Blitzkrieg Bops: A Brief History of Punks at War

Rate this book
What happens when aggressive, riotous punk music becomes the peacemaker? i liked it cause some parts were really interesting n the music recommendations were GREAT but i just wish it was more emotionally weighty and personally driven like if we’re talking about resistance i want more of a sense of the individual

This is simply a brilliant book. It highlights the fact that art but especially music can challenge the status quo and give hope for political change worldwide. When punk emerged in the UK I had heard nothing like it before. Though the police were a nightmare rage was aimed at a system that was slow to change and didn’t reflect what was happening in the modern world. What a time to be alive!!! But to read the stories of bands practising and performing under gunfire is just humbling. My only feedback about the book it’s too short I would love it to be 2/3 times longer a fab read.

It is what it says it is: a historical account of punk as an anti-war tool.

The precious 404 inklings I've read I've been slightly let down by, but in this one the writer clearly knew her argument (thesis) and makes it within the limited pages she has. Helps that its history and not theoretical, but still. Its a nice pocket-sized slice of history and a good read if you're interested in the punk scene across different cultures and decades. Obviously don't expect a full detailed piece of research, because that would be a few hundred more pages.
