This is a book about second chances that evokes strong feelings throughout the book. Honestly, I’m a real sucker for this theme. Maddie King has very admirable qualities and for the most part is quite likable even though she seems to cry at the drop of a hat. Her 9-year old son, Tyler, is by far my favorite character in the story; he’s respectful, obedient, extremely intelligent and unafraid to ask the hard, uncomfortable questions. Parker Brooks, as well as his brothers, Wade and Carson are also decent, likable characters.Nearly 10 years have elapsed since Maddie and Parker have been together, but despite a significant betrayal devised to keep them apart all those years ago, their love for each other has neither been extinguished nor diminished. When they agree to meet, there is baggage to unload, secrets to be told and betrayals to be revealed-a great deal of unfinished business. And, the sex is smoking hot.
Overall, I think this is a good solid read with the exception of certain aspects of the story that I found extremely odd. Most of my ambivalence about the book stems from the fact that I had a heck of a time finding any discernible physical attributes pertaining to Maddie. In fact, even after having read a considerable portion of the book and through a rather vague and ambiguous reference (maybe 2) to Maddie’s skin color as it contrasted to Parker’s typical rancher’s complexion, do I posit that maybe, possibly, presumably, Maddie could be black? Really, after having read the book, I can’t tell you what Mattie looks like, and her race is NEVER mentioned.
Why is there nothing pertaining to Maddie’s physical characteristics detailed in the book, but Parker’s physical characteristics—hair, eyes, height, build and attractiveness are given in great detail? We are told that Parker sees his son’s color as “tan” (a melding of his and Maddie’s DNA). I never thought I’d miss the age old description, café au lait.🙄 Another oddity I found involved the reason Parker and Maddie were purposely manipulated by Parker’s father to keep them apart. It’s because at the time she was the daughter of the town drunk and Parker’s family was rich. REALLY? Race was never an issue, at all? REALLY?
My head is exploding. Maddie can be any race. Simply put, she is interchangeable. It is unacceptable in my opinion to pen a good story, throw in a few vague, barely discernible references to skin color, and voilà, a BWWM romance is born instantaneously.
I am ending my elucidation (AKA rant) now regarding this matter. In my highlights I have raised the issue of unprotected sex between Parker and Maddie. I surmise that you can predict the outcome.
I have read a number of this author’s books and have really enjoyed them. Therefore, I am quite surprised about the preceding issues I have with this book. Ms Banks is a gifted writer. Her books are engaging, sexy, and often emotional—my kind of stories. I will continue to read her books including the rest of the books in this series. I just hope that there is never a repeat of nondescript black women in the next books I read—or my head will resume exploding.

Back in the Saddle is a sweet, second chance romance by Peyton Banks.
Maddy returns to town after some time in the big city. Being from a small town has its perks. The fact that Maddy is bound to run into her ex, Parker, isn’t one of them. At least not at first.
I highly recommend this book. It was the perfect book to get me through this time at home. The book is funny, well written, and (at a time when I think we can all use it) feel good.

Truly, not a clue how I came across this book but I listened to it while doing chores and it was….alright?
(I’ve been trying not to judge books by their covers lately so I’m just putting that out there.)
It was cute enough but I’m just going to say it - there is a time and place for the term “seed” to be used and a sweet cowboy romance probably isn’t it. Monster romance, fine. Any paranormal romance, fine. Honestly I’ll allow it in contemporary romance depending on the situation and the writing. But this…this was not it.

This is a beautiful 2nd chance romance with hot cowboys, a single mom and adorable 9yo. 10 yrs ago, Maddie walked out of Parker Brookes’ life and her hometown because it was the right thing to do...but her heart was shattered. Now she’s back because she needs help with her son while she bartends and takes online classes. She has no intention of seeking out Parker. Except fate has other plans and Parker finds her! Both figure out that they had been mislead and now they’re working on their second chance. Great story! Excellent narration team brings the individual characters to life. This one was worth losing sleep to get to ‘The End’!

