Another Way of Seeing Things: George and Margaret Stories

Rate this book
Another Way of Seeing Things is a humorous collection of short stories about the adventures and discussions of a senior married couple with very different personalities and points of view. George Thatcher is an eccentric, retired mailroom supervisor whose approach to everyday questions, as well as philosophical, theological, and political issues are unique. His wife wife, Margaret, is the level-headed counterpart who ensures that George's quirky opinions and fanciful ruminations do not lead to disappointment or disaster. George thinks about and does all the things that the rest of us do, but he thinks about them and does them
• Many of us have lost the food we were barbecuing between the grate’s bars to the coals below, but few have served the sooty result to dinner guests and boasted of its secret sauce.
• Nearly all of us, even ornithologists who should have known already, have wondered what the birds were saying with their wide variety of chirps, peeps, twitters, and tweets, but few of us believe that we have actually discussed our family concerns with our winged friends in the backyard.
• It is not uncommon to dislike “politicians,” but it is rare to hear someone suggest replacing them with bureaucrats appointed by self-perpetuated councils of experts.
•Most golfers depend upon their swing and knowledge of the course to improve their game, but George relies on pep talks to his clubs and ball.
The rather unheroic protagonist of these stories, George Thatcher, has – proudly – done all of these and countless other outlandish feats of absurdity. Fortunately, George is married to Margaret, the epitome of female common sense and practicality ¬– but not above seizing upon a bank error of millions of dollars in the couple’s favor. Fortunately, all ends on a happy note. Come and savor the whimsical philosophy and bask in the sometimes hilarious nonsense.
