What a unique book! Devices of Man is entertaining, fun to read, and different than a lot of other fantasy books I’ve read.
27-year-old Kate lives in a tiny village with her two adoptive fathers (who rescued her from a fire as a child). Kate is an inventor and is obsessed with Paradise Lost (the ancient collapsed civilization) and The Ghost King. The Ghost King protects the tiny village but is feared by everyone- mainly because he turns everyone and everything to ice. Nobody can get close to the mysterious Ghost King without freezing solid. The first time Kate sees him- she feels an instant connection. When war threatens to break out, Kate must brave the icy blight and warn the Ghost King of what’s coming.
Devices of Man has drama, mystery, enemy kingdoms, ancient civilizations, forgotten gods, pining, and a splash of romance (love at first sight with a twist). Kate is a quirky and likeable FMC- she has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and isn’t afraid to try new things. It’s a fun one!

A different read, a cozy fantasy. Would recommend this for young girls especially. It's got fantasy elements, logic to assess, political events to learn from and bits of romance.
Warning: religion is mentioned that you may or may not agree with, only very little, but might impact a young mind. I do advise checking it for yourself, but if you don't mind, this book is great to help develop a child's understanding of society in a story format.
I also liked the romance that is shown, not explicit, just simple but powerful, especially for girls of a young age.
but not exactly for us who read more mature stuff. kinda boring for us.

This is a good book that speaks of the devices of man. Definitely a fantasy book. I found the characters relatable, and likable, well most anyway. Every good story needs the antagonist to make things interesting.
I appreciate there was not a lot of bad language.
I liked the twists and turns as Kate finds her place in life.