Plot: Parker and Maddison were hot and heavy but when she went to tell him that she was pregnant, he had already left, leaving his dad to break the news to her. Ten years later, she's back in town and so is he. He doesn't know he's a father though. But once they talk and try to figure out what happened, maybe they'll be able to give things a second chance.
Commentary: Normally I find there's an imbalance in secret baby books. Often, I find that I naturally side with the mom because usually there's a situation where she tried to tell him or was going to tell him, and then something happened, and so in the end, it's more his fault that she had to go away (or that he went away). So I'm usually a little mad at the guy. But in this case, it was absolutely, perfectly balanced. It wasn't really either of their faults. They did each bear some guilt for not trying harder, and of course, they could have (and both of them thought/mentioned that), but ultimately, the blame lay elsewhere, and so they were able to come back together and rebuild their relationship and Parker's relationship with his son without the weight of blame and guilt over them. Bit of a unicorn, to be fair, and I liked it.
I also enjoyed the next book - Rashad's story - a lot.

Maddy and Parker are great, they never stopped loving each other no matter the time and what happened for them to separate and sweet wee Tyler. This is a book about second chances, fixing mistakes and most of all that true love never dies so be ready for laughs, awkward moments, secrets, sadness, sexy cowboys and a whole lot of fun! I just loved the Brooks family .. well apart from one, but the three brothers are fun, over protective and sweet with a good bit of alpha so I can't wait to read more in this series!!!

When Parker’s rodeo career came to a premature end due to an injury he returned to his hometown to help out on the family ranch but the last person he expected to see was the woman he has never been able to forget.
Maddie has recently returned to her hometown as well and is working in the pub when Parker came in. She knew that she couldn’t avoid him forever but seeing him again brought back all the pain of the past.

Story line is great and I loved the characters. I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it! Unexpected twists and turns had me reading this book in one sitting. Great storyline and character development made this book a hot and enjoyable read!

2.25 Stars. (BW/WM). An Audible audiobook with narration by Stella Hunter and Tim Paige. Second change. I did not know this was a story about a heroine who chose to withhold a child from his father and to deny a father the opportunity to support his child emotionally and financially. I decided to read this story blind because the story is about an interracial cowboy romance-rare fruit much like interracial MC romances. Maddison King, the heroine and Parker Brooks were high school sweethearts. Maddison's family is on the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum in part do to her dysfunctional alcoholic father; while Parker's family is in the billionaire ranch owner class. The author seemed to take a lackadaisical approach to telling this story and in my opinion, created a selfish, thoughtless, accusatory character in Maddison-a character that I could not root for. When Maddison went to see Parker off on his rodeo tour, the guy she loved and vice versa, she was already 4 months pregnant and had not told him; but went his father suggested that she was not good for Parker, she left town and stayed away for 10 years. In her internal dialogue, "he , Parker, doesn't want me." was her constant refrain...none of her thoughts were about the father and son bound she was denying the two people she claimed to love. She punished and hurt her son and Parker and blamed Parker's father. She had been in town for over 2 months before seeing Parker; but it was not until she and Parker had unprotected sex that she told him he was the father of her nine year old son. I liked her son and Parker and I am happy they got a happy ending. Parker's father repented for his hand in keeping them apart and in so doing, he was a more likable character than Maddison.

I do enjoy a good second chance book. And I like the premise behind the book, but some of this execution was a little lacking. the first scene where they get together is just kind of baffling to me like she’s super mad and they’re going to sit and meet and talk and then suddenly there humping on a blanket in the woods. It’s like we skipped chapters in between them not seeing each other for 10 years and then just instantly being a little family and it throws me off. I wish there was maybe a little more storytelling or story building to that.
I also noticed some reviews mentioning vague details about the FMC. I do kind of like some books to be vague because then you can relate a little more as you in that position. A lot of books will say blonde hair blue eyes skinny little petite thing. Whereas books that describe maybe one or two features you can put yourself more in that , the FMC is only described as having darker or tanned skin so she is a POC or native maybe? I don’t know maybe that doesn’t make sense to some people but I kind of liked it. it didn’t just contain the reader to the authors perception. You kind of were able to use your imagination. Maybe that’s just me
Overall, the book was fairly good. I just couldn’t finish the last few chapters. Seems like a lot of the book was just resolved before was actually finished.

