hit.

Ultimately if you read the blurb the book delivers exactly what is described and the addition of aliens helped keep things feeling fresh.

I thoroughly enjoyed this alien meet-cute/abduction mashup - I usually lean more towards fantasy than scifi but this was cute as hell! Main character Taryn was well-written and easy to root for. The plot flows really nicely, I loved the ‘Chimera Con’ setting and the polyam aspect added a fresh twist. I really liked all the love interests and how their different personalities shone through as Taryn interacted with them. I think her connection with Sara was my fave but they work beautifully as a foursome. Loved the spice, too!

This book was absolutely amazing.

I will definitely read anything and everything from this author.

I love that there was a healthy and happy polyamorous relationship in this book. There needs to be more poly relationships in books in general.

I enjoyed how the author put her own spin on ComicCon

I was provided with an arc for an honest review

If this would be my own convention experience when I'm going to my next one in August I'd be all too happy.

So this book takes place at a convention, and as a convention goer myself the feeling is all too relatable. I absolutely love going to them, loving the atmosphere and everything there is to do. This book captures that feeling really well and I got all of the good con feelings myself straight away getting all hyped up.

When we meet the love interest in at a selling stand the chaos is also sooo relatable and it was funny to see them struggle to properly talk and have a conversation. Always other people around trying to buy something too lol. Their conversation was absolutely sweet however and felt myself amoured to this kind stranger immediatily. When they then go to the panel it was a lot of fun that the main character kept trying to figure out what our stranger would think of it. I enjoyed those monologues a lot.

The book conintues with her meeting his friends and leads on to the sexy bits of this book. Ooooh yes the smut in this book was good. It was sweet how consent was important and they all tried to make Taryn feel save and valued. Even though they were practically strangers yet it felt very loving. But don't get me wrong it was hella hot too. It was really good and smutty I loved it (and I have read those bits again when I was in a certain mood).
After the initial time together there are a few other moments where things get heated too and I loved how those were structured with her spending some more time with each of the polycule 1 on 1. It was fun to see how everyone had different tastes in sex and thus all scenes felt absolutely different which was great. It gave the characters a lot of personality as well and made it even more fun.

All together I really enjoyed this book and I'd love to read more of this author.

While I appreciate the effort a bunch of things didn't work, on different levels. On a broad scale there's a bunch of conspicuous handwaving, more than I can forgive even at this length. For example, about wormhole travel:

"I could explain it to you, but it would take a while. Is it okay if I just say it's advanced tech stuff?"

Then there's the outright contradictions.

Page 80: "What we weren't prepared for was meeting a sentient species. And we definitely didn't expect to find a human such as yourself with the blood we needed."

Page 84: He shakes his head. "It's because we've been in contact with your species for a long time."

Four pages apart! ~facepalm~

Time moves both slower and faster. Emotional beats don't line up. The foursome goes from a packed hotel lobby to their room upstairs in the space between paragraphs, which is awkward when they start tearing each other's clothes off.

On the good side, Russo lets Taryn be quietly, naturally bi. And while the writing isn't the best, it's okay when it doesn't contradict itself.

But overall I'd recommend the jacket copy comp, Ann Aguirre's Strange Love, before this.

Cute!

Abduction Seduction, City Aliens book 1 by DJ Russo & @djrusso_author is a new to me author. Read the trigger warnings!

Taryn meets Aiden at Chimera Con, they attend a paranormal panel together. Aiden introduces her to Sara & Wes. They spend the day flirting with each other. They go back to Wes, Sara & Aiden’s hotel for a foursome. They spend the weekend together having sex. They disclose they are aliens from another galaxy & want to take her with them to cure a disease her blood can cure. She agrees to go to their Galaxy with them. The three of them ask Taryn to join their poly group. They take a year away to make sure that they all want to be together. The three of them come back to Earth to stay with Taryn. Aww! This was a cute book. 😊

This was short, fun & easy to read sci-fi romance. I loved that our main character doesn’t let a shitty situation ruin the nerdy convention that she’s been SUPER stoked about attending. We don’t let no MAN keep us down! I appreciated that it wasn’t just MMFF, but it was truly poly and queer as well. And I love that the aliens looked like aliens…. think more like ET and less like IPB - but it works, trust me. It’s a pretty quick instalust but with it being short it doesn’t leave ya much option. The smut to plot ratio is about 60/40 but it still is pretty wholesome and left me saying “aww” a couple times. Overall I enjoyed this and recommend it if you’re looking for something fun and quick.

I wanted to like ABDUCTION SEDUCTION, but I don't know what happened here. The transition from hanging out in the convention lobby to tearing their clothes off for a foursome was so abrupt. Up to this point Taryn has only really made a connection with Aiden and while she's thought about Wes and Sara she hasn't verbalized that nor have they expressed an interest back. Sara even says they've been flirting all day and I don't where that was but it wasn't in the book. I felt like we were was missing a chapter or something because the characters' actions shifted so sharply, there was just no build up.

Different, But Still Entertaining

A well written story, with an unusual viewpoint! There were times that I thought I wouldn't finish this story, because I had never read a story with this sequence of events that held my interest and made sense to me. There was enough to keep my interest high enough to keep flipping pages! I was rewarded with a very good, original story. Enjoy!

Something was off about this whole book. There were random time skips that happened over one paragraph. Also, I don't think this was a great alien romance. There was a lot of things that happened that didn't seem realistic (she freaked out and came back two seconds later, constantly ignored her gut feelings and ).

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought i would. There were some lapses in the story that missed for me but for a book under 200 pages it definitely achieved what it set out to do and the characters were pretty fleshed out as well which I was surprised about.

Kind of cute

At first it felt a bit random, but I found myself becoming more drawn to Sara, Wes and Aiden. They sound like heavenly partners and ever better friends.

Heat Factor: Once with the whole group, and then Taryn has a one-on-one interlude with each alien

Character Chemistry: They treat Taryn well, except for that whole lying to her thing

Plot: Taryn meets some really hot people and bangs it out with them…only to discover that they’re aliens who want her blood

Overall: Goes some unexpected places, which I liked, but the relationships could have been a tad more developed

Oh my god, too much s*x, 1 star.

Not!

I had the joy of getting an advanced reader's copy of this book and it's such a delight. Every main character has such a strong personality that their precense keeps contributing to all the scenes they are in.
The setting of the book being the fictional version of Dragon Con was such a fun spin as someone who's been to the con before.
Now maybe the biggest delight is seeing a book with polyamory rep, there's just not enough of it in romance or erotica in general and seeing it represented in a healthy manner brings me so much joy. And some of the scenes are so scandalously filthy, I absolutely loved every single one of them. The mass effect games never quite softened me for idea of lovable aliens, but this book has brought me just a little closer to the fold, lol!

After being unceremoniously dumped by her partner of five years, Taryn is looking for a distraction in a weekend convention for alien and cryptid lovers. She finds it in the form of three aliens masquerading as humans that are instantly interested in Taryn. Sweet flirting turns into hot hotel sex turns into even hotter spaceship sex. If you like polyamorous relationships, multiple sexual partners, consent at every turn, and an overall fun, sexy romp of a read then ABDUCTION SEDUCTION is for you!.

Steamy Sci-Fi Fun!

This was a fun romp and well written with engaging characters. The beginning is a little clunky but it picks up very quickly and takes it away with clear descriptions and detailed world building.

Characters motivations and emotional reactions are true to their characterizations, and each one has a discount personality. Erotica with a plot AND a HEA? Yes please!