I got Back in the Saddle during a Stuff Your Earbuds day event because I wanted to give Cowboy romance a chance.
I enjoyed this audiobook way more than I expected to!
Madison King and her son, Tyler, moved back to her hometown to be closer to her mother. She needed extra help and wanted to save money on a babysitter while she worked and studied. She is working as a bartender at a local bar when she encounters Parker, the famous bull rider, and the reason she left with a broken heart. Parker wants to talk, and they certainly have a lot to talk about because Madison's nine-year-old son, Tyler, is a spitting image of his father, and Parker doesn't even know he existed.
The reason this isn't getting five stars is that the first 50% of the book was a bit slow, in my opinion. But once it started getting good, I quickly stopped what I was doing to listen to this audiobook with my full attention.
I was crying when Tyler met Parker and his brothers. All of them took Tyler into their family, no questions asked. It felt so special and heartwarming.
I will 100% be reading the rest of the Blazing Eagle Ranch series.
If you're looking for a cowboy romance set in a small town that will leave you with butterflies in your stomach, this is it!

This was a sweet heartwarming easy read story. My heart just hurt for Maddy as a young girl being lied to and forced out of Parker's life only because she was the town drunk's daughter. She did not come from a well-groomed rancher's family, but she was a wonderful person. Ten years later, she'd grown to be a confident hard-working self-assured woman that Parker still loved after all. There was no one who would keep him from being with his family ever again.

A great story
A great second chance romance. Get your kleenex ready. Where did it all go wrong? What happened to them? He needed to talk to her to get closure on what happened all those years ago. She should have been mad at him, but she no longer had it in her heart. They both had been duped. They had missed years with each other because of the hatred someone else had in their heart.
Maddy couldn’t believe she had moved back to Shady Springs, Colorado. It had taken her years to get over Parker Brooks after he broke her heart. She had a secret, but being back in town was going to be impossible to keep it. Tyler her nine-year-old son, belonged to Parker. She had taken a job at the local bar as a bartender. Being a single mom was difficult.
Parker was forced to retire after he injured his knee. Now he was back home with his brothers running the ranch. On the circuit, he was never alone if he didn’t want to be. He’d been through so many women over the years, but there was only one who had caught his heart and broke it in two. Now she’s back in town and he wants to know why she left.

Parker a retired bull rider. He may have hung out with the buckle bunnies, booze and on the circuit but he still missed his first love. Maddie is the one who got away kind of. They were supposed to meet. But Jonah his dad stated that she was no good for him. He could do better. And Parker should not have to sync to her level. She excepts and believes the things that was told her. Now 10 years later things have come full circle. Maddie is here with her nine-year-old son. Parker is now retired bull rider because of a very very bad knee injury. So what happens when Maddie is seen in town after all these years. All these to come together and talk to see what went wrong in the relationship when they were young? A lot of surprises, even a come to Jesus moment. No cliffhanger. Great characters fascinating story

Maddy returns to her home town because city life is getting too expensive as a single mom. Shortly after she's back, she runs into her ex, Parker, and he wants to know why she ran away all those years ago.
This was between a 3 and 4 star for me, but I'm going to round up because I think it's well written for what it is. It's a pretty typical secret baby romance - girl gets knocked up, thinks the baby daddy doesn't want to be involved, runs off, and baby daddy is too stubborn to find out why. What I really liked about this one, though, was that when everything came to light, the MCs didn't blame each other and fight. They realized what happened, acted like adults about it, and focused on their future and what to do for their son.
While it didn't feel totally new, different, and exciting, it was a pretty solid version of the standard secret baby troupe. I would happily read something else by the author.

If you liked Done & Dusted, you’ll definitely enjoy Back in the Saddle. It reads very much the same, but with some key differences and characters. This book follows Maddie and Parker and their journey to work through a past misunderstanding that caused the two of them to resent each other and unwittingly put an abrupt end to their relationship. Following this event, Maddie, sad and heartbroken, leaves her small town for the big city to start a new life and to give birth! But when Maddie moves back to her hometown and runs into Parker after a long time apart, neither of them can stop long burning urge to be in each other’s arms once more.

This story is quite good. It has a good storyline and good characters and there certainly is a story there!!! The length of this story is just fine for all it has covered in it. But this story is also a really emotional one, it at least opened up my waterworks quite repeatedly... So this one plays on all the emotional spectrum, the good to the bad to the sad and to the happy. As I received an ARC and the author informed us about possible typos that was good to know it was in the final editing phase as I found a few typos which I am sure the editor will find but I am not marking the story down for it as I usually do as I was informed about them beforehand! And am giving this one the fabulous four stars and cannot wait for the next story in this new series.

Maddison and Parker were in a loving relationship until someone fabricated a story to cause them to separate. This tale caused them to lose out on more than years of being together. Now their both back living in their hometown.
When Parker decides to go to a bar one night, he sees her working and is determined to find answers as to what happened. Maddison becomes nervous and upset after seeing him. Things became chaotic that night, and they were unable to talk. This did not stop Parker from getting the answers he needed.
So, he went back to see her one day at work, and she agreed to meet up with him. Parker then becomes furious after what he discovers.
This story was engaging and showed the bond between brothers. It was good to see how supportive they were to one another.

Disappointing
I have only read the author once or twice. Loved the Brooks brothers, Maddy and Tyler. Even loved the twists and turns of family dynamics, challenges and redemption. However, this story felt like there were glaring topics just avoided all together. Its was disappointing and weird that I had to read to 40% mark before it was clear she was African American...I think? It's amazing that you get all these descriptive deets about Parker and only "curves and her thick hair" about Maddy until I eventually read she has brown skin. Some possible racism not even mentioned at all? Maddy just easily agreeing to shacking and son's name change before a real commitment to her after all she's been through...literally until the last few sentences??? Maybe this is why I haven't searched out more books by this author. This was kind of offensive.

I’m a sucker for second chance romances, add in sexy a cowboy and I’m hooked. Maddison (Maddy) moves back home to her small town after being away for years. What she wasn’t expecting was running in to her old flame Parker. Parker is looking for answers on why she left and he’s determined to find out. When misunderstandings are righted, I loved how Parker is devoted to making up for lost time. The closeness that Parker has with his brother’s Carson and Wade is heartwarming. I loved Maddy and Parker’s story, it’s filled with sweetness, emotion, laughter, romance, steamy scenes, and love.

This is a sweet second chance/secret baby /cowboy romance.
This is my first book by Peyton Banks and I don't think it will be my last. There was a mild continuity issue at the beginning that was an easy to overlook but I still loved it.
It was a soft read, not the high anxiety ridden reads I have been into lately with secret baby books.
I love the build and growth of all characters and just feel like this is a good read for a night wrapped up in a chair relaxing with some wine.
It keeps you engaged and reading but with soft loving hands.

Back in the Saddle is the story of teen sweethearts Maddy and Parker. Unfortunately, their story was cut way too short and they are separated by distance and time. Years later, both Maddy and Parker find themselves back in their hometown. With an accidental meeting in a bar, they are presented with an unexpected chance to re-visit the past. Though they have lots of unresolved issues to address, the chemistry between Maddy and Parker is hot. It sucks the reader into their drama. Several times I found myself tearing up during this book. I have been a fan of Peyton Banks for a while now and this book has been such a joy to read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Second chance?
Back in the Saddle is the first book in the Blazing Eagle Ranch series and it introduces the reader to the ranch and it's inhabitants, the Brooks brothers. It is also the story of Parker Brooks and Madison (Maddy) King. They have a history and something else between them that is about to all come out in the present when he comes back to the ranch after an injury takes him off the rodeo circuit and crosses paths with Maddy.
This was an enjoyable story and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Decent read
I enjoyed this book book. Maddy and Parker are together for a few months before something tears them apart. She moves away and he chases his dream of being a bull rider. Years later they are both back in their hometown. Of course its a small town so they see each other and the chemistry is still there. I like that when they did talk they handled their issue quickly instead of tip toeing around it. The part I didn't like was there was no real description of Maddy. There was plenty of times to describe what she looked like but for some reason the author waited until about 40% into the book to say she had brown skin.

I listened to this as an audiobook and I really enjoyed the narrators. It was a fun sweet easy listen.
If you like small town, cowboy romances add this to your list.
The FMC has just moved back into town because she needs help looking after her son whilst she finishes her degree - her mom lives there so can babysit.
Only issue is her sons father is also back in town after his bull riding career has come to and end.
They rekindle - after a few awkward meetings - and work out what went wrong….
There’s a few surprises thrown in which kept me hooked and I liked both main characters.
